  • This SBB Ce 6/8III ”Krokodil” (Märklin 39561) was produced in 2002. It has a ”C-Sinus” motor which provides very good performance, however, the decoder has no sound functions. The decoder is integrated with the motor. Therefore, the Krokodil cannot be upgraded with a new decoder without changing the motor also.
The SBB car set (Märklin 43369) consists of a baggage car and four passenger cars. An ESU ”LokSound 5 Fx” function decoder and its speaker was installed in the baggage car, as well as a relay to enable the pre-installed car LED lights to be switched on/off controlled via the decoder. Two red LED´s were added on the last car, as ”zugschlusssignale”, of course with a capacitor for flicker free appearance. The ESU sound project for a Krokodil was installed using the ESU LokProgrammer. The decoder in the Krokodil can only speak the Märklin Motorola protocol, and not DCC. Therefore, the decoder in the baggage car also needs Märklin Motorola to be enabled. Both decoders are using the same address. By standard, Märklin Motorola only provides four functions (F1-F4) in addition to engine lights on/off. With the LokProgrammer, it is easy to add up to three additional addresses connected to the LokSound decoder, i.e. 4 x 4 functions (F1-F16) can be used.
Once installed, the LokSound decoder emulates the sound of the Krokodil motor at different speed levels. Of course, some passengers had to be installed, as they wanted to join the first ride!
