I too prefer the right side for most (about 83%) graphics. I feel like even when things are more detailed on the left, they either don't read so well (regular bats), or loose a lot of their personality (most enemies). I'm sure some of this is nostalgia talking, but I think those points are still true. But definitely some wins. And huge appreciation for the effort that went into it! Even in newer 3d games (started noticing around 2005ish, I feel a lot of detail goes into the models, and I just don't appriciate what's going on with their models until well after i'm done playing the game and looking at some stills of a monster (like in a wiki). I'd be wowed with having the clarity of the still image, but seeing them within the context of the action game, they just didn't deliver the same impact.
Prefer SD. It's more consistent and resembles Castlevania Chronicles. The HD has the higher potential but it's not realized in many aspects. Don't care about music when judging these either. I can easily insert my own favorite remixes as replacements.
By the "second one" you mean the one to the right? I also prefer that version, because it's like the original, just recolored. I always felt the original NES colors were somewhat off. So you had that on your phone? All 3 parts of it, or just the first one (stages 1-6)? If you have some time, could you please reply to my email kya199 at yandex.ru? Thanks!

On the one hand, I like the character sprite for Simon in HD, the parallax scrolling in Stage 11 was also a nice touch. The SD version has a better color palette and nice updates on the classic bosses. The music? Some of it is decent, others are a miss.
Even the right (sd) has been doctored up a little. I’ve played #1 so much I can go through the game in 1 or 2 lives (barring the bats in the clock tower stretch & not on easy mode - no knock-back when you get hit ) if you’re going to compare it to the og - use the actual nes version.
I prefer the Golbat looking boss in the first stage. Also, i prefer the SD version because it uses brighter palettes, which is more accurate to how CV1 looked.
No, it's not the only one, but it is the most advanced, because its author is working actively to improve it, in conjunction with HD pack developers. There's no such emulator for Genesis, but is it needed? I think Genesis graphics is good enough on its own. As for the sound replacement, it recently became available. Google for MD+ to find out more. Except NES, there exist graphics replacement emulators for a Sega Master System, and for a Gameboy, according to this wiki article: emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Texture_Packs
@@kya6568 Cool, thanks! And yeah, I'd love an emulator that can do HD graphics on the Genesis just to get HD versions of my own games. I'm working on my own version of the Oregon Trail in BasiEgaXorz (BASIC) to start. The version I'm porting is only 750 lines of code, but I'm adding art and music to it. I'd like to be able to offer an HD version of that and any future games because I'm painting Bob Ross styled landscapes on little 5x7 canvases to use in the game, scanning them, and editing for the Genesis' resolution and palette in Photoshop. I'm programming the music for the Genesis' soundchip, but I also have real folk instruments in my studio that I'd like to use to record an HD soundtrack. If it was as easy as loading an HD pack on an emulator, I could expand my games' appeal beyond retro gamers like myself without having to reprogram it for another platform like Watermelon had to do with Pier Solar.
Pretty tired of "HD" remakes meaning they either added so much bloom and lighting that it drowns the game out, or made it so dark you can't see shit. One on the right is clearly superior. Thanks for the upload. Awesome side by side. Oh god I just saw the 2nd form Dracula on the left and I laughed so damn hard.
Both tilesets are by Konami. I agree they screwed up the HD tileset. As for Dracula's second form, he's actually somewhat better in the original java game. I had to procrastinate him into the available sprite space.
@@kya6568 Well, if you do return to the 16-bit style, I was thinking how Hansungkee's Simon Sprites would look in 16-bit and animated. And if you tried out the "improved controls" mod: www.romhacking.net/hacks/3867/

Something a bit wonky here. He gets boomerang and has triple shot? Eh.. NO! He's have to use his boomerang on the candles several times going up and doen stairs to reset the candles for double shot then triple to finally drop. Critters look easier. I noticed no knockback getting hit. Graphics are ok for the most part except a few things like draculas 2nd form. Music... meh yuck. Sounds seemed good. Neither is the best it could be but ok. I think the no knockback and retaining triple shot and easier mobs cheapens the experience.
Да, строго говоря, это не Castlevania, а Akumajou Dracula переизданная в 1993 году для Famicom на картридже с добавлением Easy Mode. Но фишка от этого не меняется: игровой движок - оригинальный, графика - подменная.
That depends on a background :) My acquaintance with Castlevania series began on a MSX computer, and ever since I felt the NES version is inferior in graphics. The first stage garden is especially lackluster when compared to MSX. And if you are a 8 years old noob, you'll be seeing the first stage a lot :)

SD (right side) is my favorite one. One thing that bothers me is that there’s no “All Clear” music after Dracula’s dead and Simon picks up the orb.

The music is terrible

I mean can you play the SD hack on Android
On a powerful device - yes, you can, using Retroarch for Android. But I personally never tried it.
I'm in the minority here, but I actually prefer HD over SD. It has that weird campy feel to it that I think only Haunted Castle had.
graxia bro
I like old version 😅🌹 just original
Simon looks really dumb in the HD side. Like he's doing some cartoonish angry walk from a 60's warner bros. cartoon mumbling "why I oughta...."
Can we play this on a Android emulator
Yes you can, if you have a modern device. Google for Retroarch Android Mesen.
SD looks and sounds better 😂
I feel like the HD version takes all the charm out of the enemy designs, also I hate whatever update they did to the music.
Personally I agree, but download statistics show that HD pack is twice as popular as SD. So it was worth making it after all :)
