nice to see this retro audience people wanting to make their own remakes given a lot of companies won't. Newer doesn't always equal better, well except maybe super mario bros lol
I welcome the criticism of HD packs, even if it's wholesale from sourpusses who will never like the idea, because it encourages the folks doing these things to focus on quality and faithfulness to the game. Let's be real: Most of the packs seem to have that as a goal, but there are plenty that just go bonkers. Anything that helps keep the balance more in the "quality" category is overall a good thing.
Hey Game Fan! Super awesome video, and it will definitely be helpful in the future! I was wondering if you might be able to make a video about how you would make a music pack? I've been trying to figure it out but it seems very above my head, haha. Thanks!
I know how it works in theory... But in practice, it's actually a bit above my skill level as well. For packs I've worked on, some talented programmers have been kind enough to lend a hand and do that portion for me. If I ever succeed in pulling it off myself, I may make a tutorial to share the knowledge.
awesooomeee!!! is it possible to replace sprites but not based on tiles i mean. surpasing the 8x8 sprite limit?? in this example you replace each "tile" to build the frames. of course sprite first tile on screen condition should still be there. but mybe as empty??.
For the most part, it is currently not possible to replace graphics beyond existing game tiles. There are sometimes ways to get around this. For example, the ROM was hacked in the Metroid pack to overcome some issues in this area with the walking animation. In addition, you can sometimes use a full screen replacement strategy (discussed here: ruclips.net/video/ADJ_DnSSGv0/видео.html) that doesn't rely on existing tiles/sprites at all. However, that approach is usually only an option when things are static on a screen - like a HUD or a title screen. In other words, it wouldn't really work well for main character replacement. So in short, unless you do some really fancy stuff - 9 times out of 10, you will probably be limited by the size of existing graphic tiles and sprites.
Yes, you can hit "ctrl+m" to open the memory viewer. Then, it's kind of trial and error. You make things happen on the screen and look for changed values. The x values on the left plus the y values on top make up the address of any given number on the table.
@baconlover5624 The walking frame approach requires the use of an enhancement pack specific to the Mesen emulator. Unfortunately, a .ips patch will not work for this all by itself.
Your videos have been great, I've learned a ton, but, all I really want to do is put Holy Diver by Dio in Holy Diver the NES game. Obviously I don't know what the best order of learning stuff is and I hate to tell you what videos you should work on, but if it makes no difference to you I'd really appreciate an audio video. I do not care, even a little bit, whose feelings are hurt by getting rid of the beeps and replacing them with Dio. Screw those guys.
Thanks for the kind words. When it comes to audio, it seems like you are looking for a video that explains how to substitute sound for a pack that hasn't already been created yet (I do have a couple of videos that show how to swap out .ogg sound files for Zelda and Metroid). I must admit that I received a great deal of help in the sound department when it comes to packs I've worked on. With my current skill level, I'm not able to create sound replacement for a brand new pack from the ground up at this time. If I do figure it out, I may look into a dedicated video on that topic.

We are retro gamers!! Watch us will this stuff into existence!!!!
This is super cool! Thank you for doing this! :-)
Happy to help the community whenever I can :)

Mario with 12 walking frames is such a blursed thing, I love it 🤣
Your videos are hilarious and super helpful all at once. So glad I found your channel!
11:22 the game uses 8 x 16 mode, It's an option any nes game can use when in development
I would love to try this on 1943, to make the Propeller Spinning Illusion on the Planes, and not look static like in the original
So retro

What happened you audio triple you voice 😳
Amazing !
Hi I have a memory check question is there another way to see the address other than the website

Possible to save this to rom without using MESEN? To use on console..
Unfortunately, this is exclusive to the Mesen emulator at this time.
@@NESGameFan Amazing!!!

Ugh, I wish someone had a tutorial for audio.
can you give me the nes walking frames smb rom please
The video description does have a link to the enhancement packs shown in the video. However, I'm unable to share actual ROMs for legal reasons.
@@NESGameFan are you able to share a ips patch?

Hmmmm. Are you able to rename the rom to a text file
Can any one tiny toon adventure game remake
I'm sure someone could. Most of the basic principles in the video should carry over.
