The biggest thing I appreciate about The Woman King (2022) is the authenticity of the accents. I am Nigerian, 39. My whole life, I have seen crappy African accents from Americans. I'm like, there are Africans in every American city. Could they not consult them. I am also sure there are plenty professionals in that field. This movie not only successfully made Americans and English actors speak like real Africans, they hired, Nigerians and other actors of African descent who have African speaking people in their family. Not just the language, but the look.
Africans have a very specific look, and the way we move our faces. Lashana Lynch was the mvp in my opinion of this. If I did not know her, I would have thought she was Nigerian. She is of Jamaican descent. This movie nailed the accents and behaviors as much as any Hollywood movie has ever done.

I like how everybody is pointing out slavery in the comments like that wasn't the entire point of this movie LMFAO No shit they took slaves, they literally show them taking slaves IN THE MOVIE and forcing them to be Agojie. Naniska's whole argument with the King throughout the movie was it was time to stop selling their own people. The Oyo were literally selling other Africans at the market. People in the comments pointing that out like it wasn't a driving force throughout the movie lmao

you clearly didn't watch the movie and only listen to stupid republicans who hate facts. they CLEARLY stated in the movie that they capture OTHER people not from their tribe (because Africa is a continent NOT a country) and sold them to the white man because if they didn't the white man would capture and sell them. they also fought the white settlers but don't have the same amount of resources so this is their ONLY option to protect their people. wtf, they literally said this in the movie. and fyi stuff like this has happened throughout history in every country all over the world. you threaten someone that i won't kill your family if you give you another family and if you don't have the means to protect your family without giving up someone else then you do what you go to do because even if you say no they are still going to kill people. africans didn't just willing say okay take our people. they fought but were out matched so this was SOME tribes way of protecting their own. story trying to paint a false narrative. you really think the savage white man came to the continent of africa and said "hey we are taking your people" then the africans said "no get out of here" and you really think the savage white was gonna be like "okay i guess we'll just leave now?" no they were not going to leave no matter what. so stop trying to blame people for shit someone else introduced to them. they didn't travel to europe on a boat full of enslaved africans and said here give us money in exchanged for people. so stop the republican lies.

I understand artistic liberties, but if you want to depict an all female elite military unit you either take a historical unit and stick to facts or go all the way and invent it. In all the movie there is not a single second of serius training or tecniques taught that would make these girls better than any soldier, and the only time in wich they are compared to male fighters is in a POINTLESS trial (you are the best at having a spear shoved in the shoulder, now what?). And having watched the movie the last bit in wich she expresses her desire to be in the unit is questionable at best since she didn't even went there willingly. The movie kept the supposedly best parts without the unconfortable thruts, wich would have made it beliavable, and didn't invent anything to make it at least cool/entertaining. How am I supposed to believe that running a bit, knowing how to tie a rope, and being able to barely wrestle a teen girl makes ANYONE, regardless of gender, a good fighter let alone an elite one?

This film is such an inaccurate farce that they even fall prey to that old lie that swords are super heavy. I literally laughed out loud when she almost dropped the sword as if it were a block of solid lead when in reality, most 1handed swords weigh somewhere around 1.5 to 2.5 pounds. When they can't even get that right, it's no wonder that they portray women as being super warriors even though history and basic logic prove this to be laughable.
