This version sounds better than the album version. I love both live and album version. Im a huge Beck fan have been since the 90s. Morning Phase is a masterpiece. I was happy to see him win the grammy for Album of the year. He deserved it.
Don't you just love it when singers sound exactly like their albums?? lol it's sad that with today's musicians i expect less than what is produced in the studio when i hear their live performances! I will always love beck because he sings with the same caliber as he does when in the studio!
Beautiful. Love everything he's ever done from the very beginning of his career. Every twist and turn, every niche he's explored - from his weird, hilarious, SoCal white boy rapping and lyrical alphabet soup to his eclectic experimentation with folk, funk, soul, hip hop, electronic, alternative rock, country, and psychedelia. Finally got to see him live a few years ago with Cage the Elephant and Spoon opening. Incredible, epic show. On a related note, that's Father John Misty in the back on tambourine. I adore him too. Hate it when old people say all of today's music sucks. They have no idea.
Janice Rael "Mutations" is also similar, as well, just not as grand... then really stretch and listen to "One Foot In The Grave"... that is if you haven't fallen in love with "Odelay", "Guero", "The Information", "Midnite Vultures", or "Mellow Gold" yet!! "Modern Guilt" was great as an acoustic album (released on Beck's website a while back)... "Stereopathetic Soul Manure" is only really for die hard fans... but get his whole catalogue... he is the man!!
cybersphere Well, idk...I've always been torn on Sea Change, since it's release. Wasn't the album the next after Midnite Vultures? If anything it was a shock, if you follow me. After hearing him pour out his soul on that album, things were kind of never the same for me on how I viewed him. Needless to say, Sea Change could simply be labeled as a "break up" album. I'm still not sure if I completely recommend it for someone going through a break up lol. Like every album, it's incredibly powerful, but in a way no one was expecting at all. For me, his latest win shows that people have grown. I haven't heard this whole album, but what I have heard so extremely resembles Sea Change, that I'd recommend it if someone digs this. Every album is great in its own way.^^
I am so elated to JUST have found this whole album I love as living out of country when it came out years back! It’s like finding an old friend smiles to share 🤩😎❤
what an amazing bunch of musicians etc.....I don't know much - but 'morning phase' can't be an easy album to do live but this sounds awesome...pure gold XXX
Waking light, it grew from the shadow Brace yourself to the morning low Night is gone, long way turning You've waited long enough to know When the memory leaves you Somewhere you can't make it home When the morning comes to meet you Lay me down in waking light No one sees you here, roots are all covered There's such a life to go and how much can you show? Day is gone on a landslide of rhythm It's in your lamplight burning low When the memory leaves you Somewhere you can't make it home When the morning comes to meet you Rest your eyes in waking light When the memory leaves you Somewhere you can't make it home When the morning comes to meet you Open your eyes with waking light
Great performance.... He's a much better singer than i think he gets credit for. And he's got the best backup singer in the biz, Roger Manning from one of my favorite bands ever, Jellyfish. That man is a one man backup band. A decent lead singer, too. And to pull off this kind of performance with that much echo and dynamics, is actually very difficult not only on a performance level, but on technical level. Of course, he's Beck... He probably gets to sound check all day if he wants. But this so very true to the record and that is no small feat.
***** You do realize that by saying things like these you act exactly like him? Since when are there objective criteria by which you can judge a person´s talent? By the words of Big Lebowski: "That´s just like your opinion, man.". To the video itself - fucking wonderful, I really like where Beck´s music is going.
From the Beck Hansen we already knew and loved emerges a "new" artist whose work indicates an angel among us. I almost don't believe the transition! But, one thing is for sure, I'm loving it....
What a great job live - solid performance as if it was in the studio. That is first class musicianship. The other song from this broadcast was the same performance level.
I'm in the back seat in back of the balcony for the Santa Barbara show and I am so happy:-) I was only able to get single seats so me and my girlfriend are in different rows but my seat is directly in back of hers. I'll give her back rubs just like I do every night only this time Beck will be right in front of us. Can't wait:-) btw... I've never had sad music make me so happy. Can anyone explain to me why? I can't figure it out....
I have pondered this since blue moon....why does this music not make me cry ? I think its because somewhere inside it there is HOPE !! well that is my brief but true explanation.!! It is achingly beautiful and there is nothing else like it !! love and light to you XX
feonixo I do, in 5.1 DVD-Audio all the time. I have over 100 high resolution discs and Sea Change is my favorite, not only for content but for sound also. Nothing else like it. Just beautiful...
Morning Phase is MASTERPIECE!
+Scott A Amen!
agreed, still amazing. I actually think it's better than Sea Change
Agreed. Better than Sea Change
the grammys acerted
I love every song on that album.

it’s one of the best albums of all time in my humble opinion

I saw him live in Virginia. You are spot on. His voice is the same live. Beck is so talented and smart.
It's such a complete album, you have to hear the whole thing through in order to appreciate one song.
True that.
+FoNaNaFiFo nice profile pic mate
Fo sho...I have the vinyl.
wow! just wow, beck. ty

I really hope he notches the grammy album of the year on Sunday. He is due for recognition...
Did it xD
yay! =)
Who are you?
+Bufford Ang Oh you're so right. The Grammys are important. They're very credible. Sure they ignored the Beatles and Zeppelin. So what?
he wins album of the year
This performance kicked the studio version's ass big time. A true gem.
That guy never disappoints, a true artist.
I'm still in love with this album. Still in love with Beck!❤
i got his album and i have listened to it at least 10 times this past 2 weeks. So beautiful.
Amazing performance - the album is such a classic
Is that Josh Tillman on back ups, wearing the scarf and hat?
It is. There’s other videos where you can clearly tell it’s him.
I never heared of him before but listining to this song in i tunes made me buy the whole album!! Worth it😘;)

Janice Rael recommended to all! lol
You can not go wrong with Beck.
Janice Rael Sea Change is one of my favourite albums of all time and nobody I know has heard of it.

Now I'm convinced that Beck deserve that Grammy for AOTY
I am in love with this song ❤️
This group needs to form a permanent band, because this was surreal.
Jonathan Conard Definitely his best lineup
Father John Misty and Beck together ❤ YES! I've died and gone to heaven!!!
what an amazing bunch of musicians etc.....I don't know much - but 'morning phase' can't be an easy album to do live but this sounds awesome...pure gold XXX

this song seems to be taken out of the 70 with that music high level quality. it sounds and feels right

+Dennis Alvey Is he the guy with the beard singing behind Beck in this video?
+Matthew Romano
Roger Manning? He's the keyboard player... Awesome talent
+Dennis Alvey Yeah Beck has those signature backup vocals that are so key to his overall sound. But I wonder who the bearded dude is.
+Matthew Romano that's Father John Misty
I agree. 100%. It's really hard to understand how well he pulled this off.
One of my favorite songs of all time, great performance. Artistry.
Great thanks to RUclips for the magnificent record of beautiful Beck performance!
They making New Classics
Beck has something in his music for everyone, familiar but different, glock to soaring guitar, awesome
Pure class.
here in Paris, France
Beck is an artist like Gainsbourg was.
K/West makes people laugh here...like a clown
That's everywhere except Kanyes house
Great, great, great song. Especially the guitar sound from 2:32 and on is amazing. Can't stop hearing it over and over.
Absolute perfection...
i just love the small riff starting at 3:00... so effin much. the whole album is gold I say
His best album
アルバム『MORNING PHASE』はBECKの復活ののろしとなる素晴らしい作品だった。その中でもこの「WAKING LIGHT」はハイライトとなる名曲だ。ライブの映像が観られて幸せだ。
Fan for.......many years. Many. Thank you
No one out there can hold a candle to him................Since the Beatles they was a group....Beck is Beck a man by himself.
beck has really beautiful & clear voice❤
Kanye West is wrong. Beck is a true artist
***** thats also wrong
***** Untrue, kanye is very talented as well
Kanyes' biggest talent is self defecation.
***** You do realize that by saying things like these you act exactly like him? Since when are there objective criteria by which you can judge a person´s talent? By the words of Big Lebowski: "That´s just like your opinion, man.".
To the video itself - fucking wonderful, I really like where Beck´s music is going.
***** Well you clearly do care enough to advise me on how to spend my free time. Thank you, btw.!
Best song on the album but they are all so good. I'm not even a huge Beck fan but this is a masterpiece.
Please come to England and perform! Bristol would be amazing!
This sounds incredibly well live.
simply gorgeous... makes my heart ache
No one else quite like Beck. Beautiful!
Beck - The man, The Legend!
From the Beck Hansen we already knew and loved emerges a "new" artist whose work indicates an angel among us. I almost don't believe the transition! But, one thing is for sure, I'm loving it....
Amazing song. Brought tears to my eyes. Sea Change 2.... I've needed you. Thanks Beck.
LOVE Beck to bits, always!
Absolutely amazing
What a great job live - solid performance as if it was in the studio. That is first class musicianship. The other song from this broadcast was the same performance level.

Amen my friend. I did this at MGMT show in Boston. BE well, from Barb-Eric Shelburne Falls.
Listen to Sea Change... you will ponder this even more!
feonixo I do, in 5.1 DVD-Audio all the time. I have over 100 high resolution discs and Sea Change is my favorite, not only for content but for sound also. Nothing else like it. Just beautiful...
Atmosphere/Space, tones, and melody, congealed with poetry.
90s sound baby beck can do no wrong.
Beck is a genius. Seriously.

You are right you know.. there is no other artist who can do what he does.
A UK tour would genuinely make my life. No doubt
I think not only UK, Beck can also go to another part of Europe :P
Always beautiful.
Awesome performance. Again if you haven't pick up "Morning Phase", go get it now. Wonderful album. One of the best albums of the year.
This is Gorgeousness and Gorgeosity made Flesh.
Amazingly good. Brilliant album too
This album restored my faith in real music. You can keep that mass produced shite nowadays.
This is beautiful
He has the young Bob Dylan for bassist... good move Beck!
Stunning
This is brilliant ...... similar in so many ways to the music of The Moody Blues with Justin Hayward!!
Agree totally. I feel a combination of Moody Blues and Pink Floyd (Endless River).
PinkFloyd influence on your own style...Love It!!.. You are awesome Beck!!...Mhuah!
Tickets for his Santa Barbara concert go on sale this Friday morning!
Great Song, great album.👍😎
beautiful song
Oh God that guitar at 3:04. I'm in love.

Father John Misty as a back-up singer?
To be fair not many people would've complimented Becks voice
