An album shouldn't be just be just a disc full of trivial hits. An album should be a concept gracefully fabricated with lyrical motif, and an overall sonic theme,Listening to this album elicited so many emotions and I congratulate Beck on his much deserved win. I listened to all the other albums under that category and they didn't compare (just my opinion). I can't imagine the meticulous amount of work Beck put into this album from lyrics to production. Congrats Beck!!

yeah I know, I have a background in sound engineering/recording and reinforcement. Pro Tools ect and plug-ins (not a debate on analog/digi lol) has made it possible for MANY people to create without the expense of a studio one would have found someone likeTommy Dowd in 30 years ago..

Beck's mourning phase transformed into a (new) morning phase. Just wonderful stuff from the soul of this man.
I had two tickets to see him in Nashville on this tour. The night before I was to head down to Nashville I listened to this over and over. I cried to it all night...that morning my mom called and told me my grandfather had passed away during that night.
I missed the show and lost an important human in my life.
That is why this song cuts so deep to me..

man, Beck has definitely done it with this one... my breathing just falls in time, i can see the images painted by the lyrics... my heart feels this... it tugs at my soul. it is rare i feel this way about an album... there are a few precious gems, this one included.

yes, when i heard 'Sea Change' i truly thought that was going to be that one special masterpiece of his career... i was wrong... they are both affect me mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and yes, even physically.

Sea Change was such an impact on my life, when I discovered that album I listened to it constantly. At the time i was going though major depression and had psychological issues which took a while to get past. I guess i identified with the emotion of that album, even though its a sad one, in a way it helped me through.
Now Im glad to say life has got better for me, I've got past that time of my life and listening to this track, it makes me feel good about the future. You could say If Sea Change was the soundtrack to my depression, I guess Morning Phase maybe the soundtrack to the next chapter of my life.
Can not wait to hear the whole album! Pre-Ordered the vinyl yesterday!

The outro is my favorite part. The wow wow part. It sounds like an angel using it's horn. Beck is such an underated guitarist. People always point to ""loser"" but that was made very early in their career and their music has evolved so much since then. I've been a fan since I was 12.

I know, but actually it helped in a way. People who never would've listened to Beck before are flocking in droves to listen to him now. They get to find out what you and many others have known for years. That's the good that's coming out of all of this.

Oh yeah goose bumps, tears, and introspection on many occasions with many different Beck songs. I'm not sure I've experienced the same extent from another artist. Truly a gifted artist!
Not sure what the world has come to when we thank someone like Kanye for helping to discover Beck's music. Really just goes to show how so much attention to mainstream radio and celebs blinds us.

It never fails...everytime I listen to this song, my heart swells and I start to weep, makes me feel as if my *soul* grows larger when I listen to it. I love Beck, and virtually everything he does (with the exception of one or two that make my ears bleed lol). He is my very favorite.

Never has there been such an incredible finale to THE perfect album. And some kind of magic occurs at 3:40.
It's a sequence in G the last 3 tracks, similar to Pink Floyds Mother and Goodbye Blue Sky, the ending track closes in G minor on a melancholy note, giving you the meaning of the album in the closing piece. Grief. Probably one of the best song sequences I've ever heard recently, nobody comes close to this in modern music.

Beck is a beast. A force of nature. I literally(literally) get goosebumps from this album. This is the same guy that does "Where it's At" and "Wow". After I lost Bowie and Prince, Beck is all I have left.
21 days more...when I heard Blue Moon I instantly fell in love with this album, and this is another great song. Love Beck and I want a "sequel" to Mellow Gold, still listening to it and still one of the best albums I've heard.

Epic finish to a stunning album! Love the George Harrison-style guitar solo at the end. The wait has been so worth it :D
The last three songs a song cycle in G with this in G minor to end with a touch of sadness that completes the cycle, it's one of the best cycles ever committed to recording, Pink Floyd sort of did this with Mother and Goodbye bluesky, real melancholy and beauty.
Listened to Beck since the beginning and it makes me so happy to see him resurface again and to watch and listen as to how his music evolves.
Been listening to this album for like 1.5 years since i discovered it. Such pure gold, i just can't get enough of it!

This is still considered rock and personally I think beck is an amazing producer I think I'm becoming a fan.
This man is so great! Unique and truly musician with a big heart! This man is out of fucking sell-out establisment, he was made himself. This song is so atmospheric. It's like you're living somewhere in the snowy mountains and breathing cold air inside your lungs. One of the early mornings you've realise, that human problems aren't concerning you anymore, you are flowing away from here in the stream of light into the beautiful place where is no pain and sorrow. Thank you, Beck for such a sincere album. Beck is like modern Dylan, but cooler.

Cosmic; Spiritual; Introspective; Proprioceptive; Out of time and space; a gaze into what's coming in the afterlife, wether it's just a light dance while the final disconnection or a leap into the unknown... it inspires peace, confort, makes me feel I could just disapear, leave the existance, just... be nothing, vanish in the void and become part of the whole, and do it without fear
just a few songs have that power, this is what keeps me thinking we may be more than just beasts, this makes me believe we have a light inside, and it is worth it to shine with it even if it ends someday
Just returned from Beck's concert in Columbia, MD. Best show I've seen in years. They didn't play this song from what I can remember, but did play some others from the new album. Amazing how much the music has changed/matured over the decade. He's a music genius.

Anyone who listens to Waking Light and actually hears it couldn't question the position of this album in music history. Of course it's fine not to like it, but anyone who doesn't appreciate its abject beauty and little intricacies, or feel the drive and commitment behind it just doesn't understand music. It makes me feel lucky that I can.

i was one of those people who didn't give this spectacular work of art a chance. Everything about is ingenious and thoughtful. every song is kind of the same sound, but that doesn't mean it wasn't masterfully crafted with the very best influences and ideas. i am head over heels now. Love it to death.
He's gotten more somber in his older age. It's not the raucous, blues infused electro-funk-rock he made with Odelay and E-pro. Glad to see him growing as an artist and taking his music in a new direction. Props to Mr. Beck.
Love this as the end of the album. It starts with "Morning", the rest of the songs can be interpreted as night, and once more back to the beginning of a new day. "Country Down" is the song before this one. Its always darkest before the dawn.
