“Hey boss im gonna be late for work, Green Day is in the subway”
🎸🥁✨
💯
Boss says bullshit. You get fired. Boss watches Tonight Show and sees you on the platform. Boss rehired you with promotion. Good times.
@kidfreejones do you also have adhd cause I also ran that situation through my head😂
Nobody believed them no doubt!!
Pretty sure there is a law that says you can't fire someone for not turning up when they are at an impromptu Green Day concert 🤣
I wonder if the 40 cameras give the stunt away 😂
and the security too😂
Literally
and the fact that they're setting up directly underneath Rockefeller Center.
Yeah somebody already posted the full concert days ago lol
These camera angles are doing a good job of making the crowd look a lot smaller than it was. The whole platform was packed.
I was a drummer in a Green Day cover band for a few years and tried hard to match Tre Cool. Impossible. Dude makes it look so easy when it really is the opposite. Bravo!
Def an underrated drummer!
one of the greatest, seen them live a couple times and he never stops drumming, must be very fit haha
FR
I’m a drummer too and I’ve tried to match Tré
It’s so hard but it gives me a lot of respect for him!
I once tried to learn Reject. Yeah, no. The guy is just an unreal drummer.
Wow you must be gay 🤣
I can't get over the percussion. It's so quick and complex and it sounds so crisp and true. Bass is so melodic and lead vocals sound sick. I love this band so much.
Bass club...
El bajo es demasiado hermoso.
Still making that simple drum kit kick so much ass, after 30 years!
Charlie Watts made a career with a very minimal drum kit.
skills > quality of drums kits
@@Visualhead_Spacer bud just said Tré's $4000 drum set is cheap lmao
@@ParadiseDB7 That's not Tré's drum kit. it's a rental. His has much bigger drums, and more of them.
@@Baribrotzer "after 30 years" bud he has not being using that small acoustic kit for 30 years lmao. Absolutely no common sense
Tre is a Classy punk. He calmly places the stick through the drum head upon completion and then presents it to the camera man as an example of his punk authority. Well done good sir
A damn good way to ensure no encore. Lol.
And is a damn beast on those drums XD
@@askapk Similarly, I saw him set his drum set on fire at Warped Tour back in 2000🤘
Nope. Fvking guy is 51. That’s just dumb spoiled behavior.
Punk? Maybe pop punk...
Pure, pure, pure joy. Thank you for this.
I know. Gave me happy tears.
I cried too!! Thanks for saying that. I really cried. For America. For what I love about my country. Thanks for saying that. @@howamilooking5952
Me too
The fact that almost everyone knew the lyrics to every song. Fills my heart with joy!
I remember being 8 years old the year was 1996 and my dad had the dookie tape in the c-10 and as a kid I would sing the whole album with him and never really knew at the time that I was such a fan. I'm 35 years old now and my dad passed away in 05. I'll always have green day close to me because of the memories with my dad. ❤
This song came out in 1994. 30 years ago. AND THE KIDS STILL KNOW THE WORDS. Warms my heart.
I love Tré's face, ha always looks like he just came straight from his other gig in a broadway play starring as Mrs Doubtfire
Lmaooo
So accurate 😂
how incredibly gratifying to play an impromptu concert and to have random people know your song well enough to sing along.
The definition of success.
If you think this isn't set up then I really don't know what to say to you 😂😂
@@Dreamer-3689nah mate I was there. People just ran over there when the commotion started. Even made some friends with people there afterwards. I'm sure there was some set up too but 75% of us just showed up randomly
@@Dreamer-3689what and all the crowd are actors?
@@Dreamer-3689yes, it's the same that happened in the New Year Eve show...all actors
If you were ever curious about the intersection of people who would stop to hear a Bad Company cover on the subway and people massively excited to hear Green Day... well, here you go.
🙋♂️
Yeah who could ever like both of those bands?
Oh wait, tons of people.
it's all rock and roll to me!
It’s obviously Jimmy Fallon. They just need to figure out who he’s with.
@@mattanderson7419 it was a good rendition!
I’m not gonna lie, this really touched my soul. Heard this song when I was 8. I’m 18, graduated from high school and off to music school. This song won a talent show for me, started a band, got me and that band into our dream music school, and finally it was the first song I ever learned, along with the album in its entirety. Thank you Green Day for making life meaningful for me. ❤❤❤
This music never ages!!! How much energy the drums give this song it’s amazing 😍😍
It's crazy just by watching everyone start to sing along after Jimmy present GreenDay and felt the pure joy over here! Wow, wish I could be there too❤
Felt the same.
Jimmy Fallon was rocking out! 😂 I was mesmerized. Green Day is new to me but I love them!
Yesss - we need more of this ❤
Who was the guy that kept the disguise on and was playing rhythm guitar?
Jason White who plays with them live and on tour
Pure joy on the faces of the people listening, dancing and singing! There's nothing better than that!
Jimmy really is the "more cow bell" of this situation on that tambourine 😂
I was actually surprised he's a more than competent singer.
More Tambourine
Anything that brings this reaction and joy from a NYC subway crowd is wonderful…
Tru dat! - it would be a pickpocketers all you can steal buffet!
i lost it when jimmy positioned the tambourine for tre HAHA
@ThatThatBack Me, too!! Hahaha 😂🤣🙌👏 I literally laughed out loud, and said, "Jimmy! The tambourine! Hahaha" 😂🤣
Watched this last night and it was probably the coolest thing I have seen on the TV in a while. Thanks to everyone for making everyone smile we all needed it. Way to rock Green Day.
I am not an expert in drumming and being 68 I dont know much about Green Day as they were popular when I was in my 40's raising a family and working non stop, but I can sat this: I find the beat the drummer gives to the music to be rather unique and complex, very beautiful drumming, and the song, the lead singer, the band, their energy, everything is really great
A lot of people our age wrote off Green Day in the early 90s as being overly-simplistic pop punk. But - trust me on this, bro - check out the full video version of their 2005 live concert movie "Bullet in a Bible", which is an absolutely HUGE stadium show that rivaled all of the great stadium shows from bands like The Who, Queen and Zeppelin. Obviously, it's still Green Day, but that live concert really opened my eyes to the fact that they're all great performers, songwriters and entertainers. They've earned their spot on the Rock and Roll Mt. Rushmore.
Seeing everyone else in the subway station immediately start singing along just healed my inner child, man that must’ve been awesome to be part of in person
LOVE how the entire crowd knows the words...guys in suits and overcoats rockin' like they were back in college. Very cool! Love this shit!!!
Don’t care how many cameras were around. Absolutely wonderful. You can’t fake wonderful!
I’ve been lucky to see Green Day a number of times over the years, but one of my favorite concerts remains a morning show appearance they made back in, eek, 2008(?) in Central Park. They took requests and when they were told to wrap it up, just one more song, they played their LONGEST song. It was a blast.
Which one? Homecoming or Jesus of Suburbia?
Man imagine just going about your day and then a wild Green Day appears! Those people are so lucky! And this song is timeless.
Lucky? Lol
Right??!! There's no substitute for music that just makes you feel good and lifts the spirits. THANKS GREEN DAY!
@@ecstanton 🤮
@@Savssmiles aw, come on...just smile. You can do it😊
@@ecstanton I smile and feel good when I listen to great music, not a sellout fake punk band like Green Day;)
They went from their ADULT selves to back to their ITS NOT A PHASE MOM selves.
Good Music is never fails to unite people! This was such a heartwarming moment seeing everyone stop in their tracks and start jamming! I guess I’m going to have to take the subway next time I’m in New York!
Everyone instantly started singing in sync, I love it.
No! N'Sync is a DIFFERENT Band!
Honestly they could really crush it as a Bad Company cover band. Jimmy never gets enough credit for how crazily talented he is, and as for Green Day? We already know they are brilliant!
facts
I love how Jason is the only one with his disguise still on😂
Haha, as always Jason White extremely shy. Whenever he can appear as little as possible on camera, he will.
Best musician in the band
That was Jimmy's Best Stunt! Arigato!
Drums, bass, vocals, crowd... Everything is so perfect about this performance
Billy Joe has aged like fine wine, loving the return to the Dookie era look
It's the best right?
With Hot Topic black nail polish such '90s Nostalgic commercial Punk 😄 POSERS! I've been singing in street punk bands since I was 15 I'm now 26 years old and in 2024 I put a self titled album out titled Slave To The Media
@@asablkofc oh shit dude, be careful not to cut yourself on all that edge.
I will also say he is a MUCH, MUCH better singer than he was when they actually recorded Basket Case. I loved Green Day songs but wasn't the biggest Billy Joe fan as a singer - but I actually love hearing him now.
@@asablkofc ah mate please tell us the rest of your gutter punk life story we’re absolutely gaggin to hear it
For a few short moments Green Day and Jimmy Fallon brought pure joy and happiness to people’s otherwise routine day. They all look so happy- that’s so awesome to see.
Green Day songs practically carried me the last 10k of my first marathon, so I'll be forever grateful 😂 ❤
im so happy for the people in the crowd. they look like they're having the time of their lives. right place right time.
(Good riddance)
40 cameras, a gibson guitar, a Martin guitar. Somewhat of a giveaway
A kind reminder of what music is really about...coming together as a community and rocking out 👻
I miss those days
@@aaronmurray7308 I feel you. Some day we’re gonna miss these days too. So it goes
This is Beautiful!i!i!
This is what a crowd full of LOVE feels like...
Much Love
Song holds up so well. So many great memories jamming to this
And for everybody there, their day was just a little bit better, and for that brief moment, everyone forgot their problems and made new friends. Thanks Jimmy and GD. Made me smile just watching on YT.
The more you watch this the better it gets. I'm 41 years old now and I grew up with green day and they got me through the hardest times of my life which included severe bullying as a teenager over my accent. There is so much joy on the faces of the people here, and I know that if I was randomly going to work and Green Day started play in the subway, I would lose my shit! These gentlemen aged so well too❤
Thank you Jimmy for posting this video today! I was just told that I have a non cancerous brain tumor which I did surgery for yesterday. This video has really brightened my day!
I hope you heal well!
Peace, love and good healing juju your way! ❤❤✌🏼❤❤

You guys know these comments are fake right? There's "I've got cancer" comments on every other video
Speedy recovery my friend
I love how once Green Day takes over, Jimmy just starts jamming out on the tamborine, hyping everyone up, and is just generally happy to be there
This is why Jimmy Fallon will always be one of my top late show hosts. Because he does shit like this. Dope!!
What is the world coming to, he's so fake and obnoxious

You're so rad slave to the media 🤡
@@seanyoyoboy Jimmy Fallon is so establishment last night was something I'm just an local independent music artist/punk vocalist I thought barley wouldn't show up at my show due to the snowstorm if there's a local punk show punks will come out of the woodwork to support the band or singer.

I would die to go to a free green day concert!! These are always so fun!
Effortless, class, drumming WOW. Legend, green day still rocks
Jimmy Fallon, you are amazing! You are a great singer, host, entertainer, comedian and person. To give us and all those people in the subway a surprise Green Day set was incredible. Green Day is one of the best bands, and have continued to give us great music/lyrics. Thank you all.

Love these subway surprises!!
Yeah, a real surprise
@😂SideshowCop
I like busking surprise....crowd seem happy👍
❤I like the way Mike looks, Tree is a master with his drums and BJ always has his naughty teenager face... so many songs and so many beautiful memories
This video got taken down for a while, and I think it's because Jimmy accidentally called the new album "Survivors" instead of Saviors", but it seems like they cleaned that part up
People are so lucky! Greenday like 😂 madness
I built the Gilman Street Project for my friend Tim Yohanon where Green Day started. Watching this brought tears to my eyes. I hope I meet you guys someday . Punks Not Dead!
I went to those shows! My brothers band the Winona Ryders played there too!
Jimmy, this is why you're one of the best of all time, you do things like this & even get in there & be a part of it personally. Keep it up, it's what makes you you.
I couldn't help but notice that Billy Joe wouldn't say the word "stoned." I'm just guessing, but NBC probably asked him not to say it.
he sings it like that most of the times, if not always
You think Billie gives a F
Naaah, he sang American Idiot explicitly.
He doesn't sing it anymore simply because he doesn't get stoned lol
How very punk rock.
Dookie was my first CD, got it with my first boom box, 7th grade Christmas. I'm now 43 and still listen to that album lmao
Just found this video, I laughed so hard about the costumes 😂. Love it, great guys
I was 35 when I got into Green Day. (I was considered old🤣) Now I’m 65 and still love their music.
Fool lol
Subway Busking has ALWAYS been my favorite bit on TTSSJF. thank you Jimmy!!!!
Greattt Jimmy Fallon I love you and Green Day still rocks !! I had been in NY in November 'm from Spain I I would love to see this surprise live 💜💜💜🎼🎼🎼🍾
I love this so much. You can just tell it made all of their days. :)
wow i didn't expect that almost of the crowd knows the lyrics im crying happy🥹
Their performance at the Grey Cup this Fall was amazing!
It was fantastic ❤🇨🇦
I thought it was a bit of a coup d'état to get them to play for sure.
No it was awful. So delusional 😅
@@CaptainsChannel58really? I would have preferred a Canadian band but it was still good
they're such a good live band. Saw them back in 2016. I also saw the Grey Cup recording and that looked awesome
So cool. Green day always will remain relevant and huge in music industry. Crazy how so many people come in and sing along. That’s the definition of success 🤘
nah, Green Day was the asshole of my generation
Relevant! Like Milli Vanilli! LOL
Lol
You were right when you said that having all different types of folks singing along to your song is the definition of success. My posse thought they were uncool, but if our shitty punk bands became famous and bros and business dudes and sorority girls were singing along our music we’d be stoked.
Love Green Day! Imagine all those peole young & old singing your song? Brilliant!
This is the first song that introduced me to Punk, when I was in junior high school around the 90s
Jon, while I don't know you, for as long as I can remember, I've known of you.
That's enough for me to recognize a truly great human being. Thank-you for your gift.
Love these busking sessions. Love seeing the reactions.
I walked the streets of broken dreams but I could never find these guys!!) Hangin' with Jimmy!
3:30 what year is it that someone's casually carrying one of those bad boys with them lol
Omg you right lol
😂
10 months late to the party.
But that didn't stop me from getting goosebumps when Billy started strumming and singing. 🤟 😭 👍
Green day are the best! They're why i started learning guitar.
As soon as Billie Joe starts singing, it's a dead giveaway ❤️ his voice is so easy to recognize. Jimmy Fallon on the other hand, was a shocker. Who'd have thought he could sing& be adorable which doing it? Not nearly as adorable as Billie Joe, though.if Jimmy ever quits doing his show he has a great future as a hype man & backup singer.
Look you having a good time Jimmys in the subways with greenday 😂.
Love what Jimmy does. He has the gift of music.
Ahh man this does bring me joy. I remember being so fascinated by the art on my parents’ Dookie CD as a kid, and of course who could forget how much the American Idiot singles DOMINATED the airwaves in the mid-2000’s. I’ll always have a soft spot for these rad dudes. And Billie’s aging very gracefully
When the drummer lets go ... fantastic 🥁
Agree 😁
Well done Jimmy, huge applause. Regards 💖
The beginning is hilarious
Billy looks the same after 20 years 😂
Guys got that subway rockin'! Way to go!😊
😊I want to be there, singing with the underground people on the railroad tracks. It's so tempting to reach, hey America should be so happy, let's sing and relieve the stress.❤😊

I’m so glad I saw them at the Hella Mega Tour in SF! They truly are amazing performers! Love Billy so much!
Oh my god.., its GREEN DAAAAYYYYY... #turn my phone off so the boss can't reach me 😂😂😂

I love the way this makes allot of random people happy.
This gave me so much happiness
I remember when this album first came out when I was in high school , such nostalgia …. They definitely have the longevity.
“Nobody knows it’s us” already a crowd of 200 lol😂
