I can't believe you talked about the Steven Universe fandom and didn't talk about the certain fans who declared Rebecca Sugar a Neo-Nazi because she dared to have her characters show compassion to the antagonists instead of obliterating them Dragon Ball Z style with extreme prejudice.
Something that often gets overlooked is that Steven has yet to actually forgive the Diamonds, no matter how much they've atoned. He doesn't have to forgive them, mind, but people assume that face turns mean instant forgiveness.
I never understood the people claiming she was racist sexist and a nazi when she’s JEWISH, married to Ian who is a black man and was also a main writer and storyborder for the show, and clearly is in no way anti lgbt. Going as far as getting cancelled for including a gay wedding. The amount of bullshit that fandom put them all through and still accuses them of is gross.
I’ve been a fan of Voltron since I watched reruns of the original 80s show in the 90s. I was taken aback when I heard about all the drama in the fandom over the new reboot. Voltron was one of my favorite franchises. Now it’s essentially dead. It’s celebrating its 40th anniversary and doing so quietly, likely because of the fandom.
Maybe watch japanise orginal voltron (Golion) cuz many people say that they new verison is so bad cuz it's not old school. Even of 84 version was also not really orginal product. And it did had many insane moments and plotholes. It's not a bad francise tho.
I remember when I was 10-11 I was into MLP during the peak of “cloppers” and gore shit. I came across so much gore and porn when I was just trying to draw my favorite pony💀 Same thing with MLP games, I ended up playing banned from equestria thinking it was a normal game but NOPE far from that

I was there...I was there for the height of the VLD craze and the thing that shocked me the most was the time I was at a con and a fanartist in artist alley had a bunch of different posters up including a sheith one and I heard some teens standing right in front of her booth ranting about how disgusting sheith was. I'd never seen people spread vitriol like that offline before. I liked the ship and wouldnt have thought anything of it being problematic if I'd never engaged with the fandom. There are lots of ships with a similar age gap out there (shiro is 24 at the beginning and 26 at the end, while keith is 18 at the beginning and 22 at the end bc of weird time-skip stuff).

When It comes to voltron Sheith was not orgnally that contoversional sience Keith was introduced as 18 yers old while Shiro was 25 and until like season 7 they realtionship and backstory wasn't clear. It was revealed that when Keith was 15 Shiro adopted him as a legal gurdian and treated him like a younger brother. So if this ship was made canon it would be controversional. I also think that the writers took too long to reveal that. They could show it in season 2 when Shiro went missing. And when it comes to Klance shippers, I think the only more toxic where Keith X Acxa shipper. Also know as Kacxa, cuz they where the most homophobic (not all but you know) They did take it too far, but many of them where also againt's blackmails. None of those ships where bad. Klance had good chemistry, Shiro and Keith cared abouth eachother, Keith and Axca where so alike. (I still think they are cousins tho. XD) None of this ships where bad. In some fanfics they could work. Just not necesearlly in canon. I shipped Allurance at first and I also think it's bad now, cuz the way the writters handled it was bad. I fell's like they did I out of spite, and no wonder that the real fans got mad too. Forsed representation will never work if the writers don't fell it.
I have never heard of anything in this show, but if there was a grooming or quasi-inces issue with one of the ships I am a hell of a lot more sympathetic to these fan nutjobs reacting to it with toxic or dangerous behavior. Obviously for all these people who cannot be "fanatics" while keeping it fun and in the proper perspective in their overall lives, they are by their very nature pretty broken people with serious problems. I would not be surprised if many are victims of pain or trauma trying to use fiction fandom to heal and not always succeeding in doing it in a healthy and helpful way without creating further problems. I have little doubt that grooming might strike some kind of nerve for a disproportionate amount of them.
