    People always freak out about Simpsons predicting 9/11, but they’re either born after 2001 or didn’t do historical research to find out that the twin towers were known to be threatened, like a lot, and they had been attacked before 2001. Though South Park didn’t always exactly predict something happening but that it was obviously coming, they still put more detail into the prediction more than the simpsons ever did. Because Simpsons is rather pg-13 and South Park is for older audiences, they could say a lot more with less censoring. South Park will always be better at predicting and honestly just a better show, the Simpsons is awesome but it gets alittle old, Simpsons is just nostalgia at this point.

    My dad used to host local dragshows when I was a kid in the 2010s,. They were always a lot more careful about things around me, even simple swearing, more so then any one else. Drag readings are in no way comparable to this in my opinion, people arent defending drag queens because theyre trying to act tolerant, theyre defending because theres inherently nothing wrong with a drag queen reading to kids. I respect your opinion, but I heavily disagree. Great video nonetheless, very well made, shame you have such a little sub count

    • @evacino2320
      @evacino2320 2 месяца назад +7

      Besides me personally agreeing with your take, I would also argue that this was the sentiment intended by the episode itself. After Mr. Garrison’s speech at [14:34], Randy follows it up by saying “He's right. Our boys didn't hate homosexuals, they just hated the way _this_ asshole was acting.”
      Considering this episode came out in 2002, perhaps a more apt example could have been made by using the prevalence of sexual elements within music videos at the time? There was an argument of objectification vs. reclamation; with the benefits of artists’ being able to freely express these elements within their music videos (in what was deemed contextually relevant, artistically inspired, progressive/empowering, etc.) being contrasted with the notion that some artist’s would present this in a more exploitative manner (in cases that people would deem as contextually irrelevant, artistically tactless, objectifying, etc.)
      (For the record, I do not believe my example using music videos was an intentional reading for this particular episode. This example is also intended to be comparatively ‘low stakes’ argument-wise (as in it’s more of a general art take rather than a debate on what should/shouldn’t be tolerated on TV). Rather, my intention was to put myself in the position of the editor of this video, and trying to consider what footage I could have personally used instead of the drag footage.)

      @@evacino2320 I dont have a single issue with the episode itself, especially since its more so saying exactly what randy says at the end. Its about the individual, not the entirety of a group. My only real issue was this guys takes on it being comparable to today. I understand his point, but it came across he was inserting personal bias heavily, when the episode itself arguably does the opposite of what hes saying. When the title is about "predictions" I cant help but cringe when its clearly a form of unfair bias, but everyone has a right to an opinion and maybe my interpretation was off aswell

    • @evacino2320

      @@Melkweg7 I completely agree with you there! That was the aspect of this video I was also feeling iffy about after watching, and I thought what you said in your OG comment perfectly conveyed how I felt about it too (i.e. being politely critical of that section and offering your perspective/feedback under the assumption that the video was well intentioned). I also genuinely thought your story about your dad was interesting!
      I think I was trying to cook too hard with my reply to you, as in the end I think your comment alone provided a succinct opinion on the video! I always try to come up with my own thoughts on something before reading the comment section, and-when I saw your comment-instead of simply replying with “I agree 👍”, I felt like I needed to add something new or it would come across as impersonal. In this case, it was my thought process on why I disliked that section of the video (and hypothesising on if I would feel differently if an example besides drag was used), and-while I do think it _could_ have some merit in a verbal discussion (where you can get immediate feedback/elaboration or bounce ideas off of), I don’t think it comes across that well in written form.
      That said, I genuinely appreciate you reading it and I enjoyed your response! I do agree that there was a personal bias presented in this video, and by using the drag footage when it did it comes across as it being used as a direct example of something being tolerated when it necessarily shouldn’t (which I strongly disagree with, for the same reasons you explained so well in your original comment)!
      (And if the creator of this video reads this: I truly appreciate you making these videos, as even though I might have whinged about your opinion here I would much rather you feel free to express them than not. To me, a person’s unique ’voice’ (for lack of a better term) is what makes something worth watching/reading!)

    They don't predict the future. They simply identify a trend and the logical trajectory of that trend. Trump quipped about being president 3 years before The Simpsons first aired. Film festivals in 1999 actually had many gay and lesbian short films that are largely lost to history now. Some were compiled as compilations and released under different titles. But most are forgotten. Film festivals did not have the prestige that they do now and South Park was merely making a general observation.

    I hope these predictions didn't happen because South Park did it first. Like they saw the show back then and years later actively work to make them a reality. Like every lone you mentioned happened cuz the people saw the show. That would be calculatingly crazy!

    Now they talk about things when it happens and it’s ahead of its time bc nobody was as up to date as them as well as they have always pushed the edgy comedy taboo topics
