People always freak out about Simpsons predicting 9/11, but they’re either born after 2001 or didn’t do historical research to find out that the twin towers were known to be threatened, like a lot, and they had been attacked before 2001. Though South Park didn’t always exactly predict something happening but that it was obviously coming, they still put more detail into the prediction more than the simpsons ever did. My dad used to host local dragshows when I was a kid in the 2010s,. They were always a lot more careful about things around me, even simple swearing, more so then any one else. I respect your opinion, but I heavily disagree. Great video nonetheless, very well made, shame you have such a little sub count
Besides me personally agreeing with your take, I would also argue that this was the sentiment intended by the episode itself. After Mr. Garrison’s speech at [14:34], Randy follows it up by saying “He's right. Our boys didn't hate homosexuals, they just hated the way _this_ asshole was acting.” Considering this episode came out in 2002, perhaps a more apt example could have been made by using the prevalence of sexual elements within music videos at the time? There was an argument of objectification vs. reclamation; with the benefits of artists’ being able to freely express these elements within their music videos (in what was deemed contextually relevant, artistically inspired, progressive/empowering, etc.) being contrasted with the notion that some artist’s would present this in a more exploitative manner (in cases that people would deem as contextually irrelevant, artistically tactless, objectifying, etc.) (For the record, I do not believe my example using music videos was an intentional reading for this particular episode. This example is also intended to be comparatively ‘low stakes’ argument-wise (as in it’s more of a general art take rather than a debate on what should/shouldn’t be tolerated on TV). Rather, my intention was to put myself in the position of the editor of this video, and trying to consider what footage I could have personally used instead of the drag footage.)
