- I installed a Stealth Hitches hidden hitch on my Golf R and it turned out even better than I expected. Totally hidden and ultra stealthy when not in use. 🤘🏼 Please leave any questions in the comments below and I'll be happy to respond with my thoughts/experience.

This is exactly what I needed to see! Just purchased mine bc of your video!! Thanks!
Awesome, glad I could help! I love mine.
@@TeamFeralCatz used it now for a couple of weeks and love it!
Dude. The guts needed to actually take parts off a car are not a gift of mine haha
It's very easy on these small cars. I'm a girl and did this too. Bumper removal is easy just follow up a tutorial on it to see where the clips and screws are located. The only thing I didn't do myself was the trailer wiring. Uhaul charged me around 45$ to install the wiring themselves so it was cheaper for me since I didn't have to buy additional jacks etc.
Additionally, if you don't want to remove the bumper there's a class 1 Curt hitch you can install by removing 4 screws on the bottom and sandwiching that in between. It'll get you a decent amount of load capacity for bikes and light towing/utility hauling.
Good luck!
Awesome video bro. That was so simple. Thanks!
Dog helping is huge
Couldn't have done it without her
Had one installed on my mk6 GTI and it’s a game changer with a 1up bike rack. Never want to put a mountain bike on the roof again haha. Your golf r is 🔥
Thank you! And I agree completely, it's so nice!
Awesome video I just saw this and was hoping someone did it first lol..I'm gonna be ordering mine soon..thank you for video and info..and anyone else wanting to see more indepth install check out trailers install video on the other hitches of the same car lots of info aswell
Thanks! And thanks for sharing. I still love the product. Couldn't be happier with it.
you may want to look at your floor jack. it seemed to be letting out over time, maybe use some floor stands for protection! thanks for the video. gonna see if the e-Golf can rock a stealth hitch...
Haha yeah good eye, I replaced it. Did you end up getting one for your golf? I still love mine.
Hello your commentary or guidance is much appreciated. I have a 2017 golf r that had hitch bolted directly onto the back of the medal behind the bumper for a bike rack a year and a half ago. I was trying to buy a small utility trailer for my car and needed to make sure I had correct ball and receiver height to match trailer. I then began to question if what i had installed was good enough and looked into owners manual and it states emphatically in 10 places or more this car was not made to tow anything and not to use a two inch ball mount as that weight is definitely not for the car. It further goes into stating that the car is also not made to have a weight distribution hitch installed as I was going to do that to take care of the hitch i had installed for bike rack which is 300 pound max including bike rack. Apparently as was explained to me from hitch and trailer store this is because the golf r framing of the car is all one unit and and not a sub frame bolted into bigger frame.
What ever utility trailer is small and I am not driving far and or loading it up to the max. Just to lowe’s home depot and back home on side roads driving slow. I towed with my father for 10 years as a kid and we pushed the limit sometimes. I really need this utility trailer but am worried about how much the owners manual states repeatedly not to tow anything that car isn’t made for this when a regular golf or gti you can tow with. Any advice is greatly appreciated. There isn’t much on you tube or google.
Hello! Wish I could help more but I only ever use it with a bike rack and it's been fantastic with zero issues. I've heard it's more common in Europe to tow small trailers, I might would try a forum to see if others have experience with towing. Good luck!
I'm pretty sure this is nonsense becuase in Europe people with MK7 Golf's tow campervans all the time. You would have to go down that rabbit hole a bit more but I'm pretty sure they don't want you to tow with these in America so that you don't sue VWoA or something. Install the hitch, keep it at 55mph or below, and you'll likely be fine.
Ya so i towed all kinds of stuff on the 4 by 6 trailer and akward weight placement, wind issues blowing trailer around. When it is just car and trailer it can fly and there really is no difference in car and trailer together. However because the car is so low to the ground i did by hitch receiver and offset where the ball joint connects to trailer raising that hook up point two inches above flat to offset some weight away from car and onto trailer when carrying heavy load. When towing a heavy load like this you cant go faster than 45 50 safely as trailer can start to do the side to side motion. When not towing a heavy or offset weighted trailer load i then bought normal hitch hook up so that i could do normal 70 miles an hour. Bumper was taken off 9 months later and bolts were still snug tight so it appears everything is good to go.
Oh one thing, i got better gas mileage towing than normal if that explains my without trailer driving.
Hmm perhaps the R is just unique. Every other MK7 is fine I would think.
Thanks for uploading man, what year is your golf R?
It's a late 2018 so the mk7.5
You made it look easy. Any advice. Specially with the bumper tabs. Do I just pull it??
Now that you have had it for a few years would you still recommend it? Is it holding up well?
Great video. Are you concerned at all about completely removing the factory reinforcement beam and foam? I live in a city and I'm worried that if someone taps my bumper while parking it would be hollow and more easily dented. This is the only red flag I see with the design so I'm curious to hear your thoughts.
I get that but I do think the original foam could be cut to fit over the new bar so that might help to mitigate it a bit. I'm fortunate to not have to park too often in the city so it wasnt as much of a concern for me.
You suppose it could work on a Jetta?
Thats dope im definately getting this thanx
Rad! Glad I could help. I love mine.
@@TeamFeralCatz Any idea how much it weighs? I mean its over the rear tires so it should do nothing but help traction just wondering the weight thanx bud
Is that a 2" or 1.25" receiver? Seems like this would have slightly worse clearance than non-stealth options when the receiver is attached. Is that the case and if so has it bothered you at all? Definitely looks better than hidden hitch alternatives!
This is the 2" receiver. I did that because I already had a 2" rack from my other car. I'm actually not sure the clearance is any worse since I did cut away some of the rear valence but I havent done a direct comparison.
Which year is your R? I see the label on the box says it’s for 2016 to 2019 years, but on their website they only list it as fitting 2018/2019. WTF?
I’ve got a 2016 and when I contacted them, they said it would not fit because the rear facia on the bumper changed in 2018… if the attachment points are the same, I figured worst case, the trimming required might be a little bit different on the older models, but it would still fit.
Confused!
Mine is a 2018 so I'm not sure but it seems wild to me that it'd be much different on a mk7! Wish I could help out more.
That’s the stealth hitch right? What’s the weight add without the hitch attached?
Sorry for the late response! I wish I had weighed it before installing but I didnt, sorry!
Do you think it'll work with an aftermarket Cat bakck installed? Thanks
I would be surprised if it didnt fit. I haven’t installed one yet but I wouldn’t imagine a cat back would take up more space than the existing muffler.
Would this work with a 2023 (Mk8) GTI? Does wiring need some kind of module to avoid tripping the read sensors all the time?
Not sure on the mk8 but the sensors for me just go wild when I have a rack on the back. I have to disable them every time I go in reverse with the rack on.
Great video , what about your parking sensors ? Do you just turn them off ?
Yes, with a rack on the back the parking sensors go wild so every time I enter reverse I have to tap on the screen to disable them.
Thanks for sharing , do you have link ? I just wanna order
Did you end up ordering one? If so, do you like it? I added a link to the video description if that helps.
where did you buy this?
I got it from their website.
Question please. When I went to their website they don’t have a R option but only GTI. My R is 2015. Not sure if that matters or not?
Sorry for the late response! If you havent I'd email them, they were very helpful when I reached out to find the right one for my 2018.
Any luck getting them to reply? I emailed and they couldn’t offer any specific reason. I’m also confused why this wouldn’t work on an MK7.
Hey, what wheels are these ?
These are the neuspeed RSe102s in hyper black
@@TeamFeralCatz thanks for the response ! 🙏🏽
What is the hitch part # ?
Sorry I never saw this, did you get one? I added a link to the video description if that's helpful.
This definitely won’t work with my aftermarket diffuser
No, sadly not. This is what kept me from getting one. :(
