SWTOR is the only non-cannon Star Wars game that Disney didn't kill off when they took over Lucasarts. But they will never release another license for a Star Wars setting not directly covered in their new cannon. As long as EA shows that they are developing content for SWTOR, the license will renew. And they do this because The Old Republic being non-cannon allows EA to have complete and total creative freedom in a Star Wars setting. Something no one else has or ever will have again. EA plans to redevelop the game in a Final Fantasy XIV fashion. Though that plan has been delayed multiple times now. So who knows when it will happen.
I hit level 60 way before the end of my class story as a F2P. Don't worry about experience if you're doing side quests you stumble on the planets you go to for the main story. You only have to worry about experience if you're rushing through. I hit max level and was using an XP boost from the quest rewards and even now I have 5+ in my inventory. Also if you're using one don't worry about logging out before it runs out, the timer pauses when you're not playing. If you want to become a preferred player sub for one month instead of purchasing cartel coins. You get the max level cap and access to currently released expansions even if you unsub. You also get 500 cartel coins that way. Adding a security key to your account (super easy) gives you 100 cartel coins every month (even as a F2P) even if you're not playing.
@C U Next Tuesday You can get gear that you can equip, just not the most powerful ones. But if you're playing the content that's F2P, you don't really need the super hardcore gear anyway. And eventually you will gather the coins from the security key and if you sub once or twice (since you will need to in order to unlock any new content like the next story update)
I've jumped back in to this game over this month due to Mandalorian and Fallen Order hype. Loving my Sith Warrior and Revan outfits..... just wish Disney would canonise the Old Republic era already.
Also Marvel did a comic series about the happenings in swtor and the old republic. In general the Marvel comics are considered Canon. If you wanna read all 5 you can Google "get comics star wars comics" there you can read and download a lot of the marvel comics :)
1) the Old Republic is CANON and all the Disney "stuff" is BULLSHIT. let's get that cleared up. and truthfully do you really want to see the way KOTOR 1,2 and his book did him beautifully, fucked up by disney? i mean honestly, even SWOTOR got some flack when they actually introduced him back in. In the beginning, we just had his cult *cough first order cough, yeah I'm looking at you disney*
Lord Daisah I want Disney to stay the fuck away from the old republic not until they start cleaning house and completely restructure Lucas film they have shown nothing but being inept in both writing as well as interactions with the fandom
Revan was in a deleted scene for one of the canon animated shows, can't remember if it was Clone Wars or Rebels, but he is more or less "canon" at this point
Kinda sick of the whole concept of "canon" anyway. Tired of being told what to pay attention to. Just want to like what I want to like. It's all fiction anyway so who cares?
#1 most important RPG related tip is: you will NOT see half of the missions (!!!) by default unless you enable them: open map (M) bottom left "Show exploration missions". tick it, enable it. These are short sideline quests near/close to main quests, and rewards includes credits, experience. Not to mention the additional story / background elements you can discover. Of course you can still skip them, and they are available later if you return (the important class and planet quests are the purple ones.) This is to "make the game easier to digest for more casual players"........... For example all jedi at the beginning of the game in Tython can ran across a mission involving two jedi lovers which will put them on a moral dilemma what to do.... etc. etc. etc. #2 Inventory space 1. you can deconstruct non-needed green or better items, and sell all non-needed items. 2. you can put your materials into the new crafts material inventory (patch 6.0) 3. you can mail your non-bound to you items to your other characters and back. 4. you can access Cargo Hold at Fleet, later on your spaceship 5. to access your Legacy Storage you need access to a stronghold/guildship, cheapest if you join any guild. No matter how you access it, your Legacy Storage is yours only. 6. It is possible to unlock items as a "collection", see your inventory's collection or hover over your item in your inventory. All collection items can be dragged out any time, so you can even drop/destroy those and get them again from your collections inventory. For some only one is needed to be equipped and its unlocked in collections, some needs a whole set to unlock, for example an outfit of 7 items you need all seven. ((((and once you unlocked something in your collection you can buy at the collection the pssiblity to unlock for all future character, called legacy wide unlock ))) #3 crew skills as soon as arrived to the Fleet choose a crew skill, a "secondary" skill. I suggest skills that let you gather materials. Not sure what is free to players what is for preferred players (sub for 1 month then cancel, all level and expansion are available for them). Also many cartel coins may be earned by completing achievements (1000+), just google swtor free stuff see first few hit. (Also check ruclips.net/video/l4Se5fd4PY0/видео.html for great tips)
I was just about to mention the exploration quests. It took me forever to find out about them, and it really is a shame if you are roleplaying, since many of them have light/dark side choices, and as you said, they are an interesting addition to the main questline. One of the downsides however, is the fact that doing them all, makes you level up too fast. You end up being overleveled early on, and it can make the game kinda boring because you just oneshot everything, until the awkward moment when you have gotten used to being OP, and then find yourself getting destroyed by a random miniboss because you don't really pay attention to what you are doing (it really is a struggle...)
@@ProBreaker Previously you have been overleveled but not anymore. well not really. since your power level gets upgraded/downgraded depending on a planet. Though having much more abilities does make you more powerful
@@CG-hf2cd Consulars do pick it up in Act2 and Act3 though. Act2 being in between, a mediocre (the reveal would have been a bit better if more interaction would be allowed) and Act3 being really amazing.
The Sith Warrior, the Imperial Agent and the Jedi Knight are great stories. The Sith Warrier und the Jedi Knight are especially great in combination with the later expansions (special dialogs, etc) and the Knight feels like what KOTOR III propably would have been
Light side Sith Warrior will always be my favourite story in SWTOR! Even the Imperial Agent cannot compare to that, but he's number 2 on my top list. ;)
Hello! I just want to share a little bit of tips/ways that I learned over the years. I've been a f2p on and off player for about 5 years now and I would like to help you out. :) First, I have found that a good way to play the game would be to focus on progressing one character first. This is so that it would be easier to "spoil" other toons that you create (by buying and getting them good gear, mounts, etc. early on) to decrease the hassle of starting over again each time you create a new character. I've also realised that playing the content on the Imperial faction (missions, heroics, flashpoints, etc.) seems to be easier than playing on the Republic side. Maybe that's just my bias, but after dedicating a lot of my time to the game I believe it's true. Aside from this, ever since the release of additional expansions this year, it's been a LOT easier to play the game as an f2p player. The increased credit cap + level cap and better experience in leveling up is why I returned to the game. Because of this I recommend that when you progress any character, make sure that the level of your toon is a few levels higher than what is required for the missions. It makes it easier to do the story content on each planet as well. Lastly, again I don't want to single out certain classes and exclude the rest, but there are several classes which I find easier to grind through the content in the game to stack up on credits and gear. The first are the classes that have more AoE abilities (which deal damage on a wider scale) than others. For the Empire it's the Sith Sorcerer, Mercenary, and Sniper. On the Republic side it's Jedi Sage, Gunslinger, and Commando. Their wide range of abilities make them great all around characters and allow you to eliminate enemies and survive easier. But if you're not so into grinding, the classes that have stealth are the second kind of toons that I like playing. For the Empire it's Sith Assassin and Imperial Operative. On the Republic side it's the Jedi Shadow and Scoundrel. One last tip: check the GTN (Galactic Trade Network) often. There are players who sell cool gear, mounts, and other items at really good prices. Every now and then I get lucky and find amazing stuff on sale for my characters. :)
Awww bless! Harkens back memories to when we all started out... This game and community deserve more attention. This game and the people... they're my home. And that will never change.
Doc the memories of Harkun that take me back involve thoughts of high towers, force throwing and the inevitable schluup sound, that comes from someone decelerating really really quicklyas they meet the ground.. oh, my bad, you said harken :D
I noticed none of your characters were buffed. Each class has a buff that can be cast on yourself that last for an hour. Hunter's Boon would be for your bounty-hunter. It increases your endurance by 5%. Your inquisitor would use Mark of Power. Anyway, be sure to always have these on. Also, after you progress far enough into a character's story (chapter 2 i believe), their class buff will be available for all other characters you have. So you can ultimately have all 4 class buffs available to any character and they'll all activate by using that characters specific buff.
These are great tips for new players. Great job! I have been playing SWTOR since early 2012. I have one last tip, ask the community of players for help. On starting planets and the fleets there are plenty of players who will answer questions especially for new players. I got help when I first started, so I will answer questions for other new players. I want these players to stick around and grow the game.
SITH INQUISITOR!!!!! My first max level toon. I subbed to you for your obvious love of SWTOR. I have been thinking of going back to SWTOR. The intro movies still give me goosebumps. :-)
I aquired my first stronghold at lvl 50 after completing 4 classes, You can imagine my inventory in each character. Now I become a subscriber and "my chains are broken, the subscription set me free" xd
Free is a lie. There is only payment. Through payment i gain premium. Through premium i gain subscription. Through subscription i gain the best items in game. My chains are broken, subscription shall set me free!
A lot of the planetary stories will give out XP boosts as part of their quest rewards. Also, if you add the authenticator (phone app) to your account, you get 100 cartel coins per month for free.
Just started watching your videos/Twitch stream, love the content! I'm so glad you've been enjoying this game, it's one of my absolute favorites! I'm coming up on 8 years now with SWTOR, excluding beta time. It's been a wild ride, and I wouldn't trade it for anything else. I'm a long time MMO and RPG player, starting with City of Heroes in 2004, and Baldur's Gate in 1998 respectively. SWTOR is such an incredible immersion into the Star Wars universe, giving a lens into the Old Republic era that few other games do. My main is a Sith Juggernaut, and on the Sith Warrior class alone, I've played through the story 6 separate times through the Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion, making different decisions and role-playing accordingly along the way. This isn't to say some "look at how much I've played this game /flex", but to say how incredibly immersive and engaging this game can be. I've been playing World of Warcraft fairly actively for almost 15 years (joining between patches 1.2 & 1.3), and I can easily say I've put more time into SWTOR in 8 years, than I have in WoW in 15 years. The game has definitely had its ups and downs, but it's in a solid place at the moment, and very approachable for new/free players, especially if they're primarily interested in the story content. If anyone is interested or ever needs help, my main's name is Tyrax, on the Star Forge (US) server, Imperial side. I hold unusual contests and giveaways on the fleet, from trivia to hide & seek, and beyond.
Much of that is explained in the game. One tip that isn't is if you want to focus on leveling then only do the main quest and skip ALL side quests. Doing so, because the amount of XP the main quest gives equals about a dozen side quests. Once you have leveled "enough", go back to the planet and do the side quests here and there. The stories are fantastic and revisiting the world is nostalgic and stops the feel of "one be done" with the planets.
I've been an on again/off again sub since launch, and all I gotta say is, the $15 as a one off really is a nice perk since it gives you access to ALL the expansions and content, even once you're no longer subbed, you'll still get to play up to max lvl and experience all the story content without having to worry about things like credit caps for the month you're subbed. Then when you become preferred, you'll have less of a hindrance. Something else I'd like to recommend, lvl a jk/sw, jc/si, trooper/bh, smug/ia to 50 (just one of each), because once you finish up one of the stories, you'll get the buff permanently on all characters, and since they're all mirror classes of one another, if you finish your sith inquisitor, but then finish the jedi knight story, your inquisitor will still get the sith warrior buff since you finished the jedi knight story. Another thing I'd recommend is, if f2p allows it, once you have your companion, set them to heals and run every heroic. The reason for this is that they will heal you through everything while you go in, and each heroic drops really good gear for lvling. Because of this, just do those first on each planet, and then you can run the class mission/planet mission without any issue since your gear from heroics will always out lvl the planet.
That's exactly how I do it with every char. Except, I'm getting full adaptive gear with Level 10 and switch the sockets every 4 Levels. I'm using H2's gear just for earpiece, implants and relics. :)
I lol'd when you talked about discovering tab target hahaha. That's an industry standard fyi, like wasd for movement and space for jump. It's noteworthy when a hotbar based mmo VARIES from that formula. Just teasing though, we all start somewhere :) when I started playing them in like 2007 I was pretty clueless too
Provided you actually do all the quests, including Heroics (Raids & Flashpoints aren't necessary), Planet return bonus series and so on, until lvl 50 atleast you'll actually be either right on the intended level or even above it , without ever needing to use Xp boosts. As for the whole F2P, Preferred or Sub , i would honestly suggest getting Preferred pretty early on, because there's quite a few decent perks there. Other sub-only perks can either be purchased through cartel coins you bought or earned through legacy achievements, which is something that can take varying amounts of effort depending on how much you've done beforehand
Just a little extra info about companion conversations, you can speak to them in a Stronghold as well but sometimes they will only talk on the ship (When the icon of a rocket appears on their portrait)
If you have a lot of skills you can change how it shows them by pressing the plus sign, that way you don't have to click the up arrow for the next row you can also fast travel, in the tutorial index it shows you how you can also get a speeder or vehicle buy going to the speeder vender. these venders should pop up once you got to your first planet, to find them look at you map and select vendor and hover over them until you find the speeder vendors
Hi, welcome to the game from an Early Access vet! :) A tip for the latest expansion Onslaught, if you want: you can be F2P for the entire leveling process, the vanilla story, Hutt Cartel, Shadow of Revan, Knights of the Fallen Empire, Knights of the Eternal Throne (and all the preludes in between like Forged Alliances, Fractured Alliances). When you're ready for the next part of the story, then subscribe for a month to get Onslaught. This way you're not wasting your sub time leveling older content and rushing. You will be able to take your time with the older content and stories, then grab the sub for the continued story. The game is super alt-friendly, and that will help because with 8 different vanilla stories, you will want 1 of each (and maybe 1 male toon 1 female toon of each). Enjoy your time playing! ~well wishes from someone on Star Forge.
When subscribed, you're barely wasting time when leveling. Do all the missions (including heroics) on the first planet. After you arrive on the fleet, do one flashpoint and then take the mission that brings you to the next planet instead of the shuttle. Try to do this in veteran mode with a group. In doing so I have one of my characters already at level 25. Don't forget to have XP boosts active and before you know it you are close to level 35 when arriving on the third planet. After this you can be selective in which side quests you wanna do. That said, don't subscribe if you're just playing for the story. I subsribed because I wanted to do late game group content with my level 75 sith sorcerer, such as master mode flashpoints and operations.
@@edi_7824 I understand and agree with all of that. But for a first timer, it's not about getting to max level immediately, it's about playing the content. That's why I suggested subbing after you're satisfied with playing the free stories. It would be a disservice IMO to tell a newbie to rush the story experience. Taking your time doing the story line, planetary missions, flashpoints/ops and the free expansions can take a month if you have limited playtime and/or are playing a few classes at once. SWTOR is the one game, it seems, where the best part of the game is the ride to level cap. So better to not waste a 30day sub if you're taking your time.
Just wanted to correct one thing: To become a Preferred Player one only needs to spend any money on the game, it can be subscribing, buying Cartel Coins for the market or upgrading to the Deluxe for a few goodies. Outside of that, good vid!
Started playing 2 days ago as was never a big fan of pc gaming, decided to give the game a try as Disney left a foul taste in my mouth with Thier 'idea' of the SW universe. Really enjoying the class story's, brings back memories of playing Kotor. Keep up the videos I will be watching to learn all I can while I play solo
an extended quickbar option should be available to you so that you can place more abilities for use in combat on your screen. you can assign keys to those slots as well. I typically assign the keys for strafing to abilities since you can strafe by holding the right mouse button. also the "x" key which is only used to sit down. i take it further by mapping the R, T, F, and V keys as well. I find that keying abilities is much faster than clicking.
Glad to see new material on swtor. It still has a lot to offer compared to other newer games, and after 3.5 years of playing I still enjoy it a lot. Crafting offers an excellent way to make credits and joining a good guild can make the experience much more fun. Thank you for sharing your tips!
For #1, you can also use a legacy bank of sorts to transfer items across characters (provided they're bound to legacy, not character, which sometimes is an issue). I use them to store some items I got from the adaptive equipment vendors in DK and Coruscant. For #2, it doesn't really take much to get overleveled, unless you're just going for class quests, maybe also some story quests, but the thing is: if you're doing all quests you come across, you're going to end up somewhat perky on your level, and if you run flashpoints, you can end up being maybe 20 levels above the story you're doing. I don't even use my XP boosts anymore, even though I'm also F2P and still not at max level. For #4, it's a bit of a standard for these MMOs (although I personally would die for a system similar to the one Secret World Legends uses) to have a tab-targeting system, and if you stop to notice, it goes from left to right on your screen, so you can quite accurately predict which enemy you'll lock on, or maybe even manipulate your field of view so that you only have one enemy in sight, then hit tab and you'll target the only enemy on your screen. The game does have tutorials when you hit T and it's good practice to read them, even if some of them might sound stupid ("use WASD to move lol, bet you didn't think of that"), some others might not be obvious to certain people who are not particularly familiar with these games. I already have tab-targeting as second nature, but some people just don't play enough games of the genre to have it memorized as a general mechanic. By the way, use the advanced interface with the three quickbars; you're gonna have them all filled by the end.
I came back to SWTOR this past week (funny how RUclips found out about that lmao) after a long break; I'm just hit again by how good the level design is; places like Taris have great mood and design, even the "sterile" planets have great lighting and unique design. And yes the romances are great (my middle name is "insert fabricated sexual tension manufactured in my head into every single female trooper/Elara Dorne interaction"). It was the first MMo I played but somehow coming back to it after playing many others makes me realize how special it is.
I have been playing this game on and off for years. The community has always felt far more accepting than most other mmos. And I loved it when they changed how Flashpoints were done. Back in the old days if the majority of your flash point party choose darkside option, you got saddled with the darkside points even if you choose the lightside option. They fixed it so if you were going for a lightside or darkside run you only got the points for the option you picked out I think the storyline plays out on majority so it can be hard to see different endings. But I heard they might have changed that since I last played.
I don't know if you know this already, but if you run 40 veteran fps in the same legacy, doesn't have to be the same character, you get a companion (Darth Hexid) whos available for ALL your characters even on other servers after paying 10 Cartel Coins for the unlock
Actually, SWTOR has some kind of Auto-Tab-Targeting system. Yes, you can click on the mobs and/or cycle through them with Tab like in every other Tab-Targeting MMO, but SWTOR also auto-targets the next hostile npc in front of you when you just press your attacks without having a target or when your most recent target died. That speeds up the fighting significantly as you can just approach a new group of enemies and press your first attack without having to select a target beforehand. It's a neat little feature which I miss everytime I'm not playing SWTOR but something like WoW instead. ;)
If you are f2p kill everything ad do all the bonuses. Do all the heroics. Try to do the achievements you will get cartel coins for some. Get synr or armorsmech for some good lookin free armor. Adaptive gear vendor gives you good lookin armor that you can use as a costume. Get any amount of cartel coins for real monay and you will be preferred! One month of sub gives you every dlc forever!
Another thing good to know is , the best content in this game is also the free to play content .The first 5ish Planets are amazing and the paid content after only made me long for the quality of the first planets.
The heroic missions are now a great way to equip your toon properly. As the planets adjust to your level you will get drops appropriate to you. So I do my start planet, at the end, do the heroics. Then you go to fleet and the capital planet. Go back to your start planet the next day and do the heroics again. You will keep getting equipment to upgrade, credits and is quick. Keep redoing the early planet heroics as you level up. Ok, I liked the video and you are fun to listen to, but there are some minor misconceptions. The storage you get "in your ship" is actually your toon storage and is available at fleet. So from the time you go from start planet to fleet you should have it. That is unique to the one toon. The one you get at the stronghold later is your legacy storage which ALL your toons can see (on the same legacy). The conversations to the companions stack up so when you get to it you will have them all in order. Sometimes they can't stop talking. :-) Don't worry so much about the XP and boosts. Hard to notice. On the first 3 or 4 planets, do all the main story and side quests. You will soon be over-level and the going is easier and faster that way. :-) Play every class, the different story lines the first levels are fun.
Even as a free to play player you should have more action bars available. You should be able to go into the Interface editor and activate those and re-arrange some other things! Definitely check it out!
I've played this game for a while as a F2P and I don't see the need for waiting to level 20 to use the EXP boosts. Atm on the class I am playing on I am like 10 levels overleveled and have at least 4 EXP boosts in my inventory. I don't do any extra leveling or that, but I do every main mission, planet story arc mission and Heroics. That gives enough EXP to be ahead on levels :P It might also help, that I've played the missions many times, so I know where to go and what to do and I don't waste time with the boosts.
This would be an amazing game, if it wasn't an MMO. I have played it on-and-off for years, and the only two storylines I actually completed were the Sith Warrior and the Jedi Consular. To put it bluntly, the game simply has too many pointless time-sinks that I would simply mod or cheat out in a single player game so that I could actually play the interesting parts, such as the quests and the story-line, but because it's an MMO, I can't, and that's what chases me away every time I try to get back into it. Time is the most precious commodity out there, and I do not appreciate when my entertainment purposefully wastes mine.
@Gabor Horvath I kind of agree with you on this. I'm not a fan of predatory gaming practices a lot of games seem to be employing these days. So much so that I've vowed not to touch another mmo again, or purchase games that have lootbox gambling aspects to them. That being said, I think SWTOR is probably one of the lesser offenders when it comes to this. I think it's entirely possible to do just the storyline and treat this game as an rpg, without partaking in other aspects of the game. Many players already do this. Everything else in game is entirely optional and isn't forced on anyone. In theory, I respect your point of view, but in practice I'm disappointed when I see a lot of people who say that go on to do things like demand the best gear. Like, what's the point of having the very best gear if your only interested in casual story play? To me, that's more a reflection of poor self control and expectation setting on the part of the player, rather than the fault of the game.
All i do is the planet main story quest and my class quest. Use the xp boosts and I am always out leveled for the planet I am on. I have all 8 imp classes to 60 this method. Now working on Republic.
This fame is honestly one of EA’s wins. I’m preferred but was F2P for so long and I’ve played and will continue to play for the stories. I’ve finished inquisitor, warrior, smuggler, and knight, and I’m going to finish bounty hunter soon, and he’ll I’m probably gonna finish them all by the end of the year cause I love it so much
There is another targeting option, don't know exactly what it's called, maybe 'autotarget', which lets you point the camera at an enemy, use a targeted ability, and they will become your target as you attack them. This is the primary way I target enemies. With practice, it's about 99% accurate. You learn where you should TAB and where you should autotarget as you get proficient.
*Cartel Coins* aren't a subscriber-only thing. Link SWTOR's security key app/token to your account. You get 100cc/month. You can also buy cc. Tip: Use cartel coins only for stuff that you can unlock only with cartel coins (e.g. unlock collectibles legacy-wide). Most of the stuff you can buy with credits. Takes time to get credits, but it's better than having to buy cc or waiting for your monthly cc to come. I also recommend to enable *Exploratory Missions* (you can find it in your map). They are normal missions. Before 4.0 they were normally available just like every other quests, but I guess BW didn't want to overload new players with missions and hid missions without gear as reward by default. I'm not sure about *EXP-boosts*. I've usually been a subscriber when I started to play again, so I'd have to try it out. Iirc you should get a 3h-EXP-boost at the end of planet-story questline, at class story's end on respective planet, and one through class story on starting planet. Would love to hear how it's for an f2p-player from you. :) Use a *referal-code* to get some items for each character (f2p: 1x quick travel, 5x minor-exp-boost, 1x inventory modul // preferred: 1x inventory modul, 1x crew skill slot, 1x display titles-unlock, 1x unify colors-unlock). As preferred you can use one every 90 days to get 7 days premium (or 90 days after your last premium). Btw: My general recommendation is to buy at least 1 month premium. You permanently unlock all expansions and story contents that were available, while you were premium. You also become preferred after your premium runs out. (Differences between f2p/preferred/sub: www.reddit.com/r/swtor/wiki/f2p )
i have been playing swtor 7 years roughly now its a great game glad your enjoying it. great video and i would recommend SWTORista to i like to help ppl to where i can :-) the smuggler was my first character
Found the video, not super useful for me (since I'm not exactly new) but I decided to watch anyways to see what tips you give. Really well done video, good things to bring up, and I'm definitely gonna subscribe and look for more SWTOR content and maybe check out other stuff you've done
Well, that tip on the xp depends a lot on the activities you are doing. For me, when I create a new char I do all the main missions first and some that are around the map and I always use xp boost. Believe me you won't run out of xp boosts if you keep doing your missions
Starting to play SWTOR as F2P for the first time in 2022, and I really wish I watched this video before I started! Had to figure out most of this stuff the hard way.
oh gods, the datacrons. They're worth it, but gods are they painful to have to collect, especially once you hit the expansion ones that take literal hours just to complete.
you can talk to the companions on your factions station. I am surprised you didnt see this icon above their head. Still with a little bit of research, you can find info on all 5 of these things before starting to play. Goodluck.
If you play Sith Warrior then I recommend trying it Light Sided. For the first chapter especially playing a heretical Sith can be a very interesting experience.
Suggestion: Save companion conversations until after your lvl 20 when you use XP boosts and hit them all at once so you get all the XP from convos boosted at the same time.
another tip...do not purchase gear until you truly feel you need to. You shouldn't need to worry about buying any sort of gear not obtained through normal play until late game.
Even though I always hate it when every dialogue comes chucked after one another, it might be a good tip for others. I just think it kinda destroys the role play and the development of the characters (the one that doesn't really happen, I know. I like to imagine it does)

I clearly recall the TAB cycle through baddies thing being explained in a tutorial but I havent played the game in years
I was 11 when the game was released and I wanted to play it so bad, but I doesn't had the right hardware, bc I was and still am a console child. Now in 2021, I have more then good enough hardware to play the game and I remembered that game, so I downloaded it. It was like a childhood dream came true. :D
Unless they changed it, you also get Preferred Status if you purchase Cartel Coins. I bought the cheapest option ($6 at the time) and got Preferred. It made the game so much more playable and for a one time fee it was worth it.
You can rebind "tab" on "selecting nearest target" or "next target". This is pretty good for tab targeting. So you can choose weather the target is next "in sight" or "nearby". SWTOR is a game not keepin me for long, but it is also a game with the most come backs ;D It was nice at release but tbh for me the game gets worse over time. Still ok to play through the story, as a solo player, but the group content in SWTOR is pretty bad compared to other MMOs. And I do not like the skill trees and the removal of the skilling system at all. I liked it to be Consular until lvl 10 and choose weather I wanna be a Sage or a Shadow. And I likes the skilltrees and die option to get a hybrid spec. And I likes the different attributes for different classes and things like surge as secondary stats. So sad, they removed so many things. And sadly the made companions op. Was better as a companion just could do one thing. Dps, or heal, or tank. Not "and". And I misse open world grp content like the H4 quests. SO many things EA did wrong (imho!!) in an originally fantastic MMO :(
I used to love swtor I got all characters up to lever 65 (max at the time) and then the upgrade came and I hated the endgame grind that came with that patch I used to lovr pvp and getting pvp gear true playing pvp (there used to be a special pvp star on these gear making them weaker for pve) . That update ruined it for me as items you got where random. Making it feels like pvp will forever be unbalanced as there be always better equipment. But beside that i loved playing swtor in the years I did the endgame became to repetitive and I did ot like the latest storyline. Also they where making more storyline when I'm more interested in Flashpoint raids and pvp or just open world exploration / invading opposide territories. Killing these huge world bosses. I miss swtor.. But bad updates. Definitely try it out and don't forget to queue for Flashpoint / use chat to seek ppl for the heroic 2 or 4 quests. (also try operative / healer or jedi sage)
i kinda stopped playing the game when i got max level char during revan expansion and lost the subscription so with prefered status i stopped getting command exp for better gear what made me really lost motivation to continue playing
People can say anything about swtor it is still one of my fav game and bioware game also the sub is very worth as you gain all the expansion for ever even after you are not subbed !
I’ve played wow my whole life (I’m 22) but I always love watching videos about kotor and swtor they look like so much fun and I’m so interested in Star Wars lore, I might have to try this game (:
If you like Star Wars lore, you will enjoy this game. It is generous with lore, more than WoW was IMO. Your game takes place around 3000 years before the movies. If you really want a fun lore experience, start with Knights of the Old Republic and KOTOR 2, as they predate the MMO and are the basis for the MMO (SWTOR takes place 300 years after KOTOR). KOTOR are great games, and fantastic stories all on their own. Coming into SWTOR, you will appreciate references more in the game, but it isn't strictly required to play KOTOR first.
I have played (and still play) both games. Why do I like more SWTOR? Because of the mechanics. Quite opposite to WoW you don't need BiS gear because your skills and awareness are what is important. Last but not least: extremely huge game content (and ppl who beaching about lack of such -please link me 65k+ achievements and I tend to believe you that the game is already boring to you) P.P. And yes best story line I have ever experienced among all mmros.
@@quan196 Gotta fight you a bit on that, I would not consider achievements as "content" . More of a, hey I am bored, what can I do on this planet now? Sure they are fun, at least some of them, but not a true content compared to classical flashpoints, raids, etc. At least IMO.
If you haven’t already, you could consider subbing for 1 month to get al expansions up to lvl 75. Even when you unsubscribe your access to all expansions remain👍🏾 I enjoy playing mercs the most 😸👍🏾 Maybe you could make a video doing some heroics or flashpoints 😺
I can't agree more there subscribing at least one time is the way to go the knights of the fallen empire expansion and beyond are the best things this game has to offer tbh.
Some comments: 1- Becoming a Preferred player only takes a purchase of like $5 from the cash shop (if I remember correctly), and opens up a TON of quality of life improvements not just inventory space. 2- XP boosts aren't necessary at all. If you like doing both the world and class story line then you should keep up. If you also do a ton of side quests you will pull ahead on XP even without a boost. 3- Wait... you can have strongholds as a free players?! I didn't know. I just lived on my ship and clearly missed stuff. 4- Yeah the talking only in social areas tripped me up as well. 5- Targeting is auto targeting. If I remember correctly just activating a combat power will auto target the closest enemy. (if you don't want to use tab) 6- I kind of miss the old customization skill trees the new ones are more of a path instead of a tree. I did all 8 base stories. They all rock. PS: Use customizable gear instead of the rewarded gear. This will keep you well equipped as you level. (And it will allow you to look cool while leveling too) :)
Getting preferred status through the cartel market doesn’t grant dlcs! So it’s more cost effective to get yourself a one month sub and gain access to all of them + preferred status that way!
Youre wrong about the hearing with adaptable gear. You only get green mods where as heroics give better better gear and its an easy way to make credits as well.
Could you do some videos on just general how to's or refreshers? I played a while ago and got to lvl 50 as a f2p player but honestly don't remember much about the game. I'm starting it back up and scrambling to figure out everything again so I don't get to lvl 25 and just remember how to check mail.
Absolutely! I've got a few more videos in mind for general overviews of different SWTOR topics! I just recently released on explaining the Legacy System and also have one on the companion influence system!
I used to be a free2play player, but then what I did was just buy cartel coins for like 2 dollars and get preffered. So I could create more chars and get other stuff etc.
Oh, one more tip/trick I have done with this game and elder scrolls online...... Stay in the starter area (where the story starts) and grid up to level 10. You'll have a jump on the later enemies in the game that are more difficult. Hope this helps anyone! May the force be with you
@@isseihyoudou4872 On Korriban I grind up to level 3 or 4 just on the slugs because it's so fast. Then I'm usually around 13-14 when I finish the planet. From then on it's mostly FPs and I'm always ahead of my class planet level.
i remember i started in like 2016 and always stop for long periods of time after playing for long periods of time, stopped for couple months came back for few months left for couple weeks came back for couple months left for over year came back stopped for couple weeks came back still playing lol not sure why but i do love this game i have my favorite imp and rep appearances for all characters favorite mounts 88mil currently in bank not sure what to spend on but one thing i wish i knew when i started was when buying hypercrates dont equip everything unless you want it cause i didn't know if i waited i could sale on GTN haha
tab to target.... if you just simply attack, you will automatically target the closest thing. I always use my cursor at the start of the fight to target the npc that in the middle of the group so that my aoe's hit them all... after that i don't bother with the targeting, i just kill kill kill until every thing's dead... well, usually. every now and then there's an elite slipped into a group and you want to take down the weaker trash first, for me it's easier to target with my cursor still.
Yeah this game keeps calling you back every time some new Star Wars stuff comes out. I am so glad that EA still supports it after 8 years.
*for the money*
@@SonOfHubris well no shit. That's kinda the point
If you don't care for older graphics you may like to try an emulator of SWG. Open world star wars feeling.
Apparently it is very profitable for EA. They said recently released some news saying that the game has earned almost $1 billion since it launched.
If you're new to the game and love exploration, /stuck Save you, it will.
Zeffen - Zeff or Zee lol yes it will
It saved me countless times. Trust in it, you must!
it has saved me so much i always jump on stuff and it always ends up backfiring lmao
Ha I've been playing for 5 years and that's my most used command
The only command I actually use. ;)
Adding a security key to your account (super easy) gives you 100 cartel coins every month (even as a F2P) even if you're not playing.
this comment was more helpful than the video 😭
@@vvs9078 Glad I could help!
Thank you sir!
@@beedeelive You are welcome sir!
I've jumped back in to this game over this month due to Mandalorian and Fallen Order hype.
Loving my Sith Warrior and Revan outfits..... just wish Disney would canonise the Old Republic era already.
Some stuff is canon like Vitiate Palpatine does talk about Vitiate in books
The only piece of Star Wars legends that is still supported
Maybe it's cannon
@@Shablimbles nope :(
...just head canon.
sootythunder why is this so facts
It makes no sense that it isn't canon. It's literally thousands of years in the past, it affects nothing in their canon.
Of course you can still skip them, and they are available later if you return (the important class and planet quests are the purple ones.)
This is to "make the game easier to digest for more casual players"...........
For example all jedi at the beginning of the game in Tython can ran across a mission involving two jedi lovers which will put them on a moral dilemma what to do.... etc. etc. etc.
#2 Inventory space
1. you can deconstruct non-needed green or better items, and sell all non-needed items.
2. you can put your materials into the new crafts material inventory (patch 6.0)
3. you can mail your non-bound to you items to your other characters and back.
4. you can access Cargo Hold at Fleet, later on your spaceship
5. to access your Legacy Storage you need access to a stronghold/guildship, cheapest if you join any guild. No matter how you access it, your Legacy Storage is yours only.
6. It is possible to unlock items as a "collection", see your inventory's collection or hover over your item in your inventory. All collection items can be dragged out any time,
so you can even drop/destroy those and get them again from your collections inventory. For some only one is needed to be equipped and its unlocked in collections, some needs
a whole set to unlock, for example an outfit of 7 items you need all seven. ((((and once you unlocked something in your collection you can buy at the collection the pssiblity to unlock for all future character, called legacy wide unlock )))
#3 crew skills
as soon as arrived to the Fleet choose a crew skill, a "secondary" skill.
Make sure to play all the classes, most of their stories are amazing.
Republic Trooper has the worst class story, while the Imperial Agent has the best class story.
@@CG-hf2cd idk, personally i think the sage has the worst class story, but like 6/8 good stories is still pretty good
@@mortammer I'd say the sage has a weak class story, unlike the troopers terrible class story.
@@CG-hf2cd Consulars do pick it up in Act2 and Act3 though. Act2 being in between, a mediocre (the reveal would have been a bit better if more interaction would be allowed) and Act3 being really amazing.

Try imp Agent best story in the game ^^
@@smoothsa420 i will after Inquisitor :P but yeah i heard Agent is the best as well. Ive done a Chass already she just waits hehe
Even the Imperial Agent cannot compare to that, but he's number 2 on my top list. ;)
Smoothsa420 my favourite is agent and inquisitor
Hello! I just want to share a little bit of tips/ways that I learned over the years. I've been a f2p on and off player for about 5 years now and I would like to help you out. :)
First, I have found that a good way to play the game would be to focus on progressing one character first.
Why am I here. I’ve been playing this game for 7 years.
You can get more quickbars as f2p, if you click on that little plus button.
Started the game not too long ago, and I really like the stories! Super cool that it's still supported
You can also talk to companions in strongholds, so if you don't have a ship yet but have a stronghold you can talk to them there.
SITH INQUISITOR!!!!! My first max level toon. I subbed to you for your obvious love of SWTOR. I have been thinking of going back to SWTOR. The intro movies still give me goosebumps. :-)
I've never played this game in my life and my buddy has been wanting me to get into it for a long time so thank you for these tips!
It’s a really, really fun game. I’m *still* addicted to it! I hope you enjoy

The battery on mine died after two years and no way to replace it. I was told to just buy a new one. I didn't. Seems sus to me.
Took two years off about a month after beta and been only swtor ever since.
Love this game.
Good to see our swtor family constantly grow. So many people have no idea of this game and how good it is.
I go back to this game so many times over the years. I love it.
I played this years ago, and this was helpful for jumping back in. Character progression is a whole new system from launch.
You can also customise your UI - add extra bars, move UI elements, etc. You can save profiles to use on other characters. Very handy.
The stories are fantastic and revisiting the world is nostalgic and stops the feel of "one be done" with the planets.
that's only if your a sub if your free to play you have too do all side missions to be at the appropriate level
Just teasing though, we all start somewhere :) when I started playing them in like 2007 I was pretty clueless too
The tab button tips just help me a lot ! Thanks you so much
Provided you actually do all the quests, including Heroics (Raids & Flashpoints aren't necessary), Planet return bonus series and so on, until lvl 50 atleast you'll actually be either right on the intended level or even above it , without ever needing to use Xp boosts.
This helped a lot. This is my 1st mmo. Not gonna lie I was completely lost at time. But you did a good job on helping me out on some tips thanks!
Tip #4: Go look at keybindings. Also, tab is the default for most mmo's.
You had me at your DA references. Very interesting video. Well done
another small tip... double tap the hotkey for a aoe attack to center the attack on whom you are locked onto.
Just a little extra info about companion conversations, you can speak to them in a Stronghold as well but sometimes they will only talk on the ship (When the icon of a rocket appears on their portrait)
If you have a lot of skills you can change how it shows them by pressing the plus sign, that way you don't have to click the up arrow for the next row
you can also fast travel, in the tutorial index it shows you how you can also get a speeder or vehicle buy going to the speeder vender. these venders should pop up once you got to your first planet, to find them look at you map and select vendor and hover over them until you find the speeder vendors
You can have all hotbars displayed at once, if you want.
Glad to see new material on swtor. It still has a lot to offer compared to other newer games, and after 3.5 years of playing I still enjoy it a lot.
Crafting offers an excellent way to make credits and joining a good guild can make the experience much more fun.
Thank you for sharing your tips!
Seriously! The crystals + dye modules you can craft are a fantastic way to get some credits!
Tab-targeting is a thing from old MMO's and it's just a method that's stuck around as all the popular ones are old. :3
great video! have just started playing SWTOR and loving it! Finding this game more welcoming that other MMORPG's
It's a neat little feature which I miss everytime I'm not playing SWTOR but something like WoW instead. ;)
I would recommend going into settings and looking at everything. Lots of options to make game play more enjoyable and easier.
If you are f2p kill everything ad do all the bonuses.
Do all the heroics.
Try to do the achievements you will get cartel coins for some.
Get synr or armorsmech for some good lookin free armor.
Adaptive gear vendor gives you good lookin armor that you can use as a costume.

This is super helpful! Thanks for making this for us SWTOR noobs. 😊
That gives enough EXP to be ahead on levels :P
It might also help, that I've played the missions many times, so I know where to go and what to do and I don't waste time with the boosts.
I literally didn’t get my apartment on my Sith warrior (first character back in 2017) until I was level 50 on subscription 😂 so I feel ya
Use a *referal-code* to get some items for each character (f2p: 1x quick travel, 5x minor-exp-boost, 1x inventory modul // preferred: 1x inventory modul, 1x crew skill slot, 1x display titles-unlock, 1x unify colors-unlock).

Enjoyed your voice and your take on swtor. Your right its not that mmo of the mmos which is what got me into it.
You can also talk to companions at the storage area in the fleet.
Best tip I wish I knew from the start: autorun exists! You can change it's keybinding in preferences
Starting to play SWTOR as F2P for the first time in 2022, and I really wish I watched this video before I started! Had to figure out most of this stuff the hard way.
I wish I knew about datacrons and exploration missions and the fact you can get free cartel coins with the security key app
I literally learned about the free cartel coins about 3 hours after I published the video! 😂
It literally tells you on their page....
oh gods, the datacrons. They're worth it, but gods are they painful to have to collect, especially once you hit the expansion ones that take literal hours just to complete.
@@jish55 as a semi new player (more like a player who some years ago stopt playing his lvl 35 sith warrior) what do I get for the datacrons?
@@jish55 They used to be per character. At least now they unlock for all characters on a server so you only have to do them once.
you can talk to the companions on your factions station.
I come back to SWTOR at least once a year since the game launched. I love it....sometimes
@@jedibowen even at latest game don't buy stuff until you're about 300
Even though I always hate it when every dialogue comes chucked after one another, it might be a good tip for others. I just think it kinda destroys the role play and the development of the characters (the one that doesn't really happen, I know. I like to imagine it does)
I clearly recall the TAB cycle through baddies thing being explained in a tutorial but I havent played the game in years
I haven't played this sense it came out. I should give it a try I think. Thanks OP
Jumping back in to play played off and on since 2011
I'll probably always come back from time to time lol
I was 11 when the game was released and I wanted to play it so bad, but I doesn't had the right hardware, bc I was and still am a console child. Now in 2021, I have more then good enough hardware to play the game and I remembered that game, so I downloaded it. It was like a childhood dream came true. :D
i just subscribed yesterday and i love your voice
Unless they changed it, you also get Preferred Status if you purchase Cartel Coins. I bought the cheapest option ($6 at the time) and got Preferred. It made the game so much more playable and for a one time fee it was worth it.
$5 minimum. I think they added a cheaper $2-3 CC option, but that doesn't work.
SO many things EA did wrong (imho!!) in an originally fantastic MMO :(
Once you reach the fleet you can access storage
I cannot recommend this game enough it is an absolute blast to play!
The questing is much better in swtor, all with voice acting. In wow it’s mostly just „here’s a boring wall of text for you to read yourself, bitch!“
Last but not least: extremely huge game content (and ppl who beaching about lack of such -please link me 65k+ achievements and I tend to believe you that the game is already boring to you)
You can talk to followers in any "rest" area
If you haven’t already, you could consider subbing for 1 month to get al expansions up to lvl 75. Even when you unsubscribe your access to all expansions remain👍🏾
I enjoy playing mercs the most 😸👍🏾
Maybe you could make a video doing some heroics or flashpoints 😺
That's a lot of emojis
I can't agree more there subscribing at least one time is the way to go the knights of the fallen empire expansion and beyond are the best things this game has to offer tbh.
The content in this game is amazing. I've played every cut scene except for the new xpac. We have to subscribe again to get that.
Some comments:
1- Becoming a Preferred player only takes a purchase of like $5 from the cash shop (if I remember correctly), and opens up a TON of quality of life improvements not just inventory space.
(if you don't want to use tab)
6- I kind of miss the old customization skill trees the new ones are more of a path instead of a tree.

Oh, one more tip/trick I have done with this game and elder scrolls online......
Stay in the starter area (where the story starts) and grid up to level 10. You'll have a jump on the later enemies in the game that are more difficult.
Hope this helps anyone!
May the force be with you
No that's a waste of time. Do missions normally. Cause you get your companion and they do more damage than you do

tab to target....
if you just simply attack, you will automatically target the closest thing.
