@@arthurpendragon8192 I want to give SWTOR a try for the story only since I enjoyed other Bioware games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age. Do you think I would be fine playing it as a free to play player if the story is all I care about and I have no plans to do PVP content
Heads up, Mako (the first bounty hunter companion) is OP. I tried to duel a player, but neither of us could out dps Mako’s healing (we both had her equipped) so we had to give up.
I have a suggestion for the F2P level 50 gearing. When you complete heroic missions, you are rewarded with lock boxes, which contain gear for your character. These lockboxes go all the way to about level 60, from there you should be working towards picking up legendary gear etc. At level 50, the heroics drop Crystalline Lock Boxes, which has gear with a rating of 132. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it probably has higher stats than level 48 modded gear. Also, blue borderded heroic gear is much better over green bordered gear because it increases the bolster of your stats in PvP and Flashpoints (correct me if I'm wrong). So I would advise F2P players who have hit level 50 to do heroics and pick up this gear. NB The lockboxes also drop relics, earpieces and implants
UPDATES FOR F2P GEAR * Heroics: Heroic quests should give you unmoddable blue gear from lockboxes. These gear pieces can include the unbuyable relics, earpieces and implants, and even the armor pieces may be stronger than the moddable green gear listed above, with a gear rating of 132. (Untested) * Fractured Armor: "I used to be a level 50 F2P player, and the highest rated gear available was the rating 148 blue prototype unmoddable gear, called the Fractured set. It's a big upgrade from the 122 rated green level 48 mods and the 132 rated level 48. They are usually very affordable (well under 200k creds)." - Michael Xu
I played SWTOR a bit back in 2017, but never really got into it. Now I'm joining again with the intent of doing this seriously, and your videos have majorly helped me. May the Force bless you
Excellent video! Some have mentioned that F2P players now have a credit cap of 1000000. A major correction is with the number of active characters available for F2P. Old SWTOR: 2 characters per server, 4 max overall. New SWTOR: 4 Active characters per server, 4 max overall. To use more characters, 1 or more existing characters have to be deactivated. Note also: Characters on other servers do not sync with your Legacy. Not included: There’s 1 slot to create a boosted L60 character. I have not used this option yet. Keep the videos coming!
I started playing 2 weeks ago and I have about 150 hours on the game at the moment and to anyone who's still quite new, don't worry if it doesn't feel like you're progressing a ton, just take in the story and enjoy yourself :))
Regarding f2p characters: I would recommend keeping them all on the same server. This means that once you have used all 4 slots, delete a character to make a new one. Just choose the one you've had enough of. Sell everything on your old toon before you delete it and buy gear you want your new toon to use, then put it to stronghold Legacy Bank. Be sure to buy a 'Speeder piloting' from GTN so your new toon can start getting around faster from L10. Use remaining scraps for comp gifts and such. If you pvp, make sure to spend all pvp currency at proper vendors, and put everything in Legacy Bank. This way you get your legacy to max quick and can get a jumpstart with every new character. Also, if you're interested in completing achievements (I was a diehard achievement hunter..) you'll get a higher completion % if you keep all toons on same server. I used to play this game for years, never subbed, did 99.99% of what you can do as f2p, and had a lot of fun. Get the unlocks first. Like the artifact unlock, quickbar unlocks, inventory extensions. Also you should fill up ur escrow with credits and then carefully use the escrow withdraw cards when u have 200.000 in your inventory. They let you have more then 200k credits available at a time. That was the way i was able to get full darth nihilus gear set as a free to play player years ago, which costed me a few millions and weeks of credits farming. And with the artifact unlock u can pretty much mod those cosmetic items with the mods from purple gear. Btw, i stumbled upon this video just now, haven't played the game in years. Maybe some things have changed :)
Thanks for this. I was really bummed out when I saw all the restriction I'm getting as a FTP player and almost decided to cancel my download of the game until I saw this vid. Free to play players like myself can get a Stronghold. I recommend the Nar Shadda one as you can play Republic or Empire. The legacy bank can be used like a 'deposit' of sorts. Deposit extra credits into the bank but you DO have a withdraw limit. You can keep making credits and kind of circumvent the credit cap.

Hi Swtorista, addressing your pinned comment at the top - I used to be a level 50 F2P player, and the highest rated gear available was the rating 148 blue prototype unmoddable gear, called the Fractured set. I was able to find pieces of this on the GTN. This armor set has different stats and versions for each class, and it is similar to the armor dropped from heroic quests between level 51 and 54, except that they are sold unbound, and equippable by level 50 characters. It's a big upgrade from the 122 rated green level 48 mods and the 132 rated level 48 Crystalline heroic set.
Unfortunately, I actually don't know. The first time I saw a piece of the Fractured set was on another F2P player. I was able to find more items when I searched on the GTN (name: Fractured, Level 50-50, item quality: Prototype). They are usually very affordable (well under 200k creds).
Wow - I've been a preferred Player since the game went free to play and I had NO idea that I could unlock the expansions by subbing for a month - thank you!
There are I think 5 disabled bars in the interface editor, just enable them and decide how many slots and slots per row you want and then drag the bar to where you find it the most accessible
Starting SWTOR in August 2022 as a f2p. Eventually I’ll subscribe as I get more invested but I feel f2p isn’t that punishing. You level pretty fast so until I need to sub, I can stay f2p and save money lol
something they can do to fix F2P is that, if you're preferred, remove a few restrictions, while giving bonuses to subs. Basically, F2P should remain as is, but if you're, say, preferred, then there shouldn't be limited to credits, and be allowed to run unlimited gf ops/fps/wzs. Now, if you're subbed, you get access to all content, and you get unlimited double xp, as well as add more cartel coins to the subs, and unlock all cosmetics. This will get more people to want to sub, keep more players as now they're not limited to end game content, and it'll allow for players to want to do more.
I loved to death when you made an effort to reach lvl 50 and you got loads of tokens to get a free set. That feeling won't ever come back I guess (I really really miss it). BTW, again, I want your pc, makes the game looks great, lol.
Regarding f2p credits: you CAN go over 200k by a LOT. I'm not sure by how much, but it's probably unlimited, like subscriber creds. I discovered this by chance: I didn't play swtor for a few months and when I returned, my characters had a few million EACH. This is what happened: I was always selling stuff on GTN (mostly weekly conquest weapons/holocrons etc, you veterans know what I'm talking about). They sold for about 100-150k each. I then let the 'sold' mails stay in my mailbox. Whenever I needed creds, I just accepted one mail of 150k and was back at near cred cap again. However, mails expire. And when they do, the credits get added to your account directly. About 20 mails containing 150k expired during the months I was away, and upon returning to the game, I had millions. I have always been f2p and hope this find you other f2pers well.
Does NOT seem to work.. hotfixed maybe? Or maybe you have to have not logged in for a certain amount of time for it to trigger (most probably). I have not used a referral code and even if I had, I wouldn't get sub as I'm 100% f2p, not pref.
At last, the Academy is back. And it is more powerfull that it ever was. But seriously, thank you. I'm a FTP player and I am really getting bored in the game but now I'll try these things
more Inventory space: 1. you can deconstruct non-needed green or better items, and sell all non-needed items. 2. you can put your materials into the new crafts material inventory (patch 6.0) 3. you can mail your non-bound to you items to your other characters and back. 4. you can access Cargo Hold at Fleet, later on your spaceship 5. to access your Legacy Storage you need access to a stronghold/guildship, cheapest if you join any guild. No matter how you access it, your Legacy Storage is yours only. 6. It is possible to unlock items as a "collection", see your inventory's collection or hover over your item in your inventory. All collection items can be dragged out any time, so you can even drop/destroy those and get them again from your collections inventory. For some only one is needed to be equipped and its unlocked in collections, some needs a whole set to unlock, for example an outfit of 7 items you need all seven. ((((and once you unlocked something in your collection you can buy at the collection the pssiblity to unlock for all future character, called legacy wide unlock ))) Also many cartel coins may be earned by completing achievements (1000+), and also free mounts and other gifts just google "swtor free stuff" see first few hit.
Keep in mind people this video is 2 years old, so take this with grain of salt and don't be like the 50+ people who disliked this video because the info wasn't 100% accurate.
I am currently level 20 preferred. Playing as vanguard I’ve sucked up to my cat faced companion, he is set on healing, and I am tanking. The game is currently so easy. I never seem to drop below 95% health. The only time I’ve died since lvl 10, was when I tried to get infected by those ghouls. My companion died, and they all swarmed on me, there were about 20 of them and I got ripped to shreds with no healers. So if your playing f2p, I suggest being strategic with companions, and skills. Gear will come through mission rewards. Just don’t be that guy running around in a rainbow suit...
Heehee, rainbow suit. And yep, all low level content is very easy. If you're looking for something harder, at level 60 when you start the fourth and fifth expansion, you can set the difficulty mode :D
Just a heads up, I played, and subscribed, for 2 months at the beginning of the 2019. Then I got side tracked by ESO and didn't play again until just recently in Dec 2019. I was able to use your code and got the title, inventory, and two other unlocks and the 7 day subscription for free. So accounts that have been inactive, even if they used to be subscribed, can use your code.
Even still the way I think about this never changes. This games FTP model is incredibly generous. Play FTP to 50, if you enjoyed that you kinda owe the game a sub at this point. This 1 sub will get you all the expansions + preferred status after the month runs out. Only then should you start considering purchasing stuff with cartel coins and such. During the month sub make a bunch of different species characters so you can permanently unlock them later.
Congrats on showing up on the SWTOR launcher, getting back into the game after many years and saw you there "sponsored" decided to check out some tips, thanks! :D
I an currently free to play and I’m really waiting to beat the game on 4 characters because I currently enjoy it as a free to play player but the game is so good I’ll probably drop the money haha
Holy shiet that voice, caught me off guard. Was expecting a guy tbh. One of the most beautiful voices ive ever heard. Do you sing?. Thanks for the video, ive been thinking of going back to the game for the story as I didnt play much of it. I think I was preffered status but not sure. Will have to check it.
I updated the written guide for 2022! swtorista.com/articles/swtor-free-to-play-tips-f2p/ biggest changes are: First two expansions are free Credit cap is 1 million now (up from 250k) Free-to-play can now run double the amount of warzones an solo space missions, and can get rewards from double the amount of flashpoints from before
The only thing i think is stupid is that there is a credit cap for both f2p and perfered. I'm a perfered and limited to 350k which is dumb cause I would at least like to get cool armor or armor sets that are a million on the gtn then limited to what I'm getting. Which is ok but not the greatest.
I did sub for a mouth though to try it. And wasn't that big of a difference exept i can buy what ever I wanted and have purple gear for my toons. But I don't have the money to do it every month but I will try it again another time though.
I’ve been looking at getting back into SWTOR, left because I genuinely couldn’t handle the F2P restrictions. Still not sure if I should, but thank you for the video!
If you are doing "endgame" stuff like expensive cosmetic stuff, operations or endgame gearing, subscribing is not a huge boon to you and you're probably ok to unsub after your time runs out :) For other players the restrictions are really inhibitiv - ex the credit cap kills my ability to play space barbie :P
Nope! At the end of 2017 I made a general tips video, but I've never done one purely for F2P.. this one took a lot of research and personal experience playing as f2p :)
I kinda wish Devs made an arena or area for us to play against a character of our choice. You know like if I was an Operative and wanted to try and beat a Sentinel or Knight against a Merc, etc Then I could hone my solo skills without running around the map.
Genuinely the "Best tip for Free to Play" players I can give... is Subscribe. You wouldn't believe the amount of times I see "This game is unfair toward F2P" in the Games Comments. "F2P" is like that Free Taster of Drugs a Dealer will offer you.
Ah, you did your homework with Javiik! So there is a method to your madness (get it, madness :p ). Recently found your channel and really enjoying your vids! Thanks for the info!
Also questions I have had since I started playing that I couldn't find an answer for in your videos, some of these I had to muddle about to answer, some others in game were able to answer: 1) How can you adjust the scale of the UI? 2) What happened to the old +15 or -10 companion experience popups that you see in old SWTOR videos? 3) Can you unlock speeder 4 or 5 without using the legacy panel? 4) Why was I able to train speeder 3 in game from my class vendor, yet it also shows as locked in the legacy panel. Speeder 1 and 2 were also provided by the class trainer and auto-unlocked in the legacy benefits. 5) If I am still playing "Kotor 3" and do not want to dive into the greater MMO aspects of the game yet, how can I improve my gear at 70 past the level 65 mods vendor, without using the GTN? 6) Should I save or open these "Command-1" loot boxes I get with each command level right away? 7) Why does light side tend to win far more often than the dark side on the light/dark balance thing you see on the starmap? 8) Are there any good 3rd party resources left for SWTOR? Something akin for SWTOR as what Wowhead does for WoW? 9) What is a Legendary Player? 10) Is there a concise guide to the path players should follow to see all of the main story without missing anything important? 11) When you pay Cartel Coins to unlock an appearance on all toons, like a light saber crystal, is that a one time payment for ALL cosmetic items or only that one item? 12) How can you earn cartel coins? Is there a way through playing the game to get them? In some of your videos we can see that you have had or currently have upwards of 180,000 cartel coins. How did you get so many? Like I said, I have had these answered (cept for how did you get so many cartel coins) in some form or fashion already. I do want to add you as a friend in game so I can use you as a reference if I have future questions. :P Not too many people want to answer questions and just reference google instead. 99% of google results are, on average, 5 years out of date.
Here is a question, what is the purpose of the "magnifier" on the map? Also are there any good ways to determine if you have done all the one time only quests on a world?
Not really the most important thing when talking about MMOs, but WoW has kind of spoiled me with transmog and character aesthetics. In short, can I keep a look of a certain set of armor and weapons I like to always look like a badass and not like an anime character who stepped on a landmine in a thrift shop? INQUIRING MINDS NEED TO KNOW.

I just started this game. Currently lv 14 now. So far it's not bad on ftp. On the east coast servers
Welcome to the game :)
Returning player and I just found your videos. You do a great job and they have been a great help. Well done!
Cheers!
something they can do to fix F2P is that, if you're preferred, remove a few restrictions, while giving bonuses to subs.
The launch of the game is always the best time in its history :)
I find your voice more comfortable than I should...
Don't get me wrong, it's really nice.
so im here cause i watched your "should you play swtor?" vid lol. if you couldnt tell the answer was yes. thanks for the tips!
Haha! Welcome to the game!
@@Swtorista thanks! Didn't expect a response :D digging it so far
LONG TIME NO VIDEO SWTORISTA! Missed all the tips and wonder of swtor!
+Hendrick Lamar wow! I'll have to test this one out for myself. I'm surprised the credits go to your credits and not escrow when the mail expires.
Just sold a chance cube for 1.5mill+, will let you know in a month if the strategy still works :)
Does it work? ;_;
Does NOT seem to work.. hotfixed maybe? Or maybe you have to have not logged in for a certain amount of time for it to trigger (most probably).
I have not used a referral code and even if I had, I wouldn't get sub as I'm 100% f2p, not pref.
Thank you for making this video 🙏🏻
cheers!
Missed you swotorista! Please keep providing content!!!
Fantastic new video! Sweet to see a new upload and good timing because I'm having some friends try out this game! Awesome! :D
At last, the Academy is back. And it is more powerfull that it ever was. But seriously, thank you. I'm a FTP player and I am really getting bored in the game but now I'll try these things
Cheers!
more Inventory space:
1. you can deconstruct non-needed green or better items, and sell all non-needed items.
2. you can put your materials into the new crafts material inventory (patch 6.0)
3. you can mail your non-bound to you items to your other characters and back.
4. you can access Cargo Hold at Fleet, later on your spaceship
5. to access your Legacy Storage you need access to a stronghold/guildship, cheapest if you join any guild. No matter how you access it, your Legacy Storage is yours only.
6. It is possible to unlock items as a "collection", see your inventory's collection or hover over your item in your inventory. All collection items can be dragged out any time,
so you can even drop/destroy those and get them again from your collections inventory. For some only one is needed to be equipped and its unlocked in collections, some needs
a whole set to unlock, for example an outfit of 7 items you need all seven. ((((and once you unlocked something in your collection you can buy at the collection the pssiblity to unlock for all future character, called legacy wide unlock )))
Also many cartel coins may be earned by completing achievements (1000+), and also free mounts and other gifts just google "swtor free stuff" see first few hit.
Wow great tips!
Always appreciate your videos.... Thank You
Awesome! A new video! I'm glad to see that you're back! (:
only reason i dont have subscription is is bcus i dont have a credit card lmao. i litterally cant pay.
Surprised no one commented sooner, but you can buy subscription cards from places like Wal-Mart. So, yeah.
@@BooserBoi What do you do when your country doesn't have Wal-Marts?
@@zeffonian umm.. pay a friend to buy you a card off amazon?
@@theantknight6132 what do you do when you dont have friends 😭😭
@@zeffonian I'm still trying to figure that one out
Keep in mind people this video is 2 years old, so take this with grain of salt and don't be like the 50+ people who disliked this video because the info wasn't 100% accurate.
Welcome Back @Swtorista :)
Finally ran into one of your videos again. It's good to hear your tutorials again. Ive been sub'd just fyi.
Nice! Glad it worked for you
At least theyre gonna change quite a lot of thing for f2p and preffered players, like increasing the cap to 1m for both
HAPPY NEW YEAR HUN!!! Welcome back!!! I have missed you bunches!!! Hugsz!!
Happy 2018 Steven!
Yep!
A 173k subscriber channel putting out 2 million subscribers level content

Great video. As a new player, i want to thank you for sharing your knowlege :)
Welcome to the game! :)
Congrats on showing up on the SWTOR launcher, getting back into the game after many years and saw you there "sponsored" decided to check out some tips, thanks! :D
thanks! That was a pretty cool surprise
I an currently free to play and I’m really waiting to beat the game on 4 characters because I currently enjoy it as a free to play player but the game is so good I’ll probably drop the money haha
Yay! You are back!
This was so helpful, your voice is really soothing
Just started and I am bit confused so this came perfect time thanks :)
Great timing :D You might find the other video "Tips for New SWTOR Players" more useful, this one is for players really digging in to Free to play :)
Swtorista okey thanks :)
Would love a refresh on this for 2022/2023 to see if it's any different
I updated the written guide for 2022! swtorista.com/articles/swtor-free-to-play-tips-f2p/
biggest changes are:
First two expansions are free
Credit cap is 1 million now (up from 250k)
Free-to-play can now run double the amount of warzones an solo space missions, and can get rewards from double the amount of flashpoints from before
The only thing i think is stupid is that there is a credit cap for both f2p and perfered. I'm a perfered and limited to 350k which is dumb cause I would at least like to get cool armor or armor sets that are a million on the gtn then limited to what I'm getting. Which is ok but not the greatest.
I assume it's to encourage people to subscribe. When I did 6 months as preferred it was my biggest issue in the game.
Yeah probably
I did sub for a mouth though to try it. And wasn't that big of a difference exept i can buy what ever I wanted and have purple gear for my toons. But I don't have the money to do it every month but I will try it again another time though.
Yay your back I subbed to you while you were on your on your holiday break
another tip would be to buy cheap armor sets, some are really nice like the casual vandal
You are back!!!
You're back!
New video! Yay~
I'm a sub in SWTOR, but I'm watching this anyway cuz I like your voice :3
Excellent video! I will be watching more of them this weekend :-)
I’ve been looking at getting back into SWTOR, left because I genuinely couldn’t handle the F2P restrictions. Still not sure if I should, but thank you for the video!
Cheers, hope it helps you decide 👍
So helpful and informative! Amazing video!
Hi its been a long time since you posted or am I being left out by youtube notifications . Your tip are helpful as always. Have Fun :D
I was away for work for a couple months :) Cheers!
I just purchased a 60 day subscription, but honestly can’t notice the difference besides the expansions.
Missed your gorgeous voice
Nope! At the end of 2017 I made a general tips video, but I've never done one purely for F2P.. this one took a lot of research and personal experience playing as f2p :)
Swtorista must have confused the two. Great video. Tons of useful tips that I'm definitely recommending for a friend (I'm already subbed myself 😅)
Her voice is very soothing
I kinda wish Devs made an arena or area for us to play against a character of our choice. You know like if I was an Operative and wanted to try and beat a Sentinel or Knight against a Merc, etc Then I could hone my solo skills without running around the map.
That would be neat. Something kind of similar is the Eternal Championship.
I really wanted to see "how bad" it was to play free-to-play - I learned a lot while playing him :D
Lol yea, I had to resub after a long break. I couldn't take the f2p limits! Looking forward to some serious decorating next! )
can you make a video for preferred players? things to collect and to at 60, like mounts, achis or reputations, cosmetic armor sets, toys etc.
Hey! I don't have any lists like that sorry. Stuff to do at 60. Maybe somewhere way down the line, great idea!
Welcome back!
Awesome! Swtorista and The Academy is finally back, I really missed you and your videos :)
Very helpful thanks!!
Your never gonna see this but in case you do, I'm another person who thinks you are incredibly helpful and awesome!
swtorista is back :-)
Welcome back Swtorista I hope you had a good break :D
I love this game so much. And your videos are super helpful
So questions for Swtorista: 1) what server do you and your guild play on? 2) Jedi or Sith?
1) I'm on Star forge. 2) Both me and my guild play on both sides these days.
Ah, what is the name of your Sith guild?
Also questions I have had since I started playing that I couldn't find an answer for in your videos, some of these I had to muddle about to answer, some others in game were able to answer:
1) How can you adjust the scale of the UI?
Also are there any good ways to determine if you have done all the one time only quests on a world?
f2p at launch and just came back, not sure if this guide still applies but i feel i can trust it to make an unlocks plan. Thanks!
welcome back! The only real difference is the new credit cap is 1 mill.
Yes!! It is called the Outfit Designer in SWTOR.
