I will say that as a primary solo player who occasionally does the odd verteran flashpoint with friends, this gearing system feels like the least rewarding systems with a VERY unpleasant grind. At this point, I'm really only playing to complete my season then maybe knock around on a few alts. Since I honestly "don't need" the higher gear, then I'll just hit max level, get my 320 gear and be done with it. Very unhappy with what they've done to gearing this "expansion."

If you're only doing solo content and vet fps, you're fine.
But yes I agree the gearing system is overly complicated. But more so for people doing all content. People just doing solo don't really have anything to worry about. Just have fun and don't think about about this crypto currency madness style of gearing.

@@HiddenPalm ... but it isn't fun, MMO's work according to a carrot and stick system... but this time there is no carrot. There is no gear, there is no goal, there is no reason to play the content we've basically played for the last 10 years ... over and over ...
No solo player is 'worried' about the gear, because it is completely irrelevant, but that also means there is no reason to play the game in the first place.

@@rhaycen4122 I'm confused. Maybe were miscommunicating.
If youre a solo mode only player that means you haven't done any of the endgame. Or any warzones. Or any Galactic Starfighter. Or any flashpoints with the actual as intended mechanics, same for Uprisings. Or any Open world PVP. Or any of the Operations. Not even the story mode Operations.
A solo content only player hasn't done any of this stuff, which to me is the majority of the game. I would be bored out of my mind too in an massive Multiplayer Online environment if I restricted myself only doing the solo content.
I'm not judging you. You should play however you feel like playing. But don't tell yourself you've been doing the same thing for ten years if you haven't done the main content of an MMO. It's an MMORPG not an RPG.

However, I’m not liking the fact that I have to stop wearing my modifiable armor and go back to armor with stats again just to upgrade my armor rating. With the exception of tank gear, you're right. It's stats are tilted to power and mastery BUT the stat balance overall, as purple 326, is superior still. The only gear worth augmenting is 326 pvp before NiM ops. Augments fix all inequities, and NiM ops drops are bis.
But in truth, there's no point to gearing at all unless a person is doing warzones. All non veteran and NiM Ops content is comfortably doable in augmented conquest 326.
I just have a hangup wearing greens at max level. Bothers me.

While confusing at first as a returning player, now that i have my main in 326 Purple Thyrsian gear, it's really nice to gear alts quickly. I don't really have a guild that does operations as i just returned to the game, but I've been able to get all my Master Mode Flashpoint weeklies done each week, and you can use that 326 gear on alts. I logged back on when the expansion released and everyone is taking a break from the game, they didn't like how grindy and micromanaged the game has become. With other games like eldin ring, escape from tarkov, swotr has become more of a paid second job. TDLR version of what I did (simplified): buy 320 gear once you hit level 80. Then farm the gsf weeklies every week until you get to 326 (make this faster by also upgrading the conquest gear before 326). If done on multiple characters and with smart switching of gear, time required is drastically reduced. You can also just use currencies to upgrade pieces if you can't bother to only improve the irating from boxes. Upgrading pvp gear is surprisingly easy.
So at the end of the game, at least getting to 326 purple (with 330 legendary implants) is very doable for solo players (gsf is very 'light' pvp, as you still progress the weekly even if you lose the match)

I will add, for those like me, people who have had the game since the beginning playing on and off since, 7.0 was a bit confusing. I appreciate the time you put into videos, without I’d probably go mad. Simple things like class quests and figuring out where you are can be rough. I have a Sith Assassin/Sorcerer who just completed chapter 3 in the class quest. It seems that is the only character who has completed their class quests. Even the one level 80 I have hasn’t completed the class quests.
My level 80 has 10 or more companions, but the Sith only had 3 companions for the longest time. So color me confused.
I also don’t get some of the rotations I have found around the web, but it made it more confusing.

Do I "need" optimized mod-able gear to functionally complete the content I usually do these days? No.
What I do need is a reason to keep paying for SWTOR. What does 7.0 have? New storyline; minimal. New GSF scenarios; no. New PvP; no. New crafting; no. New race; no. New class; no. Performance improvements that could make open world PvP enjoyable; no. They didn't even release the much ballyhooed new operation, the only one of the items I listed so far that I have no interest in, but still somehow; no.

I can do all past content with the 320 gear you basically obtain on day 1 after you hit level 80. Since to get to 80 you do what little current content there is, with mostly 306 gear on, there is absolutely no _need_ to get anything beyond that 320 gear as a mostly solo player. So except for getting to level 100 for season 2, I'll unsubscribe one I hit 100 and I'll come back in 2 years orso when maybe there is enough new content to keep me entertained for more than 2 hours.

How does someone who does only solo content even know about SWTORista?
Anyhow, you are missing out on some really cool and fun mechanics in Veteran Operations and Master mode flashpoints. I feel like those modes are the actual way that content was made to be played as intended. And Galactic Starfighter is extremely fun. It takes about a week or two of dedicated GSF playing to get the hang of it. And if you play Warzones as an objective hunter really increases your chances of winning. And the experience and feeling you get from out thinking players in it is just as exciting as winning a really challenging Chess match.
Just have fun challenging yourself, reading class guides, studying your ability tree and coming up with creative ways to use the set bonuses from your Legendary Implants. You'll find the gear upgrades come naturally without even worrying about it. Don't rush or focus on hear upgrades. Just have fun, but challenge your self. Every week try to learn something new.

This gearing system is incredibly grindy and unrewarding not to mention complicated. I'm sure casual players have hours to spend on plotting out and figuring out ways to get cool stuff. And the fact that good gear isn't necessary doesn't mean anything - what is the point of playing? There is no new content at all, only new gear or rather new ways of getting new gear. Everything being normalised only means that you need to grind match your performance before 7.0. The only reason I play at all is the galactic season and that's just sad.

  • @Dizzyruptor

I have 8 alts all in the best gear pre 7.0 but since going through the ridiculously bad so called "expansion" I have only had the patience to bother to gear up one to any decent level and since then I have not bothered to log in for almost 2 weeks now. The gearing system is terrible, the UI horrific. I don't think this game is worth my subscription money anymore and I say this as someone who has been playing for the last 10 years.
It's tragic but if this is the level of effort BW puts in these days then it might be time to hang up my sabers, at least for a while in the hope they fix things but I don't hold out much hope.

Is there a qualifier on effort vs reward in the solo track? How much more effective is each level of gear? Hmm, I don't even know how you'd choose the qualifier? Time taken to take down a mob of 4 silver elite? Well, if there is a way, I know you can do it.
Is the result of the grind gong to be noticeable to a solo player, is my real question.
My impression is that a lot of solo players are not grinders.
Also, what about the treasurehunting mission boxes. Do they still drop level-appropriate gear? That might be a source of currency when/if you crunch it.

Thank you for explaining how different tiers of gearing work. Can you clarify something for me to make sure I understand it correctly? Let's say I choose to grind only 1 tier of gear to its max, let's say by grinding VM Flashpoints to get its max gear possible "Green Elite Decurion of IR 324." Then, I switch from playing VM Flashpoints to VM Operations so does it mean next piece of gear dropped from VM Ops will be "Blue Columi IR 324?"Basically equivalent item rating of what I already had equipped. So then if I continue grinding VM Ops, I will progress from "Columi 324 > Columi 326" (max gear possible at VM Ops tier), right? And finally with that VM Ops gear, go into MM Ops, where next item dropped will be "Rakata 324 Purple gear", which I can grind from IR 324 > all the way to IR 330. Do I understand that progression correctly?

Presumably 320 will have higher stat values than 306.. but since we lost mods, you can't put points where they are needed so 306 may very well be better if correctly tailored relative to 320 with set stats you can't adjust. Then there's the level sync mess which nerfs the crap out of all of our stats completely removing incentive to gear up for most content. On top of that, the level sync doesn't even scale in any predictable manner so you'd have to adjust your stats for every planet to get the percentages where they should be again.
Besides that, I think some people misunderstood one of the Dev blog posts that said 316=306 or something along those lines, but I'm pretty sure they meant adjusted for the new level 80 and rebalanced gear, not that 316 was literally the same as 306, but rather 316 on a level 80 was = 306 on a level 75 (when 75 was still max level).

Does pvp gear in this game have the same secondary attribute types as pve gear? Or does it roll with some kind of weird pvp only stat like some other games?

    • @Swtorista

      Nope no special stat!
In the past it used to though.

Pvp gear has less endurance than decurion gear and more mastery/power - alacrity/accuracy are the same on the same pieces respectively

what nightmare the gearing system has become, and having too regear your character totally again because of the second playstyle you choose is for me the biggest reason to stop playing

6.0 - Equip whatever has higher item rating, in other words, equip whatever has an up arrow.
7.0 - Get a masters degree, watch 1 hour guides, read 3 books to understand how it works.
    Yea Bioware, you failed.

Swtorista: You can see how far up your conquest level is out of the 100,000 a week by going here.
Me: *Checks.* 635,000 of 100,000. Well okay then. I guess I've done waaaaay too much this week. :P If only all that rolled over and applied the following week, I could take 6 weeks off and not do anything.
