I love how gracious and polite you are with each other, and with people in general. My husband and I are still that way after 40 years. It never gets old (even if we have).
You and Crystal are two of the healthiest looking people I've ever seen....and you have a great vibe together. Love your idea of tahini and balsamic glaze for a quick dressing and can't wait to try your newest tofu recipe!
Yes we are lucky to be able to go mid week and mid day! It's only $20 CAD per person which I feel is a good deal, especially when this empty. They give lots of help too which is amazing.
I've been smiling the whole time of the video, you both totally spread good vibes, especially the part with the morning stretches is so fun, you are a very cute couple (and the kitties are adorable!)
Derrick. You are a sweetheart. In all of your vids you come off as kind and respectful. I’m sure you are a kind human. And your recipes are terrific to boot!! I hope you have 1 M subscribers soon.
Derek, you are so inspirational and humble. I truly appreciate you and the motivation you give me and I bet many many others to continue enjoying a plant based diet and stay fit. 💕
your videos are like a digital resting place! the bond between you and Crystal always puts a smile on my face. your recipes are amazing, but the beautiful energy here is even better!
SOOOO love videos like this! Chinese 5 Spice: anise seed, fennel, cinnamon, black pepper, cloves. Also, that Nona's Balsamic Glaze? Dude! That stuff is the bomb! I always drizzle the tiniest amount (a little goes a long way!) on my salads and it totally takes them to another level! So good to see you two. You're both looking so healthy and happy! xo
I love seeing y'all together!! You both compliment each other well. Thank you for sharing your stories, adventures, lives and especially your recipes!! You're both so inspiring to me to eat a healthier diet 💖 Do you have a physical copy of your recipe book available? I'd love to gift them to friends and family!
Always love seeing your cooking of course, and it was nice seeing you and Crystal go to the jump place and the cafe too! Always love your nature clips as well, which I'm sure we'll see more of this summer :) Thank you for sharing!
You promised me skate clips over a year ago in a comment, and today you delivered! Back D like it was nothing!! We need more! You embody the new age skate mentality: health and fitness, not partying and drugs. Good stuff my man :)
Haha, I remember you asking. This was honestly the very first time I stepped on a board in a looong time. I want to get back on that mini ramp. They are supposed to be building a new skatepark in the town over, so maybe I'll start hitting that up more when it's built. Thanks man!
Five spice is a blend of star anise, cloves, cinnamon, Sichuan peppercorns and fennel seeds. Thank you, Derek and Crystal. I love all your videos, guys.
I'm literally having a Cara-Cara orange as I watch this! 😄 I agree they really are the best! Its as if an orange and a grapefruit had a love baby. I like your little rhyme too! 😆
Hey Derek :)! I just wanna let you know that I really really appreciate your videos :) Incorporating more and more of your meals make me feel so amazing and happy, thanks. Have a great day
I always enjoy your videos a lot. A few comments: I had never heard of fava-bean tofu, but I did a search and found the maker - Big Mountain - and learned that they also make a *smoked* fava-bean tofu. I'm getting some of each. On their website, they note that fava-bean tofu contains substantially more protein than soybean tofu. - Also, I've been eating tofu more lately because I got a tofu press for my birthday. I have always used stacking heavy things on tofu to press it - heavy skillet, or a dish with cans of food as weights or whatever. I find the tofu press (I got a TofuBud tofu press) *much* better: takes up less room, does a better job, can pop it into the refrigerator to press overnight, etc. I like it a lot. - One trick to get tofu to take up marinade better: freeze the tofu. After thawing in the fridge, squeeze it gently over the sink and the water gushes out of it. It then will soak up marinade like a sponge. - One nice thing about a plant-based diet: you can use leftover marinade as a sauce, as you did. That would be a very bad idea if you had been marinating chicken or pork or beef.... - I always refrigerate potatoes after I roast them because that makes the starch resistant (so that it acts as dietary fiber and is not quickly digested, something important for us diabetics and not a bad idea for others). Even better, I have been fermenting (raw) potatoes - they are 100% resistant starch: zero net carbs. - Have you tried purple potatoes (purple flesh, not just skin)? Much more nutritious than white or yellow potatoes. We have Stokes Purple® in stores here. They tend to be long and skinny, and after they've chilled, I eat them as finger food. They're sweet and occupy the same snack niche as bananas (but *much* more nutritious - try them on your peanut-butter and toast thing :).
Thank you! Very informative! I didn’t see Derek press the tofu; wonder if I missed it. I sometimes freeze mine as you mentioned. Press, freeze, press. That might be overkill, lol. Purple potatoes are amazing. Will have to try them chilled as you mentioned. Cheers!
@@heidikamrath1951 He didn't press it - just squeezed it a bit in the marinade. I just mentioned pressing because I'm so proud of my TofuBud and enjoy using it. :) However, when I freeze tofu, I don't press it first. I think the water in it, expanding as it freezes, makes the tofu more sponge-like once thawed - thus the water gushing out under slight pressure and (presumably) the marinade then gushing in to fill those spaces. - This video on purple potatoes will be of interest: youtu. be/FzZ3DaqpYCw (remove the space that follows "youtu.")
Loved watching the trampoline fun! Will have to try that orange ginger marindade - looks good and so easy. Watermelon radish is a kind of daikon radish. Not hybrid, it's an heirloom variety. They are so pretty in a salad!
You two are so cute together. Thanks for making your videos. It's fun to see you both now going out and making videos of things you are doing aka setting a good example of "healthy lifestyle" changes people can do together. Keep it up! Oh my word, after you said the radish was crossed with a watermelon, I literally said out loud "no way" thinking that was so cool/weird, then you continued and I just had to laugh.
I love how you two compliment amd support one another. It is genuine and the two of you work so well together. I am definitely impressed bynthe slip jump.
