Back in the 1980’s, the Tennessee Theater, on Gay Street in Knoxville- a gorgeous theater, showed Gone With The Wind. My best friend and I had never seen it so we took my grandma, who was visiting at the time, and drove downtown to watch the movie in a setting befitting a classic film. Butterfly McQueen was there. She addressed the audience and answered a few questions. I remember she stressed the racism of the book, the film, and the time during which it was made. And, of course, she was right: The film, though a fabulous and beautiful film, is racist and the book, though I love the book, is even worse. I have wondered, while reading the book, if Margaret Mitchell had lived if it might have been revealed that one of the reasons for writing the book was to shove that explicit racism in people’s faces as a form of protest to get an anti racism movement started. Or, maybe she was really just a racist Southerner; a woman of her time. Any way, Butterfly McQueen was sharp as a tack and completely different from the role she acted so brilliantly, perhaps too brilliantly, in the film. Again, great job on this video!
Learning that someone as famous as Butterfly McQueen donated her body to science for the continuing advancement of medicine is a humble moment. We first saw her as a 26 year old 'Prissy' in Gone With The Wind, and again 50 years later with a guest spot in a River Phienix/Harrison Ford film "The Mosquito Coast". The sweet part? She hadn't changed in appearance. Still had pretty skin and round and high cheekbones, still squeaky Prissy. I hope her passing was as pain-free as possible. Thanks for your research and efforts on Ms. McQueen. You are appreciated! ❤✌🌮
Sadly, that is not always the case. My aunt did the same. They use them for many things like blowing them up for research, etc. They just do. You don’t know what they will do with your body.

I visit my parent's grave pretty frequently. I put stones on it the last time I was there. Got the idea here. It's always a great tribute and I was thinking of the great respect you should show to people's memory while I was at the cemetery today.

My mom and dad both donated their bodies to science to EMORY UNIVERSITY here in Atlanta. Dad died in 1987 and mom thought that was it and really so did dad. To moms surprise almost 2 years later, mom received a call stating she could pick up his ashes. She ki da freaked out. My husband, God rest his soul, drove over to EMORY to pick dads ashes up.
Thank you for paying homage to her and showing her final resting place and home. It would be nice if the university put some sort of plaque up commemorating her.

Well maybe they were too poor, maybe the property had liens on it and they had no money to bury her, there are reasons why maybe.
