It amazes me how these machines are now considered vintage (time flies too fast sometimes). My version of vintage was the old 1968 Chicago Coin Playtime pinball machine my dad had during my childhood in the mid 80s. By the 90s, I was a teenager and would regularly visit the arcades, but by that point I was already hooked on video games, so all the amazing pinballs never got my full attention. The closest I'll probably get to any of these amazing mechanical marvels is my virtual pinball machine I built recently. It's an adequate substitute, but boy do I want to get a few of these mechanical machines from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. One from each decade will do for me!
Good memories playing this table as a kid while my mom was grocery shopping. I remember it being as worn as this table, and that was over 20 years ago!
In Clemson, there’s a bar called “Nick’s”. Back in the late 80’s, we played the heck out of an old “Paragon” wide-body. Dr. Wagner was tired of having it fixed, plus we could pretty much rack up free games all day on it. So he bought us a brand-new “The Machine - BOP” round about ‘90 or ‘91. Blew us all away. I played the heck out of that games while I was there for grad school. I read recently that they finally had to retire it, just couldn’t keep it fixed economically. I wonder what they’re playing at Nick’s now?
Good day Ron 👋. I like the way you checked everything over, found a couple of faults but didn't make the guy feel like he'd done a bunch of stuff badly, unlike how some people pick holes in every damn thing YOU do, pick holes in how you talk, paint etc. By the way, you did an awesome job painting the flight 2000 👍
Yeah I hate when people talk bad about other repair guys, I try not to do it, they were doing the best they could under the circumstances we all are better and worse at certain things. Thanks for watching Mike!
They make black cabinet art for bride, instead of purple. Just found that out yesterday. I just converted mine to LED last week and it is definitely worth it. So many colors on this machine. Also the heat was insane before LEDs. My pf inserts were all popping out, luckily not cupped or worn. Heat gun and piece of wood pushed em right back.
I used to love working on this one back when my arcade had pinball machines. The other top fav's would be "Funhouse" and "Twilight Zone". About 30 years ago I took a job as just an arcade attendant. With my basic electronic background and mechanical background.. I nailed a manager/tech job in a few months and shipped out to Albany, NY to run my own store! I love doing pinball repair. Sadly most arcades no longer have pinball's. Most of the 'techs' get lost in the 'matrix'.... (Those that work on these games will get the reference.) Have a super New Years!
from your background you probably could build a virtual pinball machine with exciters, solenoids, and so on . seem like virtual pinball is getting really big . i like virtual pinball but nothing beat a real pinball machine but it is nice to have one pinball machine with few hounded pinball games
pinball machine popularity has come back in a big way the last 10 years. there is a local pool hall that has removed half their pool tables and now has 87 pinball machines. i did say 87. so many great titles there, the owner is a big time pin head. he has attack from mars, mid-evil madness, bride of pinbot, funhouse, black knight 2k, circus voltare, terminator 2, star trek NG, ripley's believe it or not, dialed in, no good goofers too much to list. he also offers repair services. i have an apollo 13 with a board that's acting up and he's going to fix it for me. he said under $100..... im very happy with that. he probably has close to a dozen customer machines he is working on right now.
Joe - one upgrade to the power board (yes, I know another shop did the work on it) is the ezSBC LM323k replacement voltage regulator. It's a digital regulator, so it emits very little heat, and it produces a much more stable +5vdc. Also works great on Skee-Ball CPUs.
i have a bride of pinbot in my collection. it's a fantastic pin, i love that game. actually my "bride" asked me to find her one, so i did. we have had it probably close to 10 years now. also in my collection i have a 1980 firepower, 1986 high speed, 1988 jokerz, and a 1995 sega apollo 13. i put LEDs in ALL my games, including firepower. several reasons why i did this. 1. they typically last much, much longer. change them once and your usually done 2. less (or probably almost no) heat. heat destroys backglasses, translights, playfeild plastics, and GI connectors. i really hate the damage the heat causes. i had to replace the backglass for firepower and the translight on high speed. they were in really really bad shape. 3. i actually like the way it looks. nice bright uniform lighting on the playfeild. i have always gone with LED's that werent excessively bright, but the lighting is more uniform. the LED's usually mean you can avoid ruining things. i look at these games as timeless artwork, and i do what i can to preserve them. i bought the backglass and translight close to 10 years ago but i have over $500 into those 2 items. i installed a LED DMD in my apollo 13, and if the other displays fail over time, i will replace them with LED displays.
Very classic pinball game. I never liked it much though, probably because by the time it came out I had a job and was adulting, so not much time for games. Most of my money went to Black Knight and later on F-14 Tomcat anyways. Thanks for sharing! I really enjoy watching the process of restoration and repair, and a trip down Nostalgia Lane...
This is a nice machine. I kind of want to go back and watch one of your Pinbot ones through and then watch this one through, just to see it all in sequence :). Such a nice looking machine for its age though.
Funny that Williams only made 2 high production WPC Alphanumeric machines, and you have both of them there! BOP and Funhouse are some awesome machines!
Nice video as usual! Looking forward to seeing the rest of this project. 29:55 - with NVRAM you lose the clock and thereby a fun feature: The birthdays of the developers are stored in the game and the machine plays a happy birthday tune and shows a message on the respective days (but this needs the clock to work, obviously). Also, it is normal that the head spins a couple times during startup until it finds its home position. The game can only "identify" face 4 by a switch on the head box; all other positions need to be derived from that. The cabinet art is really pale as you can tell by the heart around the start button which should be red. Maybe consider using the "BOP 2.0" style decals that I personally think look so much cooler than the original ones. Cheers.
I suspect the issue may be one of several things. 1) The position sensor that determines which face is being shown and relays the information to the CPU is not working properly or is incorrectly aligned leading to the motor being in a loop and not stopping. 2) There could be a Problem with the motor control circuits. 3) I wonder if there could be a switch stuck on that is causing this.
There we go. I had been waiting to see this one after taking a close look at it when you had it in pieces. It will be interesting to see how she turns out.
I've played Pinbot many times, many places, somehow I've never run across the bride of pinbot. I'm a big fan of LEDs, especially the colored ones. I have an Aztec EM. The letters in AZTEC were all white. What was the manufacturer thinking? I put red LEDs in all the A's, blue in the Z's, etc. When you light up all the letters in AZTEC the machine looks fantastic!
if i could afford it, i would have bought this one, rough its 2k here, working condition depends on the condition its from 5k-10k here. i grew up with this one, local after school program had one

I would keep the LEDs out of the flashers and the headdress. They won't look right with them. The most complex playfield feature Williams ever developed was the robotic glove in Johnny Mnemonic. I would imagine that was easily a $10,000 pinball back in 1995 just due to that.
And happy new year on January 1 2022.. To Ron Joe and everyone in the comment section.. Fingers crossed for 2022 not being a train wreck.. And everyone gets everything they want..
Typically on WPC, a coil won't lock up unless the driver has already failed, as that's what usually causes the lockup. If the proper fuses are in place (3a SB for most coils) a locked coil will blow the fuse long before the PCB burns.
Actually, just got to that place in the video. Yes, absolutely, if a coil locked up and melted (so it's dead shorted) it will absolutely destroy the driver that controls it, when a fixed board is reinstalled.
@@jasn2031 it's a slow-blo fuse. The expectation from the manufacturer was part of the repair on the part of the technician (remember these were designed for commercial use) would be to fix the failure, then fix the PCB.
Two reasons ... one it's 6.3vac (so you need a triac to switch it) ... two the CPU needs to be able to control the GI, and the easiest way to do that is with a triac ... One really cool thing WPC does (pioneered on BOP) is duty cycle the GI lamps to achieve 7 levels of brightness. It does this by detecting the "zero cycle" point of the AC power supply, and cutting the triac on/off as needed to achieve the desired brightness level.

@@waynegram8907 the Triac drives originate in U1 on the power driver, with T0 through T4 driving the 5 triacs, and T7 driving the flipper enable relay.
why would the light baffles for the legs (back glass display)have cracks in them❓ they don't sit on anything do they❓❓❓ GUESS it gets warm, so many lamps❓❓
Around 22:20 or so you mention that the capacitor is non-polarized but the symbol is a polarized one. Two straight lines indicates a non-polarized cap. A straight line (negative side) and a curved line (positive) indicate the polarity. I just wouldn't want to see you make popcorn with a cap in backwards or worse with a large cap. But yes the Switch doesn't care about polarity.
If just like to ask how much would this machine co st the operator to buy no in the day and is it worth more money now as a collector's item sadly I never seen 1 over here in he UK in the flesh love your channel is put new power supplys in the old 1s try the boards lol
On System 11 using LEDs for GI and replacing the plasma displays takes a chunk of load off the power supply and stress off the wiring etc. I would assume this is also the case with WPC. Also… (Not directed at you Ron) but when y’all rebuild flippers replace the bushings, it’s a two dollar part!
I have to ask.. What was the video you first mentioned python Angelo.. I'm thinking it's an EM machine.. I can't remember correctly.. But on the back glass it showed a snake character.. and somehow connecting to python Angelo.. Did he do the artwork for em machines? Or was it too early? On the timeline.
Some of thease as a plastic shuttle on the left-hand ramp its missing off this 1 think Williams made 8000 over there in the States could you put a New playground on it and how would you do it surely the artwork is far to old now to get a new overlay

The capacitor is non-polarized
I assume he discovered you after he sent out the boards, since I've seen you repair a bunch of boards.
Yes he had just got them back in when he got in touch with us to see if we'd work on it, we could have fixed them up for him
Yay! Love my Bride💜
I miss mine😪
Another Pinball video people..awesome!!!
LETS DO THIS
The playfield looks kinda creepy
Python Angelo has been accused of that before :)
You sound like you’ve got it all figured out and you’re angry about it
I have to ask..
What was the video you first mentioned python Angelo..
I'm thinking it's an EM machine..
I can't remember correctly..
But on the back glass it showed a snake character.. and somehow connecting to python Angelo..
Did he do the artwork for em machines?
Or was it too early? On the timeline.
Bride of pinbot almost lives..
But that grinding or extra noise
Not quite.
Happy New Years Ron.
Thinking jubilee? If that's correct..
hi like your video
Thank you Joe!
Happy New Year, Joe
Happy new Year Desuk!
I honestly think this was released. that's when python Angelo was part of Capcom pinball division?
Not 100% sure.
Thumbs up! =)
Thank you OnefoYo

Some of thease as a plastic shuttle on the left-hand ramp its missing off this 1 think Williams made 8000 over there in the States could you put a New playground on it and how would you do it surely the artwork is far to old now to get a new overlay
They only made 8100 BOPs.
