@@YourBestFriendreally it is to prevent leaks and such so it actually happens more often then you think. some voice actors didn’t even know exactly what game they were in for awhile (this was an issue that was part of the actors guild strike negotiations) and like I said here the devs said they really didn’t want the character to sound like a snake so they just gave her the lines and let her do the character and made it viper. I mean they know what voice they wanted the character to have and she is a pretty famous voice actress so.
@@dragonlogos1 Didn't know making a mini-mod spinoff game required such cloak and dagger behavior. Also I don't care about the actress, she did fine. well Jane Kelly death's in the game is non canon but when listening to the conversation she had with torque kinda hard since I accidently killed Jane during first mission
VA was ignorant. Additionally Torque is born on Earth and knowing Ethereals experiments it is likely she has received modifications to her vocal organs to enable talking. Both ended up as just reserve soldiers for me...
Was not expecting a fully humanoid voice
It the same va for loona off of Helluva boss series!
honestly the fact jane kelly is still alive makes me happy
I heard that torque is like loona from helluva boss but more toxic
Omg, Torques VA is Erica Lindbeck!!!!!
"You had fangs?" Lol
Wow look Torque really is the best character!
Axiom: Am I a joke to you?
Is this a men in black type game?
This entry could have been even better with a budget... Chats like this would have been great in cutscenes or...y'know anything other than Torque standing in her idle animation with no lip sync and Kelly just a portrait with some text voiceover. I blame 2K... why they'd think another Xcom entry after how well the first two did wouldn't need MONEY to be the best it could be is beyond all understanding I'll ever have.
Testing new mechanics and story progress.
@@vksasdgaming9472 ya it's just a side game to play as a pseudo beta to test the turn timer and alien squadmates.
Am I the only one weirded out that the snake sounds exactly like a normal person?
The voice actor was never told that the character was a snake reportedly so that she would sound like a normal person.
@@dragonlogos1 How the fuck do you screw up talent hunting for a game so bad that you don't tell the actors what character they're playing?
The fact they gave no direction to make her sound -at all- different from a normal human being is the problem, they didn't even put a filter on it or do SOMETHING.
@@YourBestFriendreally that is what they were going for though. The whole theme is that we’re not so different. I thought it turned out was a reasonable choice.
Man I kinda want to see Torque befriend a little boy and possibly adopt him now that would be cute
Cherub there his 5 years old
@@lkcdarzadix6216 he's already adpoted. In fact, the XCOM ops who found him became a couple because of him
The dialogue in Chimera Squad is leagues above XCOM 2. There I said it
Jane kelly not wearing her Ballcap anymore :(
Gotta show off the streak
The random music seemed to fit well with this
This was honestly hearth warming, snek waifu jokes aside, I think Torque is my favourite character
I hope we get an Alternate Universe Sequel to XCOM Enemy Unkown where XCOM defeated these silly aliens.
well Jane Kelly death's in the game is non canon but when listening to the conversation she had with torque kinda hard since I accidently killed Jane during first mission
I like her already!
I haven’t played this one yet but is there an explanation for why her voice isn’t more I don’t know snake like guess?
Her voice actor didn't know she was voicing a giant snake till after it was finished
VA was ignorant. Additionally Torque is born on Earth and knowing Ethereals experiments it is likely she has received modifications to her vocal organs to enable talking. If Ethereals were able to make Vipers humanoid it would be easy to give them ability to talk. So it is plausible within gameworld that Viper can speak without stereotypical hissing.
@@vksasdgaming9472 true but I sort of expected some kind of after effect on there voice. Like how all the Turians in Mass effect have that effect thing when they speak.
@@Zack_Wester Skirmisher had that. Reason why it no longer exists in CS though is Skirms and other Hybrids had those implants in their throats removed. you know, the ones attached to their helmets.
God these aliens do not sound at all like they look
Problem is i never saw real aliens. So i don't know how they would sound.
I just realised: Jane Kelly survived? Man I lose her every play through of WotC
this gene-mod that makes viper talk like human woman is way too effective for something hastily developed in past 5 years...
Well vipers were the base version of thin men(Some fucking how) So its possible thats just elder tech since thin men needed to speak like humans to blend in.
@@klo45pl It also probably was a way to connect lore with conspiracy theories (reptilians)
I mean Xcom came up with some crazy mods like letting people spit venom in like less than a year under pressure from elders, funding, and which research to priotize. Imagine having 2 out 3 issues being gone and being able to go full RnD
Yeah its call humanization a thing that too oftenly use on creature who are supposed to be alien
@@klo45pl The Elders are incredibly fond of Genetic manipulation.
Just want to say, the one thing Torque does NOT do is push people away! ;)
This better come out for consoles.
I'd just like to point out Torque is the best agent in the game and Vicious Bite is the worst ability.
Torque’s voice doesn’t fit but the voice actress did a really good job performing here. Shame no one briefed her on the character.
I like how they utterly shattered our expectations with the biggest 180 ever. We all expected a usual serpentine voice. But no. They decided to subvert everything make it just, a young adult with a nervous voice in private. I like that!
@@Zynet_Eseled I hate it because it just sounds so off putting, there's a huge dissonance for me between the character model and the voice actress. I don't know it seems to undermine the whole "we're not so different" message for me because it feels like the only way to get that message across was to have the aliens not actually be aliens.
@@insertname3977 but torque isn’t an alien
@@chimeraofscarlet8610 They are though? Being born on Earth doesn't stop something from being an alien.
@@insertname3977 i mean alien means not from earth here
They didn't give the voice actor any background on her character, damn that sucks away all the immersion.
Why does a Snake alien sound like a human in every way?
Either Elders gene-modding them massively (Thin Men, after all, are derived from Vipers, yet can speak at least 10 human languages perfectly) or some kind of translation device being in usage.
@@caav56 that's an interesting lore reason, but the real reason is because the voice actors didn't know they were voicing aliens or humans and what not. Hell they didn't even know this was for a video game until later.
@@connormacleod4922 Honestly, I'm not sure about this, since quite a few lines (about fangs and rats in particular) give some clues about the identity of the character.
@@caav56 trust me they didn't know. The voice actress for Torque confirmed this on Twitter.
Why does the snake lady speaks like normal human ?
kelly is a character from xcom 2 right? one of our soldiers became canon?
The survivor from the tutorial missions who accompanied Bradford.
Modder turned up and coming youtuber
