I love how much you cover in a short time, running sort of stream-of-consciousness, and not assuming you need to explain every single brushstroke. It makes for a much more informative and enjoyable video than most of the ones I’ve seen. Especially enjoyed the smoke/fire bit; got to learn how to possibly do both at once! Thanks!
thank you so much! the only tutorial that actually explained frame by frame helpfully! I'm really new to animating, and this is the video I always come back to for smoke and dust. once again thanks!
This video was great especially last part. I was having trouble with 2D smoke from a single point. I've done smoke with VR/Quill similarly, but didn't think of it the same way for some reason.
Great video, really well explained. Would love to hear how you approach cycling something like a stream, ribbon of smoke, tattered fire traditionally. How you would approach either animating back into the first frame or if you have another particular technique.
This video shows how I animate fire ruclips.net/video/PXpvc3Nt85c/видео.html I also have one on a bubble cycle- all my cycles use the same general technique. I have all my fx tutorials grouped in this playlist : ruclips.net/video/spm-QYNburg/видео.html
I do whatever the studio needs lol. Wind can be really tricky to balance visibility with some kind of good style. I've had clients revise a hairdryer 4-5 times because it didn't "Feel right". Avatar has some amazing air-effects (airbender, not the blue guys lol). Sand is the worst, because it's kind of fluid, but also solid, and made of lots of tiny pieces and dust. Lots of layers. Fire I just wing it. Make sure everything keeps moving up, and do some studies of fires, real and cartoons to get a feel for the shapes. Pinterest is your friend!
Amateur is on it's way to pro!! All of us still have a lot to learn. There's always a bigger hurdle. If you can embrace the learning more than "Getting good" it will make your life less stressful. :)
I have a few that are in that ball park. For hot keys I have very few custom ones. That way as I studio hop or upgrade I don't need to change very much. I only add hotkeys to things I do regularly that don't have one already. Efficient studio animation - Things that help thrive in a studio setting. Character animation: Blocking has my initial set up for character animation, working top-down. Fx cycles. Bubbles. - I break down my fx cycle method, similar to this video, but more to the point. Harmony Rigging: Fairy part 0 - streamlining my rigging work flow. Lots of tips about using templates, and working smart. I don't plan anything out so my channel is like a bargain bin - just dig through and you'll find something lol.
Wowww Im so happy to see a female animator, always so used to search for tutorials and only finding male ones! Im sorry if Im beeing sexist but as a girl starting in animation I feel happy watching this (:
I get it! Animation is still a bit of a boy's club, but it gets better all the time. I've actually worked with more women fx animators than men in the studio, but none of them are active online. I know a lot of wonderful designers with no online presence too. I'll keep telling them to be louder. :)
I loved this! I just couldnt understand with you mean with that 13:53 part.. "If I had to do it on ones....".. Could you explain that to me please? Thank you so much! Love you xo
Sure - if character animation is done on 2's, the fx animation can be done on 2's. Often if you mix single frame animations with stuff held on 2's 3's whatever, it will look really staggered and weird. One of the tricky things about fx animation is making sure our timing jives with the characters :) if the whole idea of 1s, 2s, 3s is confusing, RubberOnion has a great video about it :D ruclips.net/video/5_MDprx3tOU/видео.html
hi! i want to know how is the best way to put the effects in your scenes, for example i create a running cycle and i want to put powder on it, i first do the running cycle and the i put the fx in another drawing layer right?
@@entertainmentvidz It takes practice just like any tool. Tracing things, doing mazes, or just writing words will all help. Or just practice drawing lines that go thin to thick, thick to thin. If you spend 5-10 minutes a day just to line control you'll see results pretty fast :)

Oh hey, love your phycadelic animations!
@@unanimated7084 Thanks very much :)
breaking the smoke down like this is magical! thank you :)
Omggg thank you so much!! I'm not an animator, but I really needed a heart shape smoke effect and your video was the only helpful one!
I learned more watching this on mute for a few seconds than i did in 3 years of art school
You are amazing animator and teacher! Thankyou!
Thank you for your remarkably clear description. 👍 It was a pleasure to watch.
This video was great especially last part. I was having trouble with 2D smoke from a single point. I've done smoke with VR/Quill similarly, but didn't think of it the same way for some reason.
Damn that smoke loop technique works so well, thanks ! It kind of ressemble fire you're right, that's a good thing because I hate fire loops haha.
Thank you so much! Honestly this is helping a lot!
Got a LOT out of this video. Thank you :)
we always learn with you

@@StylusRumble this reply made my day thank you 💛
This was awesomely helpful THANKS!
You are so great, thank you, thank You for this!!!
Such an amazing work. I love it :D
Awesome!!!
Gracias eres genial.
Omg this is awesome :O what kinds of other environmental effects can you do? I struggle with wind and spreading fire.

you are a god among men, thank you for your service o7
bravo
This is the best!
I'm learning so much :D
Thank you! I wish to see this 3 month ago before working on a feature film. Maybe then my animation wouldnt look that amateurish.

Thanks alot
How do you go back and forth on the frames like that? Without clicking it? 😅I’m new
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello there, GREAT video! Which software are you using?
Harmony premium 16
Thank you teacher
非常喜欢这个烟雾特效的教程,后面烟雾消失的动画没有看懂。。。
Great video! Do you have any where you talk about setting up your workflow in the software? Best practices, hotkeys etc? Thanks!
I have a few that are in that ball park. For hot keys I have very few custom ones. That way as I studio hop or upgrade I don't need to change very much. I only add hotkeys to things I do regularly that don't have one already.

hi! i want to know how is the best way to put the effects in your scenes, for example i create a running cycle and i want to put powder on it, i first do the running cycle and the i put the fx in another drawing layer right?
That's usually how it goes. :)
It's always good to keep things separate, it's easier to make changes.
Could you post a fire tutorial, please?! I checked your other videos and there isn't hand-drawn focused. Will be much much appreciated
this one might help: ruclips.net/video/PXpvc3Nt85c/видео.html
I make fire and smoke cycles in a similar way- it's just about shape and speed.
Thank you so much for this! What program are you using here?
all my animation is done in Toon boomès Harmony Premium. :)
What software is this ? Is it Adobe flash ?
Great tutorial btw !! Instant sub
all my animation is done in harmony premium.
Great tutorial but what are you pressing to play your video half speed?
you can adjust your frames per second (FPS) on your playback settings right next to the play button. It has frame , start, stop, and FPS.
@@StylusRumble Ok cool thanks a lot
Yeah, you pretty much made every other tutorial on this look stupid! Thanks awesome really helpfull
nice vid, what digital drawing software are you using?
all the animation stuff is done in Toonboom harmony 14/15 for painting /drawing I use photoshop.
Thank you so much I’m a literal child (middle school) and I’m trying really hard to get better at animation
You have loads of time! Just have lots of fun and you'll improve for sure!
How do u set your brush?
I just use the default brush. Hold the letter O and drag to change sizes, and I turn the "minimum size" to zero in the tool properties.
@@StylusRumble cool, see I'm drawing on paper is easier for me than drawing on tablet. But I'm coming along
