- On July 2, Eminem dropped "Tobey" featuring Big Sean 7 Babytron, from his upcoming "Death of Slim Shady" album. On it they all claim GOAT status, where do you rank Eminem? Let's discuss.

I couldn't differentiate their voices at first
When they were doing ad libs at the beginning right? It wasn’t just me
@@RobMarkman I was not just you Rob!! The influence is there, I would not say he's a carbon copy or anything like that, but when it started I was unfamiliar with Babytron and thought it was Sean.
for me, as an Eminem fan, the track was dope af. Em wasn't this confident for a long time, I mean, he was always confident, but he was humble at the same track. and on this track he just basically says "fuck it all" and go full ham
Em top 5. Nas, Dot, Rakim, and BIG for me.
That’s a strong 5
I can go that list
As a black male , I’ve been listening to Eminem since 2000.. Eminem is definitely in my top 3… he has always kept it hip hop, gave the past greats their flowers all the time, and he’s adhered to the unspoken rules of hip hop the other artists such as drake have broken.. definitely great.. and he’s better than j hova
My top 5:
1. André 3000
2. Kendrick Lamar
3. Nas
4. Lupe Fiasco
5. MF DOOM
Edit: Appreciate ya bro. Love the straightforward & honest (although sometimes too agreeable) approach to covering these topics.
my top 5
Eminem
Lupe Fiasco
KingLos
KxngCrook
BlackThought or AesopRock
I haven’t really listened to BabyTron but he killed that hook and verse! 🔥
I legit didnt realize that tron and shawn had their own verses. I thought it was all shawn on the first listen. 😂
Fr
Renegade is one of the best verses in history of rap in my opinion.
My favourite album is relapse 😅
Cant deny , that he is top tier MC.
Jay did his thing as well
@@DarkClouds-v8Do you fools listen to music or do you just skim through it? 🥳
@@salomaonplanetsaturn ems verse was far superior in messaging and rhyme in my opinion
@@the-lil-x agreed. Even in energy , it's just explosive
@@salomaonplanetsaturn to be fair it is an eminem song on a jay z album... The beat was produced by em and his beats tend to lean into and compliment his style .. also this is one of the best em versus of all time... I never looked at it as em smoking jay... Thats a narrative nas put out there... To his credit jay didnt get on here and try and compete with em lyrically... Which in my opinion would of made for not as good of a song... Instead he makes the concept his own and uses ems verse like a prelude or introduction to his story and where hes at... He leans into what the song is about... And its actually a better song for it... The version with royce is not as good because he is also doing some super lyrical shit that ultimately lacks substance... The marriage of jay z vs with em completes the picture... It would of been damn near impossible to top what em did on that beat and an attempt to do so would of made for a less impactful song.... What we get instead is a collaborative process instead of competitive.... Which is incredible considering his verse fits better than royces despite basically just getting the complete song and not actually being in the studio together... Writing and working at the same time... And jays vs is dope... Some times rappers get to caught up in being lyrical and lose the messaging and point of the song
Tobey was dope. Detroit 3. Em, my number one. Today was a good day.
Em definitely top 5 , but order always gonna be subjective. I appreciate the track, really cool joint! Salute to you Rob from Serbia 🇷🇸 dope video as always!🙌🏼
Peace Serbia!!!!
I had crazy anticipation for Em's conceptual approach only for Big Sean and BabyTron to sound way too alike which was one of my critiques to a friend, only to realize upon the 8-9th listen with Rap Genius lyrics in front of me that BabyTron was verse 1 och Big Sean verse 2? Wtffff 😭
Wow
I thought this joint was dope, like you said I wasn't too familiar with trons catalog but i thought he did his thing. Definitely excited to hear the album. My opinion might be biased lol because em in my top 5
Haha your opinion is your opinion. I love. Lord knows i sit up there in front of my camera and say mines so i respect yours
@@RobMarkman no doubt. You give a lot of good insight in your videos bro and the fact you stay engaged in the comments is dope. You got my respect bro and I hope this brings you a lot of new opportunities. 🫡
Hey Rob
Great video. You've been killing it.
For a video idea, I'd love to hear you take on why Hov is your GOAT. Your reasonable doubt anniversay vid got me thinking that you could articulate the reason why many consider Hov the goat.
Haha Yes i can!!!! One day i will. Thats a good idea. Thanks
eminems rapping ability sticks out like a light-bright on crack on every track where someone is a feature . he makes the best seem average when you hear HOW he raps whatever sounds cool to you whatever lyrics touch your soul fine thats preference but LISTEN to the words he uses and how his Verses are put together imagine writing at that complex of a level
wonderful video rob
I love the double entendre of being bit by a goat, they taking the youngins styles
Yeah. It’s a cool double
Eminem wrote that verse for people like u Rob💯 he smoked a few of those guys in ur top 5 if they not dead and gone💯🐐
Coming in early just to answer the question and listen.
Eminem is dope as hell, however after the first 2 albums i fell off of Marshall. His content doesn't really speak to me even when i go listen to the new stuff.
He a fire lyricist, but i have nowhere to put him on my goat list at all that contain ppl like
Hov Nas Mos Lupe and Dot/Cole
Maaaaan i love Mos. Black on Both is still my favorite album of his
I keep several tracks in the playlist rotation now since all my CDs are pretty much obsolete 😂
@@RobMarkmanblack on both sides is a certified hip hop classic timeless i need more of that from mos
If em isnt in your goat list anywhere i dont know if i can respect your opinion at all... He doesnt have to be top 5 but he should be mentioned
Your personal opinion is yours alone that cant be argued but if were talking objectively
Cole and mos are two of my favorite all time artist but they in my opinion lack the work ethic body of work consistency and impact to make my top five
@@the-lil-x I respect your opinion with my lateness. However the question was"your goat list" so to me that negates you pressuring me to add dude to my list
He dope, he ain't a goat for my list but he is a great MC
Edit....Cole got more bodies of work then Dot. Mos to me just needs to be mentioned due to lack of being mentioned; however the Yasiin Bey music he been dropping is slick aite
Em's race has 100% been a factor in his success but at the same time has had a negative effect on his legacy within Hip-Hop in my opinion.
He's the only rapper I've seen get slighted for being too "lyrical miracle" and he's by no means my favorite rapper. There's been a dip in quality for sure in terms of the projects the last decade but his pen has always been elite.
I wanna go in depth but this is probably not the place for it.
Eminem prolly somewhere in my top 10. Unfortunately a lot of his career has gone on to be pretty corny ever since 2007, but the Eminem show one of the greatest rap albums, but Yooo Rob congrats on the channel I been tapped in for the past couple months glad to see you doing your thing fr! Was wondering how an indie artist could send you some stuff?
Really hoping Eminem isn't marketing us a Slim Shady style album, and then giving us the exact same motivation rap he's been given us since MMLP2. Music to Be Murdered By was deceptive in it's presentation - it looked like a Relapse style horrorcore album, and then was nothing like that when listening to it. Getting nervous this one might be the same.
I can't tell you how much I agree with this comment man. This album looks likes shaping up to be another directionless rehashing of his recent albums ideas and not a cohesive concept.
@@PrincipalSkinner3190 Yep. I actually didn't mind Houdini. Didn't think it was the best song ever, but it was a fun nostalgia trip that had moments of freshness. However, this track just sounds like the same crap I've heard for ten years. Has me a bit nervous because this sounds nothing like what the concept art/ houdini theme has been telling us. Just compare Tobey to Guilty Conscience or Bad Meets Evil, and it's ass.
The monotone beat reminds me of one of my favorite songs of his, Brain Damage, where there's a graphic storyline about being bullied and crazy things start happening because of that, but rapping for rapping sake just doesn't hit for me from him since we've heard this so many times before. Hopefully the full project has more meat.
You should make a video explaining your criteria for best MC. There are so many angles people argue and it’s varies so much for each individual. Would be interesting to see your standards so we could understand your MC list.
Ex. Some people hold peak performances are #1 (Biggie) some people say volume (Wayne) others cultural impact outside of music (pac / Jay z) others might say influence or pop culture.
It’s always interesting to understand where people come from because why argue people’s preferences. Just let people like who they like.
Hip-Hop at its finest! This track makes me believe that Redman is Em's favorite emcee. I hope he's vibin' in this type bag for the overall project.
Even one of the top reactors got Big Sean and Babytron mixed up
i personally really loved the song, also, big sean is absolutely slept on, feel the record he is hinting at dropping is gonna be amazing
The obi wan bar was definitely my favorite! As a comic book nerd i really liked this track
The Renegade talk reminds me of the "Poetic Justice" talk with Kendrick & Drake, they both approached the song differently, there's no wack verse.
Tron used to have a way different style vocally - he sort of found his formula the past 2 years on the more monotone rapid punch in flow w a bunch of themed songs.
He's been punching in since he started but if you go back to 2019 and check out Human Torch or Gamebreaker he used to be a lot more emotive and raw when he started up. Prime area where he found his footing is his 2021 run. His verse on Lil Yachty's Hybrid and his song Just In Case are his best showings imo
Rakim
Pac
Jay z
Scarface
Nas
Eminem
Lil wayne
Kendrick
Dmx
E40
I gotta at least do a top ten its too many people for just 5 artist
Cause i still wanna add big pun big L snoop red meth kurupt black thought pharaoh lupe royce krs slick rick mos def busta rhymes twista tech 9 biggie andre 3000 j. Cole kanye and more
There is no singular g.o.a.t. in my opinion just a the greatest of all time list that you can get on like the rocking roll hall of fame
Wh
He's the best pure rapper ever.
IMO i believe Black Thought is.
What about mf doom lupe black thought mos def roc marciano all of these mcs are better overall pure rappers imo
I feel like people are going to like what they like, and styles speak to different styles of people - but from an objective point of view, it’s undeniable that Eminem has a skill set that Jay z and other artists cannot equal
Eminem will always be Top 5
Sean definitely got overshadowed by the beef, Precision was 🔥
I like the premise of the song. I have conflicted thoughts about Em as a rapper. Great technician, but musically he doesn't evoke a lot of emotion that i can relate to. So if I were to say for me, Young Jeezy is a better emcee, some would find an issue with it. But music is subjective. Side note: I wish Sean wasn't so affected by the industry, He's really dope!
Personal top five
Kendrick
Wayne
3000
Isaiah Rashad
Nas
(Honorable mentions Earl, Cole & Hov)
Wayne and Kendrick are permanent two for me, they interchangeable depending on the day
You should put Black Thought in your top 5 Rob, that man is a beast

"Guess I've really no right to complain much hip-hop has been good to me huh?
But when they say that I'm only top five 'cause I'm white, why would I be stunned
My skin color's still working against me 'cause second I should be to none
Being white ain't why they put me at five, it's why they can't put me at one"
Open season on Melly Mel? lol 🤷🏾♂️ This is actually my first time hearing Tron, I like the hook, Sean never leaves anything on the table. I think he waited til the dust settled to drop this. Em is definitely one of the best lyrically, it’s an acquired taste, pause. But I think certain days u like certain artist. Always changing depending on ur mood.
Nas could have justifiably gone in on MC Shan for the disrepect but he did the opposite. Just because you can doesn’t necessarily mean you should. Something to consider.
Em, nas, black thought, rakim, royce
That single has me worried.
How so? Would love to just hear your thoughts on what has you worried
I guess I just don't see myself listening to it again. I really didn't like the instrumental. I didn't think it was horrible though.
@@forwardthinkingforum13 i feel you.
I’m with you on that the album is called death of slim shady where’s the storytelling songs the controversy where’s the big single to bring it in I don’t like Houdini and Tobey is ok where’s the concepts because this ain’t it
@@forwardthinkingforum13 it was about the lyrics, not the beat, it has replay value because they all Said certain things that make u think, it's high replay value, and when albums come out I always skip the singles. This has good replay value because of the skilled lyrics.
This single proves Em is about to drop another directionless album. I used to have him as the GOAT. Currently I'd have him ranked around #5 with potential to drop further.
A lot riding on this album for you?
@@RobMarkmanI'd say so, If Em doesn't deliver now, I doubt he ever will again.
Assuming babytron wrote the hook is wild
Marshall will forever be number one for me
Some of ems subject matter keeps him off of peoples top 5 I believe… on the contrary his skin color is what makes people undecided about him if he was black he would def be bigger than he is… it would make him more relatable to the culture i think his skin color holds him back its his skill that makes him a conversation and debatable its undeniable that he is nice with his pen people hate that he white but hands down on my top 5 because of his skills
Tron definitely sounded almost exactly like Sean. Didn’t know when his stopped and Sean started. Should have placed Em’s verse in between
I wish Eminem flow on this was just a tad slower, Slim style. I love Eminem but the fast rapping was never for me.
The posthumous joint with Biggie doesn't count.
Yeah i feel you
Can't sleep on Em ever, but he's def not in my top 5. Can't place him above:
Kendrick
Lupe
DOOM
Black Thought
3000 or Nas or Jay
I want eminem to retort that stupid argument "he only puts words together" in true slim shady fashion.
Eminem is definitely in my Top 3 but I am kind of over him making music to prove that to other people. His creativity is suffering. His music to me is personally better than years past but I’m just not a fan of him mentioning why people don’t like him. Em matters to the people he matters to. But I respect the hunger… it’s just to an unhealthy amount.
I’m not a big fan of the Tobey instrumental, but it does give me a lot of hope as to what I should expect from this album next week compared to Houdini.
Em used to be on the top 5 for me but Dot has moved up into it for me. He’s probably 6 for me.
Dude after 15 Grammy being a millionaire still dropping records at fifty yrs with billion of views you need to grow up a bit get aways from those mumble rappers shit and learn from the goat himself and stop running your mouth about top five crap
I really wish i understood the point you were trying to make, I’d have a better response. But it just felt attacking, because you don’t agree with my top 5 or that there should even be a top 5… you confused me with this one champ lol
Tron and sean didn’t sound kinda similar. They sounded exactly the same. To the point that I got to the end of the song and was like, wait were was tron?
Call me a conspiracist lol but Tobey Eminem and Renegade Eminem are not the same human. The end.
My top 5
Eminem
Pac
BIG
Nas
Jay Z
Eminem is in my top 30 for sure.
What top 5 you smokin on Drake??
Em did give us his list
Reggie
Jay z
Tupac
Biggie
Andre 3000
Jada
Kurupt
Nas
Eminem
1:53. Babytorn is stacking vocals. Poor breath control.
Well that’s his style right? I’ve heard him stack vocals way more close together on other songs
@@RobMarkman Haha, it’s like you want me to clown him some more. I would hate to be his audio engineer. It’s like he forgets to breathe, so he has to lay down every bar as a separate recording. And that’s his ‘style’? Yikes.
I imagine him reading lyrics off a phone. If that’s the case, perhaps memorizing the lyrics would benefit him so he knows when to sneak in some fresh air through his mouth. Until then, the young lad’s music is nails to a chalkboard to me.
Looking forward to your videos, Rob. I appreciate your thoughtful takes.
Never heard babytron before, I thought he was the producer and Sean had two verses for some reason lol🤦🏽♂️
it's either EM OR NAS.
no matter what criteria EM Is at the TOP
for me it's EM NAS LUPE PUN RAKIM
Em was in my top five he's more like 7-10 my five is Nas, Jay-z, 2Pac, Biggie, Rakim.
The song is Like that....I wanted a stronger beat to kick in at some point but I love the song away...Now if we're just talking lyrics...Em is really top 3 and that's based on "FLAVOR"...Meaning You may like more then just someone's lyrics...It could be, he relates to your culture more or his "DELIVERY(word play)" is more your style... but Lyrically none is better BUT ,Em isn't in my personal top 5 but again based on the things I mentioned in this comment....If he was black and had more content related to our culture, which would be the case if he was black then he would be the best...Facts
Anyone who don’t have em in their top 5 just hating
Em/Kdot/Nas/MF Doom/Elzhi
It's not a shot at Jay it's a shot at those people that always puts Jay at 1 on these list.
There's not a single Year where Jay Z was the hottest rapper
For me, Nas is the GOAT! With that being said, this song is a reaction to what Kendrick did on Like That. This is Em's "Big me" statement.
Em outperformed Jay on renegade flow /energy wise but Jay's actual verse stands up to Em's verse.
As far as Em's position on the Goat list he's probably top 15-20. 3 great albums in a row. 2 of them are classics. But there's a lot mid to trash music that came af3.
Sounds like Em took a shot at Jay
But idk im gonna start changing my criteria for top five MC’s most of peoples top 5 MC’s cant talk to the ladies with out a writer… idk 🤷🏽
Fr I thought big Sean was rapping the hook
Number one, but I wish he would cut the fast rapping crap
What’s your favorite Em flow?
His flow on Lord above with Fat joe is amazing ! @RobMarkman
@@geovanni888drumer def amazing, the fast raps makes me turn to the next song
Babytron carried.
I liked the hook tbf Babytron cold but yh him and big Sean idk
🤔🤔🤔
Idk man Big Sean and BabyTron sound nothing alike to me 😂🤷🏾♂️
Maybe it’s just me. And normally they don’t. But on this song i heard it lol
Eminem smoked Jay on Renegade lol
Oh this the I don’t like Em show. Haven’t heard one good thing about Em on the page. 😂😂😂😂😂
Cry bro... cry...😂
What we crying about ?
Marshall top 20 and he aint 20. 😅
Not 19 either lol
Im kinda sick of the new york trifecta of biggie jayz nas... Its 2024
These are three artist from the same region and time period
You gotta pick one... And move on....
For your personal list ok say what you feel but objectively speaking hip hop too varied and wide to reduce it to a specific time and place taking 3 of the top five spots
If were going to spread it out
I have to say hands down rakim for his era and tupac from his
East coast i gotta say its jay for me
South scarface west snoop midwest eminem
Em is my 🐐 then nas then jay
Em is top 10 as far as technically talented. My favorites? Maybe top 30... MAYBE.
Eminem's first 3 albums alone put him above people on Rob's top 5. 🤷🏾♂️
Yo em is my fav but what you just said is absolutely wild
I think if Eminem was black he would be on every black persons top 3. It goes both ways.
Guess we’ll never know
You sound ridiculous
Black listen to whatever slaps. Mc serch Paul wall big pun fat Joe race don’t matter em shit weird and few black people listen to it. Even in Detroit Em aint Detroit sound
Not if he’s making the same music. Em music is to cringy with too many corny punchlines to be considered the greatest or top 3
As a hater, please no more Eminem coverage lol lyrical ability does not equate to great rapping to me. His music gets no spins in my crib car and as a DJ he was almost never requested. Please
Wow, imagine telling a man he shouldn’t cover a rapper many consider one of the best to ever do it. And I’m not talking about Em fans, I’m talking about other MC’s.
Upon first listen I think it’s a decently dope record baby tron was right in pocket on this one Sean did his thing. To be honest Em’s verse was whatever on this one
I was impressed by tron
Em rapped better than Sean and tron, but tron had the weakest verse. It wasn't bad, but it's a good look for him.
Jay Z the greatest of all time, Eminem the biggest rapper of all time. = MJ
So NOO music played??? THE FK
Eniem Drake Wayne Top 5, no jayz , tupac
Em hasn’t impressed me yet with this rollout
I'm getting kinda tired of Eminem's adlibs especially when he laughs at his own jokes
Eminem KILLED Jay on Renegade. And Jay said it. Stop. You pandering. Eminem also produced that beat and his verse existed before Jay wrote. It's not a debate
When did Jay say this? Lol
Why you so hurt?
@@blackjesus4525 Jay said he was "off his game". Go do the research. He pretty much conceded Em got him. And if you have ears, you know Em got him on those verses
I'm an African from Nigeria and Eminem is my Top 1.
I have found that black Americans are the ones who don't really f* with him.
His life, music and story makes more sense and resonates more to most people than Jay-Z. But then, he is definitely a top 5 rapper because of his influence on culture. Based on rapping skills and story, he's my 1
Em aint outrap Nas on EPMD2 he ruined the song with those gimmicky chia pet taco bell santa clause bars no argument he not seeing Nas
I stopped listening as soon as I heard that goat line
my top 5
1- EMINEM
2- 2PAC
3- BIG
4- LIL WAYNE
5- your favorite RAPPER
Biggie one don't count
