    Whenever I hear about this, “passing through out Oort Cloud” seems to by the concern. Possibly shaking up some stuff, pontentially throwing some comets, etc our way. What about the fact that we’re gonna be directly INSIDE of its Oort Cloud? If not us, since it’s a smaller star, certainly some of the outer planets. That could create some serious, serious mayhem. This is definitely a more dangerous scenario for life than any galactic collision.

    John do you think Gliese 710 could have its own "ort cloud" that could possibly pass through our solar system?

  • @pm71241
    @pm71241 7 лет назад +13

    Wouldn't the worst problem be if Gliese 710 had it's own Oort cloud ... which would pass very near by us?

    • @seraphina985
      @seraphina985 7 лет назад +1

      Well if it has one I would imagine that it would likely be smaller than our own as Gliese 710 has less gravity than our own Sun does. Though that doesn't rule out problems while it's true that capturing such object even with the Sun being more gravitationally dominant is difficult (Their initial velocity being of extrasolar origin will mostly mean any pulled out of Gliese's influence would end up on a hyperbolic trajectory around the Sun and become rouge comets after their initial pass some could potentially be captured into solar orbit if there were enough of them. The law of large numbers trumps improbability.

      @@seraphina985 I am more worried about the Sun capturing planets orbiting Gliese 710. Or worse, gas giants.

    Scholz's star passed by sol 70,000 yrs ago only .82 light years away. A red dwarf passed by while humans could watch. I wonder if it dropped off a few explorers, or set off a few comets while traipsing through the Oort cloud.

  • @Gattberserk

    The 86% chance of probability is deduce from the older calculation which state that the Star will pass by us around 1.1 LY away. In the new GAIA estimate, that figure is reduce to 1/5 or 13000AU, with uncertainty of +/- 0.07 LY or 4000 AU, which means if we are unlucky enough, it can come as close as 9000 AU.
    At that distance, the star will trump every object in the night sky except Sun, Moon and Venus, becoming the 4th brightest celestial object at -3.39 magnitude.

    Yes it's also a blessing for some humans to seek Planets in gliese and gets a free ride with them as gliese is gets. away. Actually good news for those exploring other stars. No need to travel to but wait for their coming.

    That as to be my biggest gripe with life as we know it, We that are alive today will miss out on all the awesome events and journeys of discovery and technology, It's so not cool unless we evolve into another form of life after death, and I don't mean that heaven rubbish.

    • @cenzoredworld
      @cenzoredworld 8 лет назад +2

      Well there is always the "brain upload" concept that seems to be viable in the future. A body can be produced from your dna, then your consciousness (memories, knowledge) will be downloaded into your new body...repeat process if you have the means, one day this could happen for the rich I suppose and eventually become standard. We'll all be dead by then though

    • @CodeLeeCarter
      @CodeLeeCarter 8 лет назад +2

      cenzoredworld I have to say that I've always loved that concept to upload your consciousness, however, the price is making it a hard option to aim for.
      Then I'll have a thought... wondering if a copy of my consciousness will stay with the body and go on to were ever after death.
      Will there only be one copy of consciousness, and would I be selling myself short by uploading myself... opposed to whatever happens after death, I mean It may be a better life after death, I suppose if a copy is left, then I'll be in two dimensions... It's not as if I can afford an upload lol.

    • @cenzoredworld
      @cenzoredworld 8 лет назад +2

      Gary ?
      Lol, good points. Who's to say you cant bifurcate your consciousness into two dimensions, consequently forging two separate paths? We need more research and understanding of consciousness, clearly, food for thought..

    The late, Professor Stephen Hawking said, artificial life forms are the next big thing in evolution. Perhaps the age of organic life forms is coming to an end anyway. An artificial humanoid could make the 8000 year trip to our nearest star very easily since the restrains of aging and needing an 8000 years supply of oxygen and food would no longer apply.

    • @GemKun-w2y
      @GemKun-w2y 5 лет назад

      Possibly, but there is no doubt that in the future there will be a way to either extend one's life, or to prolong it, maybe even shorten the aging process. A lot of things can happen.
