  • This nursing home was abandoned after a fire in 2012. The original part of the building was a mansion built by an abolitionist and was used as a stop on the Underground Railroad. The building was in far better shape than I'd imagined, even after over a decade of abandonment and multiple fires. There was a small amount of graffiti but otherwise very little vandalism. For the most part, the building is tightly boarded up, making for very little natural light, especially on the first floor. It was one of the more creepy places that I've explored. I've been in many abandoned hospitals, asylums, etc., but this building felt weird. I don't believe in ghosts or anything paranormal but I definitely heard noises here, of course, that's what old deteriorating buildings do, they make mysterious noises.
