Names like "knanaya" came into popular use only after 1980s. This name and related stories are hardly hundred years old. The main culprits who cooked up these stories are Makil Metran, Chazhikadan and Vellian. The common name for this sub-caste is "Thekkumbhagar" and are mockingly referred to as the "Charamkettikal". They were a group of people considered lower in caste to the Vadakkumbhagar Nasranis. The Thekkumbhagar were concentrated in the Kaduthuruthy area and they were prevented from being ordained as priests by the numerically larger Vadukkumbhagar Nasranis. Later, the Portuguese won them over by giving them separate parishes and ordaining many of their members as priests. In 1911, they were gifted the Kottayam diocese after Makil Metran was chased out of Changanacherry. The name used for the community in the papal bull creating that diocese is "suddist" (thekkumbhagar). The only people who benefit from silly "knai" stories and dubious endogamy rules are the clergy of the Kottayam eparchy and some community leaders who make fools out of their ignorant laity and want to control their lives. The kids who made this video are just victims of this propaganda.

These people are from Tamilnadu and population DNA match with Pallar/Vellalar manual laboring hindu caste communities, and the DNA is only confirming the "Charamketty" history that is very well known. Names like "knanaya" came into popular use only after 1980s. This name and related stories are hardly hundred years old. The main culprits who cooked up these stories are Makil Metran, Chazhikadan and Vellian. The common name for this sub-caste is "Thekkumbhagar" and are mockingly referred to as the "Charamkettikal". They were a group of people considered lower in caste to the Vadakkumbhagar Nasranis. The Thekkumbhagar were concentrated in the Kaduthuruthy area and they were prevented from being ordained as priests by the numerically larger Vadukkumbhagar Nasranis. Later, the Portuguese won them over by giving them separate parishes and ordaining many of their members as priests. In 1911, they were gifted the Kottayam diocese after Makil Metran was chased out of Changanacherry. The name used for the community in the papal bull creating that diocese is "suddist" (thekkumbhagar). The only people who benefit from silly "knai" stories and dubious endogamy rules are the clergy of the Kottayam eparchy and some community leaders who make fools out of their ignorant laity and want to control their lives. The kids who made this video are just victims of this propaganda.

Although I'm bit surprised about why so called vadakkumbhagar nasranis have started copying our traditions and customs in their marriages. Guess what, probably all people like you can do is cook up fake stories without any basis.
Like I already mentioned, the so-called "kananya" stories of the Thekkumbhagar can be traced back to a handful of writers and are hardly a century old. The Nasrani community of Kerala has a rich history and tradition of its own. The 72 privileges of the Nasranis are given to the trader Marwan Sabrisho by the king of Kollam in the 9th century. The copper plates are still in the possession of the Nasrani community. (one is with the Orthodox faction and another is with the Marthoma faction). The Thekkumbhagar, who have no connection with these copper plates, made up a similar story. I can go on...
