I used the led strip from Walmart that had the 3M backing and haven't had a problem. I stuck it under the top lip in front of the grill on my Mesa Single Rectifier so they light up the front of my amp so I can clearly see the controls in the dark. I wired it up to the jeweled power light so they come on with the power switch.
Hey bro it's all about entertainment of the masses, when we are on stage that is who we are .Every little bit adds to the experience that will make you a name for you and your band mates brother .you are heading in the right direction. Peace to you bro
A tip about hot glue: There's a type of hot glue stick that has a higher melting point, so if regular hot glue isn't doing the job, look for high temperature, hot melt glue. More about it here: www.hotmelt.com/blogs/blog/high-temp-hot-melt-vs-low-temp-hot-melt Also, to remove hot glue, use Isopropyl Alcohol. It makes the glue not stick to the surface anymore and come off very easily!
Used these LED's for my kids drum riser. Looked sweet I also used a good portion in the trunk of my car wired to the white light setting. Easy wiring to existing light. Just clipped them to the top of the liner in the trunk.
Hey Eric, awesome, great demonstration, a great DIY!!, and thanks for sharing your Idea! It really bring out the amp more. And it can bring out you light show on stage too. I had a Marshall 100 watt tube amp head that had three little LED in the top of the head, It had the see through mess, so you could see the tubs glow, which I liked. But your idea is a lot better. It really highlights the amp!!!! Thanks again for the hot tip, great job! It sounds like you have a lot of good ideas, just be careful, test it first, and think it through! And good luck with your band, I'll check it out!! Thanks Again Todd P.
I tried it with hot glue and it kept unsticking cause to the heat on the back of the strip. Then I saw another video where he used 3M Automotive molding tape (#2) and it’s holding perfect now. It’s strong enough to keep it from unsticking but will come off of you need to switch out the speakers.
this is awesome thanks for the video, pretty informative and product test you did there. we honestly had doubts about amazon Leds but this gave us hope
I just put LED's in my 6505+ but went with the bluetooth iphone controlled version. Still only $16 but off ebay with free shipping from China. It's a lot better than trying to get a remote signal to the tiny receiver inside the amp. Thanks for the video, Eric! Appreciate it immensely!
if got one of those i made stage lites for my Dimebag Statue i put in a basketball glass case looks cool. also my Randall rt503h had leds in it but when they desgined it the leds were to close to the power tubes and burned them out. so i went to a computer store a picked up a cold cathode ray tube. found the right spot and plugged it in with a little wireing mod., not hard if your a geek computer nerd and a musician.
@@joesaban5690 Yes i believe he is indeed being sarcastic. This LED mod has been common knowledge for PC owners who customize their cabinets using similar strips for quite some time now. As soon as i saw the thumbnail i knew what he'd be using but just wanted to confirm. Still a good idea for amps and haven't seen anyone else doing it. We just got new LED wires that weren't a thing till this year and i was curious to see if guitar strings could incorporate it also.
i used to have a krankenstein with a Green led display, i couldnt change the colors but it was actually wired into the amp power so i only had to plug in one thing
Dude I love your videos. Also fuck the haters who keep saying shit about you having a lot of gear, they're not just jealous that you have more than they do, but instead they're lazy and jealous. They're not willing to work hard. So they'll never understand how hard you worked for all this gear.
I bought some LEDs to do this with and was wondering if anyone else had the same idea. I haven't put mine in yet but I'm stoked to see that it's gonna look awesome!
I must say....this is probably one of the best videos I’ve seen....keep it up man. You just gave me an idea how to put LEDs on my Mesa Boogie Mark V. I just haven’t figure it out how I am going to do it just yet since the grill on such amp is not a see thru from the back. Keep up the good work Rock on!
Super glue comes off with acetone FYI. A small amount does wonders. Contact cement works best. Also comes off with acetone or mineral spirits. Real hot tubes on a hot sunny day with an outdoor gig will melt low heat hot glue. Been doing this for years before LEDs with neon lights. My ampeg vl1002 with the back lit logo was what gave me the idea in the early 2000s
Gonna get black lights and do the same, I have some currently but I have them glued to my door frame(I have black light posters on my door). Removes the remote control situation too.
Haha. I have those lights to help brighten up our dark and gloomy house. I'd been considering putting some inside my Dual Rectifier. I have a mini rec and the lights look cool.
Seriously bad ass!!! Come to Washington, so you can put on a killer show! Also, would it be tacky if I Put Christmas Tree Lights on my amp for a holiday show? Just wondering!
Dude. You could buy these, make new packaging, put some instructions how to put these in an amp, and sell them for $30+ as eric shreds official amp mod. But you would have to take this vid down or you would be exposed. This is such a great idea and I’m going to try this. Keep it up dude.
Slick video! Congrats! Crazy cool! I want to see how you do this with your JVM Marshall. There has to be a non-destructive method to light it up. I’m restoring my JCM 2000 TSL in “Hendrix Purple” and some LEDs would add huge awesomeness!
Eric Shreds, you Rock brother and isn't it cool to be doing something that you love besides playing music, i was always into art and magic growing up and i got to play in 6 countrys and 49 states and your art is making your rig light up and they look professional and not done half ass love the zombie thing going on in your Badcat head....keep it going Eric, cause you are very good at it.....keep in touch on here or facebook me ok, and you have a great rest of the weekend.....
YOu should use 5v man. Get the rainbow effect going. The soldering is pretty easy on those, you can cut them there as well. 5v is a lot easier to make your own cabling for as well since there is only 3 conductors.
Hey Eric could you do an updated Triamp vs 6505+ video since you have your new mic setup please? I have a 6505+ that I LOVE, but I'd also like to get a Triamp or Trilogy at some point too. Thanks!
Oh sweet man! That's actually something else I'd love to see! The 6505+ is my favorite amp of all time and I haven't found anything yet that I think beats it lol.
Thanks for sharing I have thought about removing my front plate on my 6505mh cause that little guy gets pretty warm does this help with the ventilation? That Would be my main reason for doing it but then hell the lights look cool so why not
Hi, I just came across this instructed LED vid. & its so dam cool & it looks GREAT!! So just want to say that was very awesome of you of sharing your secret info. of your sorta of invention.. LOL.. But seriously thanks for sharing cuz im going for it!! Keep Rockin Bro. From Mich.USA.
So wait... why not hard wire it into the amps on/off light? That way you don’t need to power it with a separate source and it’ll turn on and off when the amp is on or off
Hey, Eric! Great vid. I am trying to do this to my 6505+ and my 5150 for each side of the stage, but I am running into some trouble with the LED lights. I bought the supernight brand, but the strip wants to make purple by using one red light and one blue light. Is there anything special about the pack you buy that has all the colors in each light?? Any help would be great. Thanks!
Jimmy Bilbrey mine do the same and I have the super night too.i couldn't out the LEDs inside cause of the bumpers and scared the strip would fall on the tubes.not only that I couldn't get the chord to feed threw the whole of the grill.wish it was on the inside more.

Do you get any hum interference from having those lights so close to the amp transformer?
good question
From a random jackoff replying to your comment two years later:
Nope, I haven't noticed any increase in noise. Have at it, Hoss.
If they are flourescent then the cyclic hum will be apparent, but not from LEDs, as LEDs do not produce a cyclic hum.
I admit when I first saw your videos I judged you hard core but you know you're just a cool dude making videos of cool things!
I have these exact LED's in my studio! I love them. Using the remote is the coolest thing. Really cool setup with these lights Eric!

No problems with extra noise or interference because of the leds?

Don't think I'll do this for awhile but i like the personality.
I enjoy your vids because it gives an OG: a younger gigging person's prospective to the industry. Keep rockin' dude!
I would never have guessed you used coloured light to have the amp light up in different colours.....ground breaking..
