My first iteration was decorated and furnished with driftwood that I found on walks. The potential was there to really do it right. I went about halfway down that road, and then took a different turn. It can be done really right, though. I got far enough into it to see the possibility. Some hippy-artisan designs back in the 60s were great. Really great. Better than literally any van build I have seen in videos. Very artistic, very natural, very great to be in. Some of those old hippy school buses and treehouses had it right. I'm tempted to give it another try at some point. I love the feeling and the vibe. Right now I'm trying to go with things like water hyacinth baskets, nice realistic artificial flowers and foliage, Fanakin caddies, a sleek Skandanavian two-tiered coffee table, amber fairy lights and Vekkia lights (great lights, by the way - absolute winners), a nice vintage TV stand as a pantry/cupboard, some good dinnerware items, and a few other choice things. Might as well do it up a bit is the way I am approaching it. With the money I save on rent, I can afford to spend a bit on nice decor. I have freed myself from the compulsion to skimp and surround myself with cheapness and barely tolerable plastics, etc. I still have in mind doing an art-nouveau, 60s hippy-artisan type, applied-art build, with driftwood and found natural materials, maybe a little stained glass.... I would like to build something like that, just to do it. Just to create it. Just to bring it into existence. Like painting a very satisfying painting that has presented itself in one's mind....
Just in the last few days I tried something that really worked well. I transferred nearly all of the supplements, herbs, spices, etc. that I have (which is a lot) that were inside hard-shelled or bulky containers (bottles and jars mainly) into good quality Ziploc bags, and organized those inside baskets (water hyacinth baskets, approx. 5x7x14"), labelled them clearly with a sharpie (written on the built-in or pre-installed, pre-printed lsbels already on the bags, or on writable tape for those bags without pre-existing labels), neatly filed and organized inside the baskets. It might not sound like much, but it cut the space taken up by well over half, and succeeded in seriously de-cluttering. It really worked. It helped a lot to have found some great quality Ziploc bags. The best I have found are the one-quart Ziploc branded freezer bags. For smaller items and quantities, WM's house brand snack bags are the best I've found, after trying a variety of others. For very small items or amounts, there are bags made for crafters, beaders, and jewelry makers that are even smaller. Soft-sided collapsible containers in general just save a whole lot of space over the rigid ones. I also got four 18x18" throw pillow covers that I fill with clothes and an extra sleeping bag (for extra cold weather). They are made of a nice, thick, durable, natural fabric with nice designs. The heavy fabric looks much smoother and better than thinner fabrics, especially when the stuffing (mainly clothing) is a little uneven. It evens and smoothes out the unevenness. The pillows really look nice, like fully legitimate pillows.
I have ended up making a list of every container, and what is in it, and I update it when cleaning out or adding to. Otherwise I can forget what I have and where it is. I do use the system that Dee uses and it works!!! Otherwise you can get frustrated. Thanks Dee!!
When I was first started watching nomad videos, so many were about items needed ICE-in case of emergency, so I bought and packed accordingly. Those ICE items took up much needed room and I never used them. The one thing I didn’t take and ultimately needed was jumper cables!

As I try to downsize, I’m sorting stuff I will want/need into boxes, like hobbies, ready to go under my bed in my van. But I’m afraid I will a van’s worth of stuff that I “need” but don’t have room for!

So this was very useful, and it is now a sign for me that when we start to get cluttery, what needs a home? What is not working? Really liked this video, Dee! Safe travels, best, Lynne

I’m only part way through, but wanted to comment on your windscreen chip repair kit. Make sure that once it’s open you keep that tube in there upright. Mine was mostly flat in the glovebox (possibly it was learning downwards a bit) and all the fluid leaked out into the packet. It was contained by the packet, so there wasn’t a terrible mess, but then there was none left the next time I had a windscreen chip, so I had to find more. Also, it’s not cheap, so it was a bit of a waste!

I am getting ready to go out in my tiny van for a few weeks and this is a good reminder as I pack up, to think through what activities I will be doing and to think through a typical day on the road and think about how I can best design my systems for less stress and more peace. I am taking an ebike that folds up, but that means I have to redesign what has been working, because it will not work this time. I will need to adjust, but ultimately it will be worth it to have designed things to work for me, instead of being stubborn about how it was before. Excellent video Ms. D. We are a couple that travel parttime in a buildout Promaster City type van (in Europe it is called the Opel Combo D (see what I did there 😊) Both Promaster City and Opel Combo D are based off of the Fiat Doblo Maxi, but I digress. After getting our Combo it took about half a year for stuff to finally get their definite spot. Everything at the right time at their right spot in all the cupboard, shelves and other ‘ hiding’ places. With two people in the small place sometimes stuff gets placed somewhere wher the other person does not expect it and a search party by both is underway. 😂 But in general it works. Also, large storage places need to be cleaned out and reorganized on a regular basis because stuff wanders around and plays hide and seek when traveling, even though they are stored in little boxes. Especially our flatware on the left and the towels and cloths on the right love to visit one another and we don’t mind, we know they like one another very much. It makes for very relaxed traveling when you have that mindset. We’ ve been traveling off and on for the past four years in this way and we are both retired, married for 20 years and still going strong. We love our small van and the places it takes us all over Europe. This summer we are going to travel for two months in Scandinavia.
That is awesome! I can’t imagine being in my van with 2 people. But you are testimony to the fact that even in smaller vehicles, if done well, it is possible. Thanks for sharing this. Safe travels to you both☺️
I will start to implement this at home too, as I start the process of declutter and "moving out" I am currently watching my parents house, and there's no system for how the kitchen drawers are used. You have to walk around the kitchen island to get to the fridge (it's actually a cold room, which is packed with both food and used as another storage facility) so things easily gets lost from view in there. There's also 4 different places where the spices are stored. I could easily go on for ages, as my mom is a little hoarder, with probably undiagnosed adhd. I love her, but her system makes no sense for me.. 😂 Love the break we have in the cold weather, so I can work on the car, and feel jiddy about the upcoming season and getting back out, even though it will only be weekend trips.. 😃
My number one way of avoiding clutter: Store it at the store. I did not come up with that myself, but it works for me, yes I use TP everyday, but do I need four extra rolls? Now, if I only had a clear flat service to take inventory and sort.
👍💃🐞👍🤗 Great video ! Thank you for sharing all your helpful tips! It's applicable for an RV, a small apt & any home really 🤔🙂 Organization is key! ❤ this video!! Ty for sharing ! Be safe/ Be Happy & I'll see you on the next video 🙂

Wonderful tips! It was wonderful when I saw your van in Oregon, see your set up in person. I agree 100% with the design being easy to grab your day to day used stuff and if you haven't used it - unload it on someone who will. I'll take the windshield repair...lol.

Your suggestions for decluttering seem very logical and efficient. Good presentation of your ideas.
Well done and thanks for the info. !
Glad it was helpful!
I live full time in my hybrid and I have dig for things. So, thank you I’m planning to use your suggestions. Also, the horse pellets are a great idea!❤️
You are very welcome!
Safe travels to you both☺️
Hi Dee ! You've got it together.
Hahahah well not sure about that. But thanks.
Very helpful. I finally labeled my little bins that I take camping and this last trip it was so helpful!
Wonderful! That’s awesome🤗
U truly are an inspiration sweet lady
Thank you🥰
Thanks for the motivation to get some much needed organizing done on Roz Van! ❤
You are so welcome! You got this💪🏼
Organização é tudo! Parabéns! (Contagem-MG)
It does make a difference!!! Thank you.☺️
I will start to implement this at home too, as I start the process of declutter and "moving out"
I am currently watching my parents house, and there's no system for how the kitchen drawers are used.
Love the break we have in the cold weather, so I can work on the car, and feel jiddy about the upcoming season and getting back out, even though it will only be weekend trips.. 😃
I’m glad this was useful. Have fun with it!
Hi Dee
Hi Alan!
Thanks, Dee; great tips on organization and how to gain that freedom and establishing a stress free space. ❤
You are welcome, Ray!
Always the best advice, thank you Dee, weather is improving here in Michigan, cant wait to get my lil Ford rollin! safe travels
That’s awesome! Have fun 💃🏻🙌🏼💪🏼
My number one way of avoiding clutter: Store it at the store. I did not come up with that myself, but it works for me, yes I use TP everyday, but do I need four extra rolls? Now, if I only had a clear flat service to take inventory and sort.
Good advice!
this is also good for my small sticks and bricks! thank you for such great content. I am learning a lot.
You're very welcome! Glad it is helpful to you as you plan for your own journey🥰

Enjoying this video. Good topic. Thanks for the link. 🌻
Lovely to see you 😊 hope your well x
Thank you! 😊
Thank you Dee. Clutter makes me nervous.... though I'm still trying to stop the habit of slinging my dirty clothes in the front seat floorboard. I keep missing the basket. lol
You can do it! 😂
That was not only informative but also enjoyable to watch ! It's got me thinking about some of the space that's not easily accessible under my bed / bench platform .. I sure am not into having a storage unit on wheels ..lol
Glad it was helpful!☺️
I'm taking it all in and loving it.
Yay!☺️
I think I can. I think I can. :)
😂
Dear Dee lot of good tips as usual …as always thanks for sharing be safe and careful have good weekend!
Thank you! You too!
Great video. Easy and don't need to overthink it 👍
Glad you liked it!
Wonderful tips! It was wonderful when I saw your van in Oregon, see your set up in person. I agree 100% with the design being easy to grab your day to day used stuff and if you haven't used it - unload it on someone who will. I'll take the windshield repair...lol.
Thank you Sarah! Your set up is awesome too!!! I loved your IG when you showed it off. Beautiful 💃🏻💪🏼☺️
@@LadyBugout Thank you 🤗

Awesome video, Thank you so much
My pleasure!
I end up forgetting I have something then BUY it again 😑😑😑
I have a spreadsheet & # the drawers, bins & cubbies so there is a list for each, and a location on the master list by category.
Happens all the time😝
@@karinhart489 you're my hero.
Very useful thank you
You are welcome☺️
All good tips Dee:)
Glad it was helpful!
Where do you store the horse pellets when you first purchase the 40 pound bag?
Was wondering the same, that little zip bag is only one toilet set up for me, same with the bags, I change my toilet as soon as I use it to eliminate the odor. I only camp for 2/3 weeks at a time, can’t imagine going with so little for months.
We usually split it up between those we are traveling with.
did you know stove pellets are often cheaper and easier to get? An employee told me that when I could not get horse pellets are out of stock
@@MySonsMother good to know. Thanks 😊
Super helpful! 🥰🥰🥰
So glad!
Most EXCELLENT
Thank you, Carol! Glad you liked it😊
Great ideas but what did you do with the games etc basket?
Lol… I tried to show at the end. The video was getting long. It has a temporary home by my sofa on the rail there!
