First found out about ZEP when I worked maintenance for a management company. We ran maintenance for about 750+ condo style apts and the maintenance manager would always order this stuff. Whenever there was a clog he would go out himself and use this stuff. I took a zip lock bag of this stuff home once to use in my bathroom drain and holy Buddha in a gay orgy did this shit work. I knew it worked because you can hear it burning through whatever is clogging your drain. Makes a sizzling sound all the while a really bad smelling smoke follows. That stuff won't let you down I use it ever since.
Whether this makes a difference or not, but what I noticed on the video is the Drano clog was put nearly halfway on the pipe where as the zap clog was put a little higher on the pipe going out. I wonder what this was all about or was it just that when the people put the clogs in the demo pipes they weren't as accurate in placing the clogs in about the same places.
I tried this and all i got was formed and water over the drain and nothing happened.. I tried drano, tablets, liquld plummer, and i even tried snaked it and Zep nothing works..cheap ads crap for only money maker..
I tried zep just now and I still gotton the clogged still standing water.I even put half a bottle down in it..Nothing. only white formed..lot of water standing
Garry Sullivan talks in his Home improvement radio talk about a product called Drain-FX, please don't ever buy that it is horrible and does not work a waste of money
From what I can see, Drain FX is just a snake that is attached to the faucet so it also use the pressure of water to unclog a drain. So there's no way that it could not work unless you did not use it properly or you did not reach far enough to get close enough to the clog to actually snake it out.
Well at my local home depot... Granular Drano = $0.42/oz Zep Crystal Heat = $0.27/oz So Zep is almost half price, which is not surprizing since every Zep product I have ever bought is usually much cheaper tan other brands.
It's lye. As soon as you mix it with water it starts out-gassing. Then it makes contact with caked up lipids (fats) in the pipe and basically melts/cooks it away. The lye acts as a catalyst for a pretty strong reaction hence, the vapors.
True. Most vinegar people purchase is on 5% acidity. If you go to Home Depot and purchase the High Concentrate vinegar which is I think 30% (could be 20% but you get the point) THAT actually works. 5% standard white vinegar is all bark and no bite. High concentrated vinegar is a LIONS bite. WAY DIFFERENT STUFF. Cover your eyes that's my advice. But it's good and it works. )
Uh...... Okay, you obviously don't get the point. That surge doesn't mean anything at all. In fact, look at all the crystals left over, look at how the product have been dissolved, look at how there is still a lot of oil left behind, with no signs of every getting dissolved, eg: it's gonna happen again real soon as it was only there bottom of the ptrap, and the top is just as, if not more a pivotal area in a ptrap to have clean............ Think, genius.. not all of the particles go to the boys them back up, path of least resistance. If that top is still jammed, you have a bad problem, especially with proper flow
I had a severely clogged drain. I tried baking soda and vinegar . I tried instant power.. i tried plunging. I tried Draino. Nothing worked. I poured crystal heat into 2 inxhea of standing water..and 8 minutes later the clog was gone. Its awesome stuff!
@@SirHeadly84 The way it is supposed to work is you mix them and quickely plug the top of the drain and hold it down. The pressure build-up of the carbon dioxide being released will then push the clock down the pipe. Buuutttt most people just mix them and forget to plug the top so all the CO2 just comes out.
@@Ham549 That is 100% spot on truth. Imo, Zep doesn't emphasize the "why" for this action well enough. I believe most people think that covering the drain is an overly cautious and unnecessary action to limit any upsplash. They verify their wrong assumption by waiting and watching the drain for a few mins after they pour the crystals down. Once nothing happens they think, "okay, no need to cover the drain." WRONG. Good observation. I don't necessarily blame the consumer here. ZEP needs to write one or two sentences in the directions explaining why covering the drain is cruicial to the product working. )
I'm curious if this setup is a LITTLE bias. The ptrap on the right has the blockage slightly to the right. This cause the product to have more surface area to be activated by the water. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. However, the results are obvious. Totally dissolved a minute before the Drano brand broke through at all.... I wonder if you could get a swirl going, how much more effective it would be...
I worked for years as a maintenance man and I will say crystal heat and thrift both work, you just have to use more than suggested it has a very strong odor and should be careful around sensitive people
Not a fair comparison. The grease clog doesn't seem to be at the same location on both pipes before adding the product! 0:09 The clog on the right one is more to the right and there is more water before the grease! So the water pressure helps more to push the grease forward on the right pipe than the left one. Nuances matter when doing a comparison!

@@sniversnafer use it in combination with a 20 second plumber or make a fitting for an air line that can seal on top blast it down
I see 2 pounds of this stuff retails for $24.97 yet I can get 2 pounds of quality lye from dudadiesel for $22.41 🤔
the zep bottle tells you to only use a tablespoon full but they used way more.
Same with Drano.
That's a serious clog. It's like an inch or more of straight oil! :0
I think I poured too much of that stuff. Now my pipe is completely clogged. Any ideas what I should do?
@Red 🤣🤣🤣
maybe buy some drano? 🤣🤣 kidding....no suggestions sorry. Hope that worked out for 3 years ago. )
good product, when I tried couple of different brands only zep worked better than others.
I tried zep just now and I still gotton the clogged still standing water.I even put half a bottle down in it..Nothing. only white formed..lot of water standing
You was suppose to add hot water with drano not fair demo.
Garry Sullivan talks in his Home improvement radio talk about a product called Drain-FX, please don't ever buy that it is horrible and does not work a waste of money
what the hell does that have to do with drano or zep...thanks for advice on NOT paying $20 for a piece of plastic tubing and a fitting...

I got my pipes frozen at 11,000ft elevation i wonder if it will work for me? Like for frozen water
So they both work.... Good to know. Now, which is cheaper?

phuturephunk no, it has stuff to stop it from doing that plus the active ingredient doesn't attack steel, glass, or copper, just aluminum
Zep crystals has never failed me
?
Can u put this is a washer drain
Some Crisco and glass pipes. Now, try that with hair and 50 year old pipes. See you next week!
Would it work on old pipes
Try pure lye. Lye dosen't seem to do anything with cast iron or steel.
Useful for when you get those huge shit poles!
Never had any drain opener work any brand
Depends where the clog is, and what the pipe is clogged with.
Vinegar fizzes but doesn't work. They water them down

Mixing baking soda and vinegar is just stupid as those two chemicals will just neutralize each other into something useless.
