I'm glad you did a review on these lights in a typical scenario and included generic brands. It really helps to inform other filmmakers on a tight budget.
TomAntosFilms Saw this video a few weeks ago, and finally ordered my CAME LED light last week. It just got delivered today. AWESOME! Thank you, Tom Antos. I bought your Dinner Date DVD and a bunch of other stuff you endorsed. I've learned so much from you, bro! I hope you're negotiating a deal for a "Tom Antos Slider" or some other gear from these companies. They owe you.
Jak sie masz Tomaszku Antosiu !!!, I'm originally from Poland too !!! Thank you for all tutorials, I'm following them from your website, and learning a lot. This is the great way you teach, giving all resources, examples. Keep posting !!!!, I'm a new kid on the block, I need them all to learn more....
Also, I should mention, I have the Bescors. You identified the weaknesses. The mounting system on the tripods is not good. One of mine broke on a shoot. Also, one of the dimmers failed. Very cheaply constructed, in my view.
This from Katherine at Came-TV Americas: "as for the 1024 bi-color,when the color temperature control is set neither fully to 3200k or 5600k, there are just 512 bulbs lighting. when the color temperature control is set( 3200k - 5600k), all of the 1200 pcs bulbs will light."
Thanks for the review! I'm about to purchase the Bescors but the bi color version. Even though it's the cheapest of these 3 it will do the trick for me
So.. Since the 500 LED is as bright as the 1024 LED, and the 1024 LED mixes yellow and white LED's to change color temperature... Does that mean that the 1024 LED only has 512 white LED's?
The 1024 one has 512 white and 512 yellow... so if you use it at 5500K or at 2200K you only use 512. And if you mix them, you still use the intensity of 512. Isn't it?
Excellent tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to discuss and shoot differences between lights for us viewers. Really appreciate it. Do you know of any system with as much light output as the CAME model that isn't as big but can be mounted on my Rig for a 1 man videographer?
Does anyone know what the CAME-TV CRI rating is? Would love to see a comparison between these and the Dracast panels which are allegedly measured at 95 CRI.
Thanks for the great review. I'm interested in the CAME light, and I'm trying to sort out how much light they actually put out. At 3:23, you say "both of the lights are all the way up" and then talk about exposure being ISO 100, f1.8, 1/80th shutter. I'm trying to sort out how it would compare to an 800W tungsten in a softbox like I use now as far as raw light output. I know the softbox is cutting the light down, but I want to be sure an LED is going to be the same or stronger in output, especially if I want to diffuse the LED, which will obviously cut it down.
Hi tom. I got a tight budget to work on for lighting. I can either buy LED 500 or will have to spend more money than i budgeted for buying the LED 1000. I will mostly be using them for interview setup but will also on less ocasions use them as fill light on location. What would you reccomend
I know Tori the difference between shtter speed and frame rate. My qyestion was why you didnt follow the rule that says that the shutter speed has to be the doulbe of the frame rate..for example, if you shoot at 24fps you supposed to keep shutter speet at 48 or 50 ( in case you dont have magic lantern).
There are no rules in filmmaking! That's just a suggestion if you want to get the most typical shutter speed. But you can for sure use whatever shutter speed you want. Just experiment and you will see yourself. Also when doing a shot such as this interview where there isn't much motion anyway, then you shutter speed makes no difference since you won't really see the different shutter speed effects.
+Tom Antos (Tom Antos Films) haha perfect reply. Hey would you recommend $200 or less LED lights on Amazon. I'm a newbie, and trying not to spend too much money until I get better at what I'm doing. Any suggestions?
+Da Brofessionals buy a couple can lights from home depot for 9$/each. use 100watt bulbs and bounce it off white walls, objects, thru shower curtains, etc. cheapest option you will find.
+Blake Bauer thanks but ended up getting an Apurture Araman LED light. it's good for now, until I have enough money to get a light powerful enough to use as a proper key light
Hi Tom, Great review. Can i confirm you said you brought 1 x CRI Bi-Color 1024 and also 1 x High CRI Digital 5600K 1024? If this is correct could you tell me what was the reason behind that. Many Thanks.
Hi. I think your videos are terrific. I just ordered a Panasonic AF100 camera and I would like to get an all-in-one lens that gives autofocus, low-light capabilities, image stabilisation etc. In other words, what is the best lens you would recommend for that camera? Thanks a bundle.
Hey there, a question. How many of these lights do I need to do a complete home based studio photography for all works such as modelling, wedding, graduation, family and etc? I definitely need a LED lighting system instead the usual studio lights for my portrait works due to space constrain. The room is about 12 by 12 feet with 10 feet ceiling. Please kindly advise. Thanks!
Hi Tom, I'm considering going for the non-adjustable color balance model, because (stop me if I'm wrong) it would be double the brightness when set to full Daylight, or Tungsten balance, because it's using all 1024 LEDs. Correct?
Not really. Somehow the double color LED lights are about 15% weaker than the single color lights. I think it's cause they use stronger LED bulbs. Also you have to remember that if you ever wanted to use the single color LED light in tungsten temp then by putting the corrective gel on it you're also loosing a bit of the light since the gel is darker.
Wow I wish I would have seen this a few months back. I bought Flolights for $450 each - they are plenty bright, but no option for: color temperature, barn doors, or gels. I don't like the way the skin tones look when they are directly pointed at the talent
Hey I was just looking to buy the Flolight instead of the high price $$ Kino Flo but than was thinking about these Came lights. what did you like and dislike about the flolights and which brand did u get?
These Came lights looks alot like the Ikan lights. I was going to get one of those Ikan kits on B&H but am a bit concerned that they are so cheap with everything that comes with them.
Actually I dont understand why. You change the shutter speed that is supposed to be double of the framerate. Is maybe becouse in an interview there is not a lot of action, movement?
No I change the shutter speed which is HOW LONG each frame is exposed. Has nothing to do with frame rate. Frame rate is how many frames you shoot per second.
Nice tutorials Tom, I've always been a great disciple of yours. Please any info about the Aputure Amaran AL-528W AL-528S AL-528C LED Video Light ? For the barn door, I suggest one use a Rosco Matte black cinefoil to control the light spillage. Cheers.
They're ok. They allow you to use those popular Sony batteries which is great cuz those are cheap :) But I just don't like that in order to mount those lights you have to use that tripod screw like the small Bescor lights I review here.
hi great video, could you compare those lights with the traditional cheap softboxes? I'm trying to make a decision betwen those two, led or softbox light. Thanks
great video. exactly the kind of video about lights i was looking for :) these Came lights seem great and would love to buy them. However, only thing i'm worried about a bit is ordering their stuff all the way from China. cannot find that much info about the company. it's quite an investment but seems like a bit of a risk to order from there with such little info on them. Anyone got experience with ordering their products?
Hi Tanks for this video. I'm based in UK London. What lighting would you recommend for filming 'Product filming the effect I'm trying to re-create is something like Low key - one light look' with product turning to reveal. You know what I mean? I am looking into Lighting to buy but not sure which route to take LED or CCFL or Kinoflo? Plz help.
I see that you're changing the shutter speed a bit. Does it not need to stay the same depending on the frame rate? E.g. 1/50 for 24fps, 1/120 for 60fps etc.
I know to get the "cinematic" look the shutter speed needs to be double but from this video I'm thinking that I need to experiment with this a little. I have found in many of my clips that I get more motion blur thank I would like, especially when handheld and never really thought of changing shutter speeds but I think I need to experiment a little - it would be great if Tom Antos or Dave Dugdale could weigh in on this.
just depend on what kind of affect you want, i've found that going to 1/40 is acceptable but i wouldn't go any lower as it cause a smear/dream affect. It really depends on what your going for, like with many film making tips, once you now the rule you can understand the best way to "break" them.
You can use any shutter speed and get a cinematic look. Shutter speed just changes the motion blur. Slower Shutter speed the more motion blur is visible. If you don't want to have images that look so blury that they almost look dreamy then the general rule is that you should double your FRAME RATE to get an average looking motion blur. So if filming at 24fps set your shutter speed as close to 1/50th sec. as possible. If you want sharper looking images you should increase the shutter speed. So 1/100th or even 1/500th sec. Of crouse if you're shooting at 24 fps you will not be able to get a shutter speed below 1/24th of a second.
More Than A Snap Shot it does matter... different shutter speed produces different effect, but there is no RULES in filmmaking. You can do what you want when that's the look you want. Every top cinematographer shoots at all kinds of shutter speeds. Depends what look he wants. Here is a video that talks about that. Go to about the mid point of the video to see me talk about shutter speed: @watch?v=L0n4pyhx7Dk&lc=z124t1c55vndylwts23gyxhpzsicxj00n
Tom Antos Thanks Tom. I really enjoyed your lighting class that I bought a few weeks ago. The link you posted for the shutter speed video doesn't seem to work.
Hey Antos, another great product demo. One question I have - when I setup interviews the way you did, I always get a lot of noise in the background even though I dont use barn doors to refuse spill. I was wondering if you use background lights in your setup?
Sometimes I use an extra light on the background. In this setup I didn't feel like I needed a background light because the lights that are there in the ceiling did a nice job lighting the background
awesome Tom!!! :D I have a softbox right now, and I really, really want to get some of those CAME lights but they are a little above my price range. maybe I save up for a little bit and then get them :)
Soft box is a must... and also some hard lights if you can afford them. It's worth saving up for a good light that will last you instead of buying something cheap. Unless you can get the cheap light for free :)
TomAntosFilms thanks or replying!!! :) yes, I know, I really try to get high quality equipment instead of lots of crappy stuff. But right now, what I REALLY need to get is a good video editing software. I know this may sound terrible, but right now I have only been using IMovie!!! I want to get Final Cut Pro or possibly Adobe Premiere soon. I do have a really awesome green screen and video camera though, and of course the softbox is really awesome.
I'm not by any means faulting you Tom don't get me wrong. I just can't believe that 400+ dollars is "affordable" I'll be staying with my hot regular lights.
Hi Tom! Great and detailed review . I was looking for the CRI of these CAME lights, but I didnt find nothing on the web. Do you have any information about CRI. Thank you!!
great videos…i like the CAME light but aren't the panels with non-adjustable color temperature more powerful since you have all 1024 leds lighting up at the same time, as opposed to be split in half between warm and day light ? as others mentioned please do keep it up :)
The one with dual color LEDs is a bit weaker than the other one, but the difference is not much. I measured and it was around 15% weaker. Not sure why. Could have something to do with the type of LED's that are used in the bicolor lights. Maybe they're more powerful LEDs that's why that light is a bit more expensive.
Tom Antos Thank you for your answer Tom. For the one with single colour temperature, do you have a rough idea about how much light is lost after converting from 5400k to 3200k? I have a nice dedolight kit, but it becomes quite weak if I want to convert it to daylight.
Sorry Mark, but I haven't used those lights myself so I can't honestly comment. So far all the products Ive gotten from CAME are very good so hopefully those 1500w LED's are the same.
Tom (or anyone) can you do a review with the lower costing Led lights like those from Bestlight, Studiopro and Aputure Amaran? Would love to see the quality because they are at a very good price for most budget shooters. Anyway can you add gels to Led lights that may produce a greenish cast to correct the color? If so how good of a job would it do, and would you recommend doing this?
Seems like they all work reasonably well, although the quality of light is a little nasty on all of them. For softening and controlling them, have you tried Airbox Inflatable Softboxes with them? They're softboxes that work with all of those brands of panel, and priced to go along with these more budget LED panels. For control, they have light control grids available so you can direct the light once you've softened Here's the link to the softboxes that fit this size of panel. airboxlights.com/product-category/model-1x1-products/ Tom, contact me if you're interested in testing one out.
For truly affordable LED that are also very usable quality lights that can be remote controlled by included remote or with your smartphone, check out the Yongnuo line: YN-300, 600 & 900
Even the first light is a generic light with a rebranding. This is obviously a sponsor piece. Go watch some other videos to find good lights for less, you'll probably pay between a half to a quarter of what they charge.
I'm glad you did a review on these lights in a typical scenario and included generic brands. It really helps to inform other filmmakers on a tight budget.
Can you make a 2019 version of this video?
Hi friend. Please advise me to buy a light. I can not understand what is better because it is bad know English

Nice to see Dave here on Toms channel. My two favorite video channel guys
DJNaydee They're both good! But Film Riot is the best!
Tom, these reviews are just the best. I've used several of them.
Thanks so much. This video was exactly what I was looking for!!
Dude, thanks so much. This was incredibly helpful for showing how lighting works as well as camera settings.
Also, I should mention, I have the Bescors. You identified the weaknesses. The mounting system on the tripods is not good. One of mine broke on a shoot. Also, one of the dimmers failed. Very cheaply constructed, in my view.
This from Katherine at Came-TV Americas:

So.. Since the 500 LED is as bright as the 1024 LED, and the 1024 LED mixes yellow and white LED's to change color temperature... Does that mean that the 1024 LED only has 512 white LED's?
I went to the company site and noticed they are using this video to promote the lights :)
The 1024 one has 512 white and 512 yellow... so if you use it at 5500K or at 2200K you only use 512. And if you mix them, you still use the intensity of 512. Isn't it?
Every time I search for something photography/video related, Tom Antos comes up - you're a legend Tom. Keep up the good work and thanks.
This was an awesome review. Definitely gave me insight into my upcoming video lighting purchase. Thanks!
Excellent tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to discuss and shoot differences between lights for us viewers. Really appreciate it. Do you know of any system with as much light output as the CAME model that isn't as big but can be mounted on my Rig for a 1 man videographer?
How well would this work to flood? Can I use these to replace an HMI/par? Also does this have a green tint as other LED's do?
Does anyone know what the CAME-TV CRI rating is? Would love to see a comparison between these and the Dracast panels which are allegedly measured at 95 CRI.
Awesome information! I had planned on getting the basic lights from cowboy but looks like the CAME is a way better deal.
Thanks for the great review. I'm interested in the CAME light, and I'm trying to sort out how much light they actually put out. Tom I need new lights. What are the difference between leds light like the came compared to the kino flo /flolight
I guess that to control the shutter speed like that you are using Magic Lantern firmware
Wow I wish I would have seen this a few months back. I bought Flolights for $450 each - they are plenty bright, but no option for: color temperature, barn doors, or gels. I don't like the way the skin tones look when they are directly pointed at the talent

I ordered their lights and their steadicam ... had no problem with their company so far.
Tom Antos ordered the lights eventually. received them within a week. everything went great. really happy with them! thanks tom
Shutter Speed at 1/40? If you are shooting at 24fps then your shutter should be at least 1/50, and at 30fps should be 1/60.
Have you tried mixing the light from the Came light with the Bescor? Is the color close enough to use the lights simultaneously?
NVmultimedia Yup.... ive shot a bunch of music videos with both of these at the same time and the light temps work great

$400 range is a low price. For my production company I bought 3 Dracast bicolor led lights and there more then $1200 a piece.
Hi Tom! Great and detailed review . I was looking for the CRI of these CAME lights, but I didnt find nothing on the web. Do you have any information about CRI. Thank you!!
what if your panel was RGB LEDs? You could dial the spectrum.
great videos…i like the CAME light but aren't the panels with non-adjustable color temperature more powerful since you have all 1024 leds lighting up at the same time, as opposed to be split in half between warm and day light ? as others mentioned please do keep it up :)

....I mean if you had it set to 5600k and used a CTO gel, it would be using all 1024 LEDs.
Ok ;) I got it. Thank you Tom.

Hi Tom,
Great review! Was wondering if you had an opinion on the Came 1500w LED spotlight?
Thanks!
mark
Sorry Mark, but I haven't used those lights myself so I can't honestly comment. So far all the products Ive gotten from CAME are very good so hopefully those 1500w LED's are the same.
What kind of footage is this? 720 or 1080?
She is completely out of focus.
The amazon link doesn't seem to display these lights.
Looks like they all sold out already on Amazon.com try the ebay link or just go to the company website and order directly from them.
Dean Holder - check out other direct branded lights like Neewer and Viltrox. Much better deals and often either the same design or better designs.
Congrats for this video!
Seems like they all work reasonably well, although the quality of light is a little nasty on all of them. For softening and controlling them, have you tried Airbox Inflatable Softboxes with them? They're softboxes that work with all of those brands of panel, and priced to go along with these more budget LED panels. For control, they have light control grids available so you can direct the light once you've softened Here's the link to the softboxes that fit this size of panel. airboxlights.com/product-category/model-1x1-products/
Tom, contact me if you're interested in testing one out.
thanks man, that was really helpful
are these completely silent?
Do you think this Cametv light is good for shooting music videos?
Yes, any led lights will bring up your production value
this video is 2 years old. do you think you're going to do a revised version?
And the Amazon and eBay links are outdated...
Well done! Thank you.

Robert T. Johnson money
Oh boy, I can afford one light.
$870 is not Cheap for most people.!
Even the first light is a generic light with a rebranding. This is obviously a sponsor piece. Go watch some other videos to find good lights for less, you'll probably pay between a half to a quarter of what they charge.
Lots of fickering those Came LEDs produce :(
Tom Antos, you my nigga
Hope that's a compliment... if so thanks!!! :)
