We grew up seeing them.most of my uncle's and aunts had them in the house. Usually something to deal with a snake or deal with rabbits on the property or in some cases pigs. Didn't really fire a rifle until I was 17. Here in Australia in the 70s they used to sell guns and ammo at our Kmart. Dad remembers them having dynamite at the hardware. My uncle was shooting his dinner before he got to 8. He used to shoot rabbits with a single shot bolt action, open sight 22 . As he got older he progressed to shooting feral pigs with it. My first boss told me he used to travel to school cadets via train with a 22 over his shoulder for target practice. Kids here were raised to be useful before they finished primary school. They had to be.My cousins were driving the farm ute to check gates and feed water cattle as soon as they could see over the dash. They usually had a cushion under their bum. That's about when they learnt how to use a firearm too. Things were very different back when things actually made sense.😊
