well, lanius are damn OP. Today, I managed to get four lanius crewmembers on my ship, a teleporter, dna storage, teleport healing, and zlotan sheild bypass. It was the best thing ever. Given a choice between 4 mantis and four zlotan boarding parties, I'd choose those air-sucking aliens every goddamn time. you can teleport them into the endgame boss' shield room, wait for the system to break, then spam pike beam and laugh.
@@Mario2980 You gotta have an "unless" or else it's OP! ;) What you can do is put it first in the list so if you lose just a couple of bars it can remain active.(assuming you have multiple weapons)
If you sit in an asteroid field after a battle, you can level up all your crew in the pilot, shield and engine skills to max. It takes quite a while, but by swapping crew around while you either evade or take hits, as long as you have the shields for it, you can level everyone up in all three skills.
IllaStein Update. They must have patched that, because it no longer works. However, if you are able to face off against a ship that cannot penetrate your shields, you can still do this. Just remember to not shoot back or give them any reason to flee. As long as they have no reason to leave the fight, they will continue to pew pew your shields no matter how futile the effort.
(Mid-video spoilers) *whistle* A weapon pre-igniter AND a chain vulcan. That is a very nice combo. One I've never had the good fortune to run into myself. Curse you Jon!
I have been playing advanced mode FTL for weeks and I still learned a ton of things about advanced from this video! Hacking and how to use it sensibly makes way more sense now (I assume not too much has changed about it since 2014......)
One of the really fun combo's is to firebomb a room on their ship, and then mind-control the guy who goes to fix it, since he'll shoot at his teammates that try and deal with the fire and him.
The lack of awareness is just as frustrating today, in 2021, as it was in this video 7 years ago. I literally screamed at my phone “YOuR CrEw mEmber IS GOING to DIE!! JesuS Christ YoU eVEN PAUsEd the DAMN game!!!”
The charger weapons can be good or bad, based on how you use them. For example, having a single charge weapon you may want to let it charge all the way before firing it to take down tough shields, but they take a VERY long time to build all their charges. On the other hand, if you have say, four of them, the five second charge time is very quick, so you can actually take down shields and other systems faster than they can repair/recharge if you just auto fire them.
So far, the only victory I've had was with the Red-Tail. I had a cloning bay, crew transport, cloning bay backup, zoltan shield, and zoltan shield bypass, along with a single breach bomb mk2, and 2 mantis crew, maxed out engines, and 3 shields. The zoltan shield protects against the triple rockets until the mantis crew can kill it, the shield bypass lets you do it on the third form, the cloning bay keeps the boarding party alive till you manage to kill off all the crew except the one on the triple laser, and the breach bomb lets you take down the med bay.
e way you get the four legged guys is you come across a lanius with a translator and you can offer to buy the translator, which gives you a new lanius crewmember named "translator" I've never actually had both encounters in the same run so I'm not sure what you get but that's how you do it.
The lanius is not a robot species, I thought they were anaerobic and in turn needed more air to survive. I guess theyre like the robot from terminator 2?
Scrap Recovery Arm is a bit of a trap, I feel. If you buy it for 50s, you don't break even until you get 500s with it. Then, you'd need to earn ANOTHER 500s for it to net you a 50s profit. That's a pretty long wait before it starts to pay off. You can, of course, sell it for 25s at any time, which means you can net that 50s profit after 750s, but it still takes some time. Now, you might say "Well, it's a long term investment. It pays off later in exchange for some cost now." However, purchasing something else right now will let you get more blue events, avoid damage, or save using missiles and drones. They can potentially save you that 50s in the long run because of this, not to mention making sure you can actually survive to earn 1000s. Buying it is questionable, I feel. While you can sell it to break even at only 250 base scrap earned, if times get tough, it's just kinda high-risk low reward. Only really worth purchasing as a 'win-more' button, if you have a lot of scrap, such that you can afford to 'invest' some credits for later. But even then... you're still better off filling that third systems slot with something else.
+RRW Yeah, true. I'll agree that investing in the Arm early will probably give you a net gain by the end of the game (and definitely will if it's for free), but there's also opportunity cost to consider. You can only have 3 Augmentations, after all and some of them are OP as hell.
I found my best loadout to include two Ion Bombs combined with the new augmentation that gives you a 50% chance of not using a missile. Best way to lock the damn thing down.
I could kill him with the thing that shoots 2 missiles and using the 3 shot laser, plus some stuff I can't remember. It definitely had the Ion Bomb I think.I had the Mark 2 defense drone also. That thing was wonderful.
Metal Mario Lord Yeah, the Pegasus is surprisingly brutal. It is lovely. It definitely matters when the Flagship has both missile salvos and an ion weapon, which means your shields have the potential to mean nothing.
Steve really must of pissed someone off at high command to get him assigned with The Lanius
The Lanius must be hated if they got stuck with a human.
"The Steve unit keeps closing all the doors. Why does it do this? The Steve unit must be defective. They gave us a defective Steve unit."

thetntm my tactics for his is to just send em all to life suport room and if they try repairing it they will die if they dont they will die
Zoltans not zlotans
Now add a crystal for lockdown.
wow, the vulcan is probably one of the best weapon in the game and with the weapon pre-igniter is a beast and you can destroy the flagship very easily
unless it gets damaged or ioned, then gotta work your way to 5 shots again ;n;
+salas misto watamote!

+DarkKnightKaraco I'm afraid you may be about a year late.
I know. Its just one of those moments where your watching and your like. Yelling at the screen. You know it doesn't help but it makes you feel better.
DarkKnightKaraco Fair enough.
+DarkKnightKaraco also, i'll point out that it was broken at the time
count yourself lucky for 1 year late. I'm 4 years late
I once was able to get three flak cannons, that was a complete massacre. The flagship didn't stand a chance!

MTN does FTL? Awesome!! 💛
Why do the Lanius, a species who do not need oxygen to survive, have a ship with a built-in oxygen generator?
It's a federation ship that was made by the Lanius. O2 generators are standard on federation ships. The Lanius made a custom order.
The lanius is not a robot species, I thought they were anaerobic and in turn needed more air to survive. I guess theyre like the robot from terminator 2?

You will always sell it so it only takes 250 scrap.
What about the blue events that you get BECAUSE you have the arm?
+RRW There's only one such event for the Arm, if I remember correctly. And that event has other blue options as well.
Alex 0597 I remember it being not uncommon to jump into a sector and get the blue option to use the arm to get some scrap.

Why are the engines still at lvl 1? they give a good chance at evading missiles and lazers
You can select your weapons with 1 2 3 4 btw
And hit A to toggle Autofire.
