I love that you mentioned the cringy Diasporas savior complex! When I first lived in Durban I came with it. I was going to “help people.” But realized I was the one that needed the helping! I needed to slow down and listen! Ask questions, and listen! Take my time! Learn how to greet people properly and show respect before I did ANYTHING! I learned I had adopted some colonizing ways and I needed to drop them desperately! 5 years later and I’m still learning! But my continental brothers and sisters have been incredibly patient with me! I TRULY love SA! And recognized I needed to start healing before I “help” anybody.

I think there is a lot of dishonesty in these conversations about how AAs come to Africa. African countries as you guys said are very different from the West but AAs are not backed by America when coming to Africa. Nor are there government ran programs that are in charge of finding housing, host-families and even welfare programs for African Americans coming to Africa. It less to do with black Americans bad attitude or lack of research there is no real AA diaspora to really cushion their transition. We really need to stop this narrative that African Americans are "Innate Devils" trying to ruin every other black countries lives. Africans even in Africa complain about how businesses are rain in Africa just as black Americans complain about black businesses in America. Many Africans come to the states and also don't understand the complexity of racism and how it has gravely impacted African Americans economic mobility. And telling someone to simply study hard with the resources to thrive are futile.

Hi Ashley, I find these days navigating a space where we have a lot of internationals gracing our shores, me personally I am so sorry to say but Americans are some of my least favourite people to deal with due to their perceived arrogance. As you mentioned to your viewers that they need to try and understand the space they are entering. We are perfectly happy the way we are. We take great pride in who we are as a people.
When people visit they need to respect our ways and if they are not happy with the way things are they then need to leave.
We are very welcoming as a people and we love to share but I believe that in time to come resentment will build up towards outsiders as they purchase the best of what our land has to offer which of course is no fault of the outsider but there should be some sort of regulation as to how much/or how many outsiders may purchase or set up businesses in our country.
I am speaking as a South African. Also South Africa is one of the most Westernised/Cosmopolitan countries on the continent and everyone is inviting each other here to operate their businesses. How much is too much. The locals I think are straining at the seams and I personally think this is an implosion waiting to happen.
Always appreciate your views, thought I’d share my views here too.

they just need to remember that despite their history with the country they are visitors to a new country that they basically no nothing about and just like any other country they would move to be respectful of that country culture and build their lives around that not come in and think they can change it to their liking. It's simple in some ways. Realize that unless you willing to conform to the ways of that country. And add something to the country that is not unacceptable to that new African country you move to.
If you can't do that then don't move to that country if you wanted to be very high level of American way of doing things. Or the quality that's done in America that the east that a lot of things are done. Don't go to Africa and probably don't go to Moe's countries in the world.
Also some of the laws that you think are crazy in that country because the way they look at things don't go to that country.
It even needs to be a natural fit with the country you goes to that you blend in pretty good. Or you willing to change your whole way of doing things if that is what it takes and if that's what you can live with peacefully and happily
I wouldn't move to any African country where I have to bend over backwards so much. That I'm not happy, or I feel like I'm always getting scammed, I'm a second class citizen. To hell with that, it would be best to stay in America. The United States of America. And maybe just live over there part-time when I need a break from something

I agree with you when you say, "Take time to understand the place". But my own take of the South African situation is, understand the South African politics and how are they linked to Black South African mentality or psychology. Ask yourself one question, "Why Black South Africans do not support (buy from each other) each other in business? The answer to this will explain why there are few Black South Africans that are successful in business. It will also explain why township economy is not owned by Black South Africans. In addition to this, I identify three things that inhibit Black South Africans from being successful in business, namely, lack of access to finance, markets and too much regulation. You will not know this until you are in South Africa.

I'm so glad you're saying this. Over the past few years, I've seen Americans just be unrealistic and having odd expectations and ignore geography and politics. It's also part of the reason many unfortunately won't choose South Africa. There's a lot of structure here that requires a lot from a person.. There's a African fantacy and it's sad

Part of that is people lying to black Americans about how progressive Africa is to shed the image of Africa being poor. There has to be some sort of middle ground conversation about South Africa and other African countries like "No Africa isn't dirt poor we have this and that but when doing business or moving here you can't expect this or that"

What about the white people in SA who say blacks can't live in their neighborhood. I forgot the name of the area, but I saw only white people all the staff are white, they don't even want black housekeepers, so I feel if they are places black people can't go in south Africa then it's not for me, but the black people don't talk about this.
I see this carribean country which has many hotels for the white people who wanted the beaches for the whites, but the government says no

The simple fact is that we do not have our own independent territory or land base where can build and live under our own societal values, standard, rules and regulations. It wont start out perfect, but it would be a start. This is the only thing that our Pan African leadership and community should be concerned with and trying to implement in this day and time.

It bothers me when certain African Americans come to Europe, like the UK, and downplay the struggles experienced by Black individuals in those countries, especially the ones who have been there for generations. I recently watched a RUclips of an African American couple who relocated to the UK claiming there's no racism here, seemingly to please a white audience in their comments. To me, this undermines someone's lived experiences, and it's not something I would do to an African American in the US, even if I have traveled there multiple times to visit family and not experienced racism.
