    • @Blissful-es1kk
      @Blissful-es1kk 3 месяца назад +4

      I can't say that America has been unfair to me. In truth, it has provided a lot (i.e. very elite (free) college and grad school education, wonderful career and the ability to invest heavily in one of the best markets in the world, which allowed me to actualize real gains to become financially independent). However, I do acknowledge that there are many challenges in the U.S., particularly for those of us, who weren't taught how to avoid the societal traps. Yes, there's also some discrimination and micro aggressions, but I tend to socialize with like minded people and I try my best, when out and about, not to feed into negative energy.
      I am in no way stating that everyone has enjoyed the same, as I have, but I am just shedding light on the fact that some of us do have it good. I would however visit (and possibly live half the year in another country), but the U.S. will always be my home base.

    As a South African we always say that one of the quietest massacres ever done to our American brothers and sisters is the intentional deletion of your surnames, history and therefore connection to your past. We are proud that they have been able to resurrected this into a culture that is celebrated the world over however it is a young culture and because of its youth, most of the themes of that culture are interpreted instead being ingrained. Themes such as safety, wealth and even the right to exist as a people is more of an interpretation rather than a cultural constant that informs your conviction. I hear your pain Ashley but the solutions to some of your cries can only be resolved through time. The solutions to the Black American crisis have to be repeated, reinstated and reapplied over generations for many years in order to be ingrained into the fabric of your society. South Africa is also experiencing something similar however our connection to our past was disturbed rather than deleted. That said, some of the effects of which require us to build new interpretations, agree on those interpretations and repeat them over multiple generations before we can see an end to some our problematic themes such as Gender Based Violence, Poverty and our attitude towards crime. Have hope, our societies are strong and it will get better. Love your content as always ❤🇿🇦

      Why should Black Americans be the only people in the world whose destiny has to be tied to one nation? You want to make it better, well that’s good. But a lot of what you are working for - basic human dignity - is available elsewhere. You keep waiting for the arc of the moral universe to eventually bend towards justice while other people in the world are eating mangoes and croissants not worried at all that their children will be murdered at a traffic stop.

    I live in the US and would agree that we are in a crisis. But if you look at our history we’ve never not been in a crisis and so we’ve found ways to continue to be and sometimes even thrive under those conditions. Which sucks but speaks to our ability to adapt under some of any type of circumstance. I’m into family history research and have traced some of my roots through DNA testing back to Africa, have visited west Africa twice and have had an interest in the continent. But in looking around and observing many African Americans I think there is a connection to Africa but an even deeper connection to the US. I think there are efforts to mask how bad things actually are here in the US. People are kept in the dark and don’t really know or don’t want to know. I also feel like the US wouldn’t want many of us to leave because there has always been a want to keep someone (us) in the bottom caste to serve them and because of generational prejudices, unless they can replace us. So there are a lot of moving parts. But also if you are living in Black America - there are safe or safer places to be in the US and if you can situate yourself there, life can be better, descent even. But a lot of people don’t have, regardless of race and are also not in a position to travel or move right away. Some people are here watching over elders or never even thought of a move outside of their country let alone their city or state. For those who remain, maybe they can still connect with Africans and those who have moved to the continent for networking and business opportunity and investment. And for all who are planning to make the move or who have already done so, I wish the best for you.

    • @Blissful-es1kk
      @Blissful-es1kk 3 месяца назад +9

      They are fleeing, because they lack opportunities. I think many countries in Africa are nice to live in, but the kicker is, you need money to live well and many Africans, do not have money and are locked out of many opportunities to make money in their home countries.
      Some Black Americans, may enjoy living in South Africa, while earning U.S. dollars, since they are able to capitalize off of the fact that 1 dollar = ~19 rands. This means that your money goes much further there, than in the U.S.
