I know this video was already loaded with details but I feel that you should’ve mentioned the 2009 and 2013 Confederations Cup. Spain dominated the 2009 Confed Cup only to surprisingly lose to the US in the semis which allowed del Bosque to iron out any lingering problems before the World Cup. Similarly at the 2013 Confed Cup, Spain dominated again (and even beat Italy again on penalties) but were absolutely blown apart by the hosts Brazil, 3-0 in the final. This was the first time this Spanish team had been throughly outplayed. Yes, they lost the odd game here and there but this time Brazil exposed them. Considering this occurred only a month and half after Bayern beat Barcelona 7-0, it was a signal of changing times and warning for what would happen at the World Cup next year .
You are absolutely right, I should've covered this. My next video is actually on the history of the Confederations Cup, so I talk a bit about Spain in 2009 and 2013. I don't know how I managed to miss it out in this video, but always learning and improving my research! Thanks for watching :)
@@intothefray12 That’s awesome man! I’m really excited for that video then, I really loved the Confederations Cup especially the 2013 edition. It was a perfect tournament
Yeah kinda, it only gets exciting if someone gave the ball to villa. But most of the time, it's the game of recycling possession. The 2012 team played similar to the 2008 team, lots of aggressive quick play.
Yeah, cuz the quick, direct and vertical football, the infamous 'la Furia' earned them so many titles in the past, they were basically England, with the difference they couldn't get past any quarter finals, England at least had a few semifinals. Controlling the game, aka 'boring football' is what actually elevated them to their greatest era.
Hi mate. Recently stumbled upon your channel and I have to say I love your videos. They are very entertaining to watch but are also thoroughly researched, very informative and detailed. You have a new subscriber. Keep up the great work. 😄
Its fascinating how intrinsically tied Spain National team is with Barcelona. The fortunes of NT are totally dependent on the crop coming through from Barca. Closest thing to this would be German teams link with Bayern Munich.
There is a misconception both in this video and in general. The Spanish national team adopted tiki-taka style football around 2005 and won the Euros in June 2008. Guardiola started training Barcelona in September 2008 AFTER Spain had won Euro 2008. It was Frank Rijkaard's Barcelona that won the 2005-2006 champions league the one that influenced Aragones to change the style of the national team not Guardiola who back then was still training Barcelona Youth team.
Hi Juan, I don't think I make that misconception here. I state in the video that before 2008, Pep was coaching Barca B and the impression he was making there (that ultimately led to him replacing Frank). I also don't allege that Pep changed the style, just that there was synergy between the two styles that worked in tandem throughout the same time period. I hope this clears things up. Thank you for watching my video :)
Another awesome video with a deep dive into the subject, you deserve more subscribers, sharing this to my crew. Waiting for the Croatia vid with baited breath! Keep it up!
I think Heitinga’s red card was probably the reason Spain finally managed to break the scoreless stalemate a few minutes later, with Iniesta’s famous goal.
I'm sure, if I was the coach of Barcelona in 2010, I would have won at least La Liga, and the all of you. I would just say "guys, do what you do"! Barcelona (2009-2015)... the best team ever existed
Italy didn't only defend that match in 2008. They had major chances, maybe more than Spain. True, they defended, but they didn't stay 120 mins in their box. Toni just couldn't capitalize several chances and Spain defenders also saved a goal on the line. Come on man
@@intothefray12 great to hear. I love your work so far. Congrats 👏 there's a real thirst for nostalgic football. Football was just so much better in the naughties .

Spain passed teams to death much like Barca (same spine). Very effective until 2014 World Cup. Haven’t been the same since and it looks like Scotland will pip them to first place in the qualifiers.
1. How de Jong didn"t get an instant red card for kicking Alonso in the chest still baffles me. 2. Spain lining up against Italy without a striker should've been a criminal offense.
We Germans had a great generation back then but unfortunately Spain had one of the best ever in football and no other national team could compete with them.
Yep, Germany were immense in 2010, but couldn't find an answer to Spain then, but four years later they could. Excited for the next gen of Germany though to come...
It’s funny because you crap on France 🇫🇷 is Spain a more accomplished national team then france tell me how many years as Spain failed in World Cup the we’re nock out of the world many times you highlighted france failure you should do the same for Spain on England
I think this is disingenuous. I go to great lengths in this video to explain how much Spain underperformed before 2006 and how disappointing they've been since Del Bosque. I have many great things to say about France in future videos. The reason Frances failure was so noteworthy is because of how good they usually are. I have more videos on World Cup '98, Euro 2000, World Cup 2018 to come to talk how great France are. There's plenty to talk about in the way of England too, I'm not adverse to covering any of it. I have no agenda against any nation. Thank you watching all the same though.

Spain weren't knocked out by Japan in the 2022 WC. That was a group stage match. They were knocked out by Morocco on penalties.
You're absolutely right. My apologies.
Germany, Ironically was tho and it wasn't on penalties, it was in the group stage
14:59 I'm still shocked to this day that Nigel De Jong did not get a red card on that kick on Xabi Alonso
Crazy isn't it. With another referee there could have been 3-4 red cards!
He was always a butcher.
Keep up the good work my friends, your video is fantastic

I think we have a bright future ahead with Gavi, Pedri, Lamine Yamal, Balde, etc. Part two of the rise of Barcelona and Spain could be just ahead.
Yep, really interesting to see the comparison between the two. Hopefully they don't feel the weight of pressure of being compared to the greats;
