Thanks for the video. Helped while working on my wife's car. I've been doing this for 40 years (shade tree), you had some fresh ideas. Parking brake adjustment and use of the silicone grease were spot on.

Very nice job. I've been working on anything with an engine for most of my life and now enjoy watching other's work!

    Good video.
Fyi, check other RUclips videos for the same job on the crv.
Sometimes the inner pads don't have those clips that clip in to the piston.
It goes by manufacturer I suppose.
What I'm trying to say is whoever did your brakes realizes this, and probably just tore them off.
Should they have kept them on? Sure.

Great video I thought. I do expect the rotor to be hard to get off. In the past only a bigger hammer worked

For the ebrake adjustment, once you “loosen” up the cog to make the rotor become free, do you have to tighten up that cog once you put the new rotor on manually with a flathead or is it fine just leaving it alone?

Oh, I forgot. To get the camera to focus when the auto focus is all over the place, just put your hand behind the object you are trying to focus on. Have your hand palm to camera with object in front.
    The cam will then focus.
Also, may I ask where you bought Molyslip silicone lube??

What direction do you spin the ebrake cog to loosen.

Very informative video . I still have a question to ask you , does E-brake notch still need to adjust if the rotor spin freely ?
    Thanks for sharing

    • @Enthusiast416
      @Enthusiast416  3 года назад

Yes! It may be too loose. Tighten it till the rotor doesn't spin and slowly spin it off untill it's free spinning

Great video but still not sure regarding the parking brake adjustment wheel. Is it righty tight-y /lefty loose-y (i.e. the adjustment is perpendicular to the tire, so top to bottom turning is tightening and bottom to top turning is loosening) or the opposite? Also, I see you're in a rusty area. Did you use dichromate coated rotors? Thanks.

      @Enthusiast416  4 года назад

Thanks for the positive comment! I can't recall which way tightens and which way loosens but turn it one way untill it's tight and the rotor doesn't rotate anymore then slowly back it off the other way untill the rotor freely moves. Then test the e-brake and you should be good to go.
Also yes I did use coated rotors.

Question: Those bad parts that you found, (pads) are those "factory" from when you bought the car new, or did the dealer install SUB-PAR or even NON-HONDA parts???
We have this exact same car. We love it.
I haven't allowed the dealer to do anything, EXCEPT when the windshield cracked due to being super cold outside and the defroster being hot... I let them replace it. And I got them to do that under warranty, because I was able to prove, via research, that this is a known issue in N. America.
The only other thing, was about 2 months ago, I allowed them to replace the front right control arm because it's covered under the Honda extended warranty that we bought.
But when you said that they told you that you HAD TO do the brake maintenance to keep the warranty valid, I almost YELLED at the screen (to the dealer, not you).
Because THAT IS PURE BU'LL'SH'IT!!! You are NOT required to do "brake maintenance" to keep the warranty.
In fact, brake components are NOT covered under warranty after the 1st year or something.
And I'll tell you, where I lost any confidence in the dealer we bought it from, was right after buying it in 2016.
At about 3 months, they suggested that I bring it in for their "free" full checkup.
Of course, THAT was just to TRY TO UP SELL. And what did they try to up sell? You guess it
    BRAKE "CLEANING"!
I told them that I have always worked on our vehicles all my life and I KNOW THIS IS BULL'SHIT!!!
They didn't try to claim that this is required for the warranty because I made it clear that I KNOW WHAT'S WHAT!
Since then, they only tried their cold calling one more time and I told them to TAKE ME OFF OF THAT LIST!!!
I let them know that I'm getting my oil/fluid changes done at a PLACE I TRUST and have been going to for years.
Even when I had to get them to replace the control arm, the did try the "THE TECH WILL HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT TO CONFIRM IT BEFORE ORDERING." Which is fine.
So what did I do? ROFL I had my phone in hand and a video loaded up. The video was of THIS VERY CONTROL ARM BEING LOOSE!
    LOL
I showed the person and said, I KNOW IT'S DEFECTIVE AS THIS VIDEO SHOWS so let's make sure that the tech doesn't miss anything. LOL
They replaced it under warranty and without any BS.
So anyway, sorry for the long-winded comment.
So, where those pads and parts NON Honda parts that the dealer put in?
If so and if they told you that it is required under the warranty, I'd HIGHLY suggest contacting Honda head office and letting them know... both by voice and by email so it's documented.
    Take care

A set of calipers cost $70. Forget all the headaches associated with rusted out calipers and brackets. Get some aluminum rustoleum spray paint and prevent all of the corrosion from returning plus they will always look nicer. Good idea using a nice clean work surface. Do not replace the assembly line retaining screws. They serve no purpose.

Nah. I never ever use my E brake. I find it funny people who do. 50 years of driving and never used them. Live in south no major hills etc so might have different attitude up north. Therefore would not need to replace them

The shoe brake gets almost no wear unless you drive with your e-brake on. Should be fine as long as all springs, clips and adjusters are functional.
