The greatest, tandem together ❤️, Captain America Heisman Great and Hall of Fame QB Roger Staubach and Tom Landry. My favorite of all times What a true legend he was , the greatest Dallas Cowboys Franchise Coach to ever live in Dallas Cowboys Franchise historical history 💙.
One thing people forget is that Staubach didn't go into the league straight from college. He did a tour of service with the Navy and was out of the sport until he was 27. It is amazing he was able to come in and play the way he did with such a long layoff, and when he retired, he was at the top of his game. There is no telling how his career would have looked if he had those missed years in the NFL.
@@written12 Exactly, unless Roger made a lot of investments he had no where near enough money to buy the Cowboys even back in 1989 when the team cost a fraction of what it does now.
Landry was a far better coach then Lombardi, he’s very underrated in what he brought to the game; 4/3 defense, speed with Bob Hayes, shotgun, flex defense, motion prior to snap etc etc, he was still innovative 10 years after Lombardi was a dinosaur
@@bradleybrown8399 He's right. Go conduct a poll and then tell me how many football fans properly credit Landry with the 4-3 defense, shotgun, flex defense, motion, etcetera.
There is no question that Roger Staubach is THE most underrated QB in NFL history. The documented record demonstrates that he is 1 of the Top 5 QB's in NFL history. Hall of Fame inductee,; 4 time NFL passing champion; 5 time NFC passing champion; 4 Super Bowl appearances in 8 years as a full-time starter; 2 time Super Bowl winner; MVP of Super Bowl 6; strong arm; accurate; mobile; clutch performer; tough as nails; the consummate leader; the greatest QB of the 70's; and he retired as the the NFL's all-time leader in passer rating. Staubach accomplished all of this after serving 4 years in the military and not becoming a full-time starter until he was 29 years old. IMO, if Staubach came into the league as a 22 year old rookie, the Cowboys would have had at least 1 more Lombardi Trophy and Roger would have been in the discussion as THE greatest QB in NFL history.
If he didn't serve 4 years in the Navy, he would have been just another NFL quarterback. His service made him who he is. A loyal person. A trusted individual. A leader....and a million other positive adjectives.
Don Meredith was my very first sports hero, and I still love my memories of him this very day......but IMO, Rodger The Dodger was, and STILL is..... the greatest pro QB in history.🏈
My dad the late Salvatore Blumette took me to see the Dallas Cowboys against the Philadelphia Eagles in Philly when I was about 10 years old. I was so impressed by Coach Landry team and the play of their QB back then Danny Don Meredith with the great wide receiver Bob Hayes. It truly inspired me to become a football coach when I grew up. And now I been doing for the past 25 years as a college, high school and Junior High football Coach. And not quite ready to retire yet!
Landry isn't given enough recognition to what he brought to the NFL and which is still being used today. Staubach for me was the best Cowboy QB. Aikman 2nd. Danny White 3rd for atleast bringing us to 3 NFC championship games in a row.
If the Cowboys had picked up Warren Moon, they would have had more Super Bowls than anyone else by far! It would have been perfect timing as Roger was retiring the following year. It is an amazing fact to understand that in the same year Earl Campbell was drafted, Warren Moon went UNDRAFTED!
@@written12 - He was in the Canadian Football League for 6 years and then played for the Houston Oilers for 10 seasons. Just think if the Houston Oilers had drafted him the same year they drafted Earl Campbel !!!!!
@@StellarFella I respect your admiration for Warren Moon. Obviously he was a good passer, he was a decent field--general, and he apparently was/is a good man, but as a runner/athlete he was very slow. Personally I would rather have Danny White than a whole team of Warren Moons.🏈
Muhammad Ali and Roger Staubach are forever linked in sports history. Because of his legal battle with the U.S. government, Ali was illegally kept from boxing during his best 3 1/2 years. After that period of time away from the sport, he resumed his performance with a roar. Roger Staubach was never able to perform as a professional football player at the outset because his first four years of eligibility were spent serving in the U.S. Navy. He started in the league in 1969 as a 27 year old rookie and didn't get the job as starting quarterback until he was 29 1/2. He won his first Super Bowl a few weeks shy of being 30. He sat on the bench in utter frustration during the Super Bowl of the previous year when Dallas lost in the last seconds, 16 to 13.
As good as he was... at 35 things go downhill pretty fast. Danny White was no Roger but was likely better than Roger would have been at that point. The Cowboys were still real good for the first half of the 80's with Danny White.
Tan Maxwell 45 I'm with ya' Tan. Roger was the greatest....ever. But give Danny White some credit. He was a great QB and a great athlete. And he was obviously a great field general. Replacing Roger Staubach was the toughest assignment in NFL history.🏈
I saw an interview with Charlie Waters #41 cowboy safety and corner and He said Tom Landry would go "NO Roger No" When Roger ran the ball and then stsrt going from No Roger No to GO ROGER GO. LOL
I can only imagine Staubach's numbers if he played in the modern game, where the QB has so many rules designed to protect them. He retired only because the Drs said that if he was concussed again, that he may never recover from it. Meaning, that he might have become a permanent mental vegetable. He had no choice in the matter, if he wanted a chance to be a husband, a father, and successful outside of football.
Bum Bright would"t fund rebuilding the team. Instead, he slandered Landry's mental health. Bum didn't have the resources the Cowboys had with Clint Murchison. I would have also loved Roger Staubach to be the 2nd owner but I don't remember him trying to. Not saying he didn't I just didn't know about it.
Thank God he didn’t. It was bad enough that the team lost in Super Bowl because Coach Landry had Morton as the QB instead of Staubach, but had that happened, I don’t think the Cowboys would have ever won a Super Bowl.
I know Craig Morton lost the starting job to Roger Staubach and He was in a battle though with Craig,Tom new Roger was great though,I wouldn't just get rid of a Qb unless I new he wasn't a Championship type Qb,or even fit the team,But it's tough being a head coach, college coaches dont last long much,But Jimmy Johnson sure did.

Jerry’s way of dismissing Landry is why I’m no longer a Cowboys fan. Classless, and Coach deserved much better.

I regret that Roger did not purchase the Cowboys team. He would have been a much more sensible owner than Jerry.
