Matthew McConaughey - 2014 Distinguished Alumnus Award Acceptance Speech

McConaughey is an Academy Award-winning actor. He has starred in Dazed and Confused, Amistad, Contact, The Wolf of Wall Street, True Detective, and Dallas Buyers Club, for which he won the Oscar and a Golden Globe Award, both for Best Actor. McConaughey is the founder of the just keep livin Foundation, a nonprofit that empowers high school students to lead active lives and make healthy choices. He also partnered with Mack Brown and Jack Ingram in founding Mack, Jack, and McConaughey, a joint fundraising effort that benefits children.

The Child of the past exist in every adult. Lost within faded memories, that child keeps searching for a life of adventure, discovery, value, love, and happiness. Human beings survive by using their minds rationally to deal with reality, which is becoming harder and harder to do in a world that is currently upside down and ass-backwards, mostly due to our politicians, the media, and religious leaders, it's all by design...
With concentrated effort one can break free from those who are hurting him or her... from those who are wasting his or her time and resources.
Then and only then can "That Child of the Past" rekindle a new life of adventure, discovery, value production, love and happiness. Every human is tested... break the chains or forever be a slave.
