I think the biggest mistake Mitsubishi ever made was allowing the Evo to die out the way they did. Each Lancer had 3 Evo versions I/II/III then IV/V/VI & VII/VIII/IX plus a IX wagon, the X could have easily had XI & XII made from the final Lancer, other markets did see minor changes like black inserts in the rear light clusters & deeper sideskirts, colour screen in the centre of the dials rather than orange, indicators moved to the door mirrors. None of these changes were really worth getting excited over though, I just hope the with Mitsubishi being tied to the Nissan/Renualt alliance we might actually see a new Evo come out of it.
agree mitsubishi should not leave the evo lineup to end so abruptly like the way it did, i love the previous evos, but would not be too keen on a hybrid evo, it would have lost its roots if it became a hybrid.
Keith Wong Unfortunately I don't see a new Evo being available without a hybrid drivetrain if one ever comes out again. There was talk a few years back about it being a diesel-electric hybrid but thank god they were just unfounded rumours. Mitsubishi actually had a running prototype of an Evo IX with electric motors built into each wheel, I don't know what became of it, probably sat in the corner of some Mitsubishi warehouse gathering dust.
That's kind of the thing about these kinda of cars though, the interior is not expected to be fantastic. Compare the Evo IX MR to the Evo X MR, massive upgrade to the interior though. So the inside is more pleasant and feature filled, while not compromising too much from the car's performance either. Super impressive in all of these different cars that they are so performance focused but still come with comforts you can appreciate on your daily drive.
Great video Mr Ped! Nice to see you enjoying some of our local roads. The hill at Porlock is interesting! Some amazing scenery that on a nice day you feel like you could be in another country.
I think you enjoyed filming that !. Good video, the Evo looked the pick of the bunch there. I’ve heard about the engine issues on the RS, which is a shame as it’s a great car.
Really enjoyed this vid, and what a beautiful area! (bet they have a cycling hill climb event up Porlock hill!).Being a WRX STI owner, your experience left me wishing for the EVO as my daily. I was gutted to hear they are no longer in production, neither is the WRX. I guess my regret is because in my 20s I would watch the RAC ,then Network Q rally where my hero, Colin Mcrae drove the Subaru Impreza.I guess I could find an EVO in the 2nd hand market if still tempted
Great video. Once Mitsubishi stopped producing the EVO, I feel Subaru became a bit lazy and suddenly cars like the M140i, Audi S3, Golf R, Focus RS, Leon Cupra, Astra VXR etc have emerged, and are producing similar performance, with better mpg (not that it would be a priority for the latter). Maybe its to do with them not being part of WRC or maybe its because they don't have the R&D funds to develop an all new engine that rivals A45 AMG/M2/RS3's power output. Back when STIs and EVOs were in their heyday in the previous decade, they were in a higher performance category with their AWD drivetrains than a 1st gen S3, E81 130i, MK4/5 Golf R32, MK1 Focus RS etc.
First up I’ll admit to always having been an Evo fan, I think they’ve been the better looking car between it and the STI. Despite having gotten over the boy racer cars many years ago I still think the Lancer looks good in Evo guise, that particular STI is reasonable too, the Focus RS looks good, the only car that I can’t gel with on looks is the Type R. I’m surprised the the Evo had less turbo lag than the STI. If I could park anyone of those in my shed it’d be the go, no surprises there then, my soft spot for them continues..
yes hopefully! I was in Sussex this week but I was literally booked for every evening. Work is a bit mental at the moment, hence lack of videos! Will let you know when the next trip over is. Cheers !
The envy is so strong I think I have actually turned green. Love the Evo X. Bit saddened about the feelings towards the WRX STI, because they were the things that myself, and my friends lusted after at school. And now they’re outclassed by the likes of a Golf R. It’s a shame. Especially as I keep looking at the STI and thinking about how well it would sit on my driveway... Great video as always mate, you’re a lucky sod getting to do stuff like this.
Hi James. It was a great day and I was indeed lucky to drive such great cars. Check out my review of the WRX STi as it grew on me a great deal and by the end of the week I had really fallen for it. You can pick up year old used examples for under £25k and for that money they are a huge amount of car !
Great video, looks like it was a lot of fun. If Mitsubishi launched another Evo, that FQ400 would need to be the benchmark surely, especially with A45s and the like. Odd about the turbo lag (lack of) I remember Clarkson's test, and he showed it had a massive turbo and a lot of lag? (I might be confusing two different cars, do you recall that one, he had this and a normal car in a high gear rolling start and it took ages for the Evo to overtake?). Minor video critique, around 14 minutes in the WRX, not sure why but the forward camera seemed to be a bit blocky, my guess is the windshield had some grime on it, which messed with the focus a bit? around 19 minutes in the Evo I couldn't see it though.
I can't remember that Clarkson vid, but I didn't feel that much lag. Not sure about the camera issues. I did have to borrow a camera that's to a battery problem but that was the face camera in the Evo.
ruclips.net/video/VVt1IjIdLxY/видео.html Check it out ;) Is this the same Evo? EDIT: Facepalm, this is an VIII he was talking about, ok I was pretty close ;)
Conza The car you're thinking of was the Evo VIII FQ 400, the turbo was changed for a larger one which gave more power but also made the car very peaky to drive. The best Evo for terms of power without the lag was the Evo IX FQ 360 By HKS. You kept the character of the Evo but didn't change its manic power delivery.
Ah ok, well when he mentioned there was little lag, I just recalled the Clarkson video where it shows that it had huge lag, which is why I thought it was unusual, I would 'guess' that this car has slightly less lag. Also, Clarkson was intentionally trying to exaggerate the lag, the point being that if you're caught out in the wrong gear your car will be slow.
Great video Pete. If I'd known you where in my area I'd have come and said hello. The Pheasants on the road beyond Dunster are a nightmare. There from a farm just by the road. You where literally filming within 2 miles if my house.
LOL ,funny you should say that as years ago i was working as an electrician at the sewage treatment plant between Dunster and Butlins and we hit a couple of pheasants in our works van.
Enjoyed watching this - Not so surprised about the Subaru but .... we go and buy an Evo 10 and not a Ford RS ? I guess it makes financial sense to do so.
The Subaru had grown on me during the week. I've done over 1000 miles in it and I get it now. For the money it's stunning. You can get a year old ex demo for under £25k !! That Evo though :-0
I’m a Mitsubishi Lancer owner and thought of replacing my car between a type R or a WRX STI, but all these great comments about the Evo X makes me want to upgrade my car :) I also like that guys smile at 5:30 must be the owner of that Evo.. no wonder. 😉
Fantastic way to spend a day. Maybe not the crack of dawn start! Shame about the Subaru, remains a legend especially with the memory of Colin McRae. But that Evo is very special. Thanks mate really enjoyable.
Magnificent guys. Epic cars, stunning part of the country ( N. Devon’s my favourite place of all). I have to agree with the choice of best car, the Evo is like having your own jet fighter. Really top notch video. Thanks Peter & to Love Cars. 20/10 ✅ . What’s next ? A hard one to beat. Geof
It’s a pity the Evo has zero turning circle and the turbo lag is just unacceptable - that would’ve been one of the best track day cars ever with a second smaller turbo to take up the lag
Paul Lovesey - what turbo lag is that then ? I own an Evo X and mine doesn't suffer with bad turbo lag, I think you maybe getting confused with the old Evo 8 FQ400
The WRX has grown on me this week to the point where I've been looking at them on Auto Trader !!! The most sensible everyday car here though is the Focus. It's also the only one Mrs PP would be seen in !!
It would have been the Focus but as you say, the Focus seems to have some engine reliability issues, not keen on the styling of the Civic and I hear the Evo suffers a fair bit of turbo lag. So Imprezza would be my choice. :) cheers, Jon.
Just a bunch of kids start playing with a old guy but didn't reallize he was a retired assasin thats what i feel for evo no matter how many cars produced or in future no one can deniy the legendry evolution And i think mitshubishi is the maddest people i saw to stop their flagship monster evo car and which they gain so much sucess with without evo to me mitshubishi is just home appliances producing company nothing more than it
How is it fair to compare the FQ400 against all of the rest that are underpowered by atleast 50-90HP? That isn't a regular trim Evo, it's a factory modded Evo while the rest are normal trim.

Hi Andrew. I had the Scooby as my daily for a week and that was superb. You could easily daily the Focus. I think the Evo would be a Car you saved for the weekend 👍
Fly to nz , buy a cheap legacy rs for 1k , And test out The Crown Rangers Near Queenstown ' Arthurs pass Castle hill South Island , you will be in heaven . I'm a kiwi and live across the dich Australia roads are nothing like Nz . Even a Englishmen said nz roads are more fun than Europe
What an unbelievable part of the country, it’s got it all. Great scenery and fantastic roads. My favourite is the scooby. Great video, would love to see more like this. Nice one
Really enjoyed that, Mcrae and Burns were my heroes and what got me into Subaru’s. Especially after seeing a Series Mcrae edition in 95 in the Dealership window. There was an FQ440, only 40 made, friend worked at a Mitsy dealer and I saw one. Lots of issues with it and very expensive at £50k!
You didn’t have your Skinny jeans on ped lol.... Nice interesting video but these cars are so immature like you stated, l would have the RS Focus above them but just because l owned a Focus ST3 but l grew out of that terrific handling car fast Magnetic Grey is the best colour for the Rs focus
I think the biggest mistake Mitsubishi ever made was allowing the Evo to die out the way they did.

A new Evo would be so cool and I can imagine it would be a weapon of a car !

2018 and I didn't hesitate at all. I purchased an Evo X here in Australia in excellent conditions. Its a monster so happy with it🙌
Never been a fan of the interior of both the WRX or EVO . But the look of that EVO even though it's five yrs old looks good.
I must say the interior of the WRX is actually pretty good. Way better than it used to be. The EVO drove like it was brand new...very impressive !
More like 10 years, but I agree
That's kind of the thing about these kinda of cars though, the interior is not expected to be fantastic. Compare the Evo IX MR to the Evo X MR, massive upgrade to the interior though. So the inside is more pleasant and feature filled, while not compromising too much from the car's performance either. Evo x wins again
Yep 👍
Like i said in lovecar channel.. Rs is a great car, but..... THERE IS EVO IN LOVE!! nothing can replace the evo from my heart!
That Evo is VERY special 👌
Me to ❤️

Car sounds
Great video Mr Ped! Nice to see you enjoying some of our local roads. The hill at Porlock is interesting! Some amazing scenery that on a nice day you feel like you could be in another country.
It sure was beautiful !
Well done Peter..A super shoot..! Love that Evo.
Cheers Paul :-)
I think you enjoyed filming that !. Good video, the Evo looked the pick of the bunch there. I’ve heard about the engine issues on the RS, which is a shame as it’s a great car.
One of the best days ever...such a laugh !

Absolutely quality. Heading to watch lovecars now for the drone shots.
Just taking some epic cars down the road with some friends, what else does a man need?
Mcufre so true 👍
Walkie Talkies !!
You just need to add the word 'Hoon@
Great video. It must have involved a lot of planning😊
Look forward to the next one
There was certainly a recce done the weekend before :-)
Great video.I really enjoyed it.
Thanks Colin :-)
Great video. You hit the nail on the head. 5 years ago 300 bhp was a lot for a car like that. Today it's not.
WRX 300BHP - Focus RS 350BHP - EVO 400 BHP !!!
Great watch. Love the Evo X and of course the FK2 as I have one of the last Black editions and know how well they handle.
Cheers Chris :-)
I dont like that the red Lancers they make the interior rear light paint on red instead of black. Was the first thing I replace on mine
First up I’ll admit to always having been an Evo fan, I think they’ve been the better looking car between it and the STI. Loved it! Will be taking a group of MINIs to Exmoor and those roads in April, and can't wait after watching that. And yes, we have walkie talkies. :)
Walkie Talkies are just the coolest thing ever !!
I would love to drive my mini down those roads. 👍Looks like you had a fun day The evo looks so more modern for a 5 year old car
Great reviews 👍👍🏁🏁
well, i am proud to say “i am an Evo owner!” great content by the way!
You lucky Bugger ;-)
I love love love slow mo spins. Sweet.
We did one with the Focus in Drift Mode that was epic but I missed it with the camera !!!!
I found your channel from the Car Throttle app. Nice video
Cool. That’s great to know posting links on there helps people find me 👍 Hope you subbed too 😜
Petrol Ped yup i did
Great video mate. Really enjoyed watching that.
Cheers Justin...we having that beer anytime soon ?!
yes hopefully! I was in Sussex this week but I was literally booked for every evening. Work is a bit mental at the moment, hence lack of videos! Will let you know when the next trip over is. Cheers !
Enjoyed watching your video more than making our video!
It was such a great day. Loved working with you guys 👍

No way ! We had the lead car on pheasant spotting duty ;-)
LOL ,funny you should say that as years ago i was working as an electrician at the sewage treatment plant between Dunster and Butlins and we hit a couple of pheasants in our works van.
Would have liked to see the comparison with a standard Evo FQ300 rather than a one off FQ400
Didn't have access to an FQ300 ;-)
Awesome. Loved it. Very enjoyable watch on the commute on home from work on a Friday evening (no I wasn't driving at the same time!) 👍
Cheers Ryan. It was a great day with great cars :-)
Nicely put together, good day and great to meet you 👍🏻
Awesome meeting you too. I had loads of footage left on the cutting room floor :-)
Petrol Ped haha I bet, I have TB’s of the stuff clogging up countless hard drives!
The Evo is the best 😍
I agree 👍
Enjoyed watching this - Not so surprised about the Subaru but .... we go and buy an Evo 10 and not a Ford RS ? I guess it makes financial sense to do so.

Sounds like you enjoyed it then ;-)
Petrol Ped reminded me of the original top gear mate 😊
I’m a Mitsubishi Lancer owner and thought of replacing my car between a type R or a WRX STI, but all these great comments about the Evo X makes me want to upgrade my car :)
I also like that guys smile at 5:30 must be the owner of that Evo.. no wonder. 😉
wish they brought the fq400 in australia. looks way better then the standard x
Another great car vid !!
Thanks Tom :-)
Shout out to my home town Minehead!! Great vid 👌 and some great roads around here 👌
There sure are :-)
I thought it would be the newest type r 2017 but its the previous one
It belonged to one of the camera men. Not in the original plan for the video.
Fantastic way to spend a day. Maybe not the crack of dawn start! Shame about the Subaru, remains a legend especially with the memory of Colin McRae. But that Evo is very special. Thanks mate really enjoyable.
By the end of the week I was properly in love with the Scooby. It just took time. The Evo is proper lush though 😍
great vid, love the evo
How much does the evo cost though? I'm sure they're 40k+ aren't they?
They were certainly pricey new !
52000 pounds new
Magnificent guys.
Geof
Thanks Geof. We will work together again and next time we are going to go BIG !
It’s a pity the Evo has zero turning circle and the turbo lag is just unacceptable - that would’ve been one of the best track day cars ever with a second smaller turbo to take up the lag
Turning and ground clearance are certainly challenging !
I’m a big fan Pete - keep up the great work
Are you going to FoS this year?
Yep. I'll be there :-)
I’ll try and keep a look out for you
Paul Lovesey - what turbo lag is that then ? I own an Evo X and mine doesn't suffer with bad turbo lag,
I think you maybe getting confused with the old Evo 8 FQ400
So the one off build car wins...which could you live with?
The WRX has grown on me this week to the point where I've been looking at them on Auto Trader !!! The most sensible everyday car here though is the Focus. It's also the only one Mrs PP would be seen in !!
I guess that is the best inducation of which is best. "Which one would I buy this my money?"
Brilliant pal. Loved it Thankyou. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers Bud :-)
It would have been the Focus but as you say, the Focus seems to have some engine reliability issues, not keen on the styling of the Civic and I hear the Evo suffers a fair bit of turbo lag. So Imprezza would be my choice. :) cheers, Jon.
As an everyday day and for the money I'd do for a 1 year old used WRX. You can pick one of for 20-25 grand :-)
Just a bunch of kids start playing with a old guy but didn't reallize he was a retired assasin thats what i feel for evo no matter how many cars produced or in future no one can deniy the legendry evolution
And i think mitshubishi is the maddest people i saw to stop their flagship monster evo car and which they gain so much sucess with without evo to me mitshubishi is just home appliances producing company nothing more than it
Lovely line up
How is it fair to compare the FQ400 against all of the rest that are underpowered by atleast 50-90HP? That isn't a regular trim Evo, it's a factory modded Evo while the rest are normal trim.
The Evo and Scooby are the last editions made and the RS is effectively the modern equivalent, that was the original premise for the video.
There is Awesome hwy Old Pacfic hwy Cowan 10km from my place in Sydney , Bike riders love this road 800 metres above sea level
Focus a modern day equivalent? Hmm, maybe not eh?
wrx sti spec ra-r instead of a 2017 sti
Ben Chesterman or litchfield type 25
Evo x only car with no fake air vents everything is functional👍😎👍
I’ll still take the evo 10 in 2018
It’s up for sale 😜👍
yes lancer is king
Hi Pete
Looking forward to you doing a review of Pilgrim Motorsports . And I think you’ll find they’re a local company 👍👍
I'll look them up :-)
It would have to be the Evo out of that lot although (I hate to say it) the Civic would have done the lot (and mine too) on the twisties easily. Even so, I would have the Evo!
Evil Diesel 1 The Civic so underrated and underestimated, it really is! For once it actually looks tame when parked up next to that amazing Evo!!
The FWD Type R actually struggled a little with the low grip levels compared with the others having AWD
Even understated when parked next to the others !!
Petrol Ped I’m wondering if Honda will ever realise if they went awd they could possibly make something magnificent!! They seem happy playing about with fwd but if we are brutally honest it’s getting a bit boring for most of us - it’s about time Honda actually start listening to their customers.
Why didn't you just do a dragrace which is what we want to see not photoshoots.
Simple...couldn’t get an airfield sorted 😥
Very fun!
Oh yes !
Brilliant, it must be friday
I have an evoxmr. Went up against type r. Both stock. He beat me twice. Beat him once off the dig. Fq would tear itapart.
Hiya
Only heard about them this week. Right up our street . 👍👍
New subaru looks like copy of evo :D
But evo is too heavy i think, cos on nurburging lost with all these 3 cars.
Well, that was rather lovely Peter. Do you think any of them could get a little tiring as a daily driver?
Hi Andrew. I had the Scooby as my daily for a week and that was superb. You could easily daily the Focus. I think the Evo would be a Car you saved for the weekend 👍
With an evo x and you need to get some fuel. I would never have thought that :P
LOL...it happened quite a lot !
Amazing cars very jealous but happy for yeas all 👍👍👍👍
It was a pretty good day of driving !
I'd love to do that one day :-)
A chav's wet dream those cars 😂
LOL !
Great video. Excellent cars. However, please, please, PLEASE TURN THE MUSIC DOWN BETWEEN THE DIALOGUE!!!!!!
Evo ❤
What an unbelievable part of the country, it’s got it all. Great scenery and fantastic roads. My favourite is the scooby. Great video, would love to see more like this. Nice one
Glad you enjoyed it. Will be trying to arrange more days like this as it was great fun :-)
They were pricey that's for sure ! You can get a year old WRX for £20-25K :-)
I was just missing a baseball cap on backwards !
So basically a modded evo x lol
typeR none turbo..
Evo x is a evo nah. Not a real evo
Wow, that was lame.
