The DCT470 is 2 separate 3 speed manual transmissions in one housing that pre selects the next gear by throttle position, brake position and RPM momemtum and changes gears using 2 separate hydroelectronically controlled CLUTCHES, not a torque convertor on an automatic transmission. Every MR video on RUclips is peppered with comments saying "why auto" or "5 speed is better" but the reality of it is that the TC-SST was the pinnacle of the Evo X and there isn't one situation where pushing a clutch in manually and shifting manually is better. On the same track, the MR beats the GSR by 1 sec or more and that is just cold, hard facts kids. A GSR runs at 90 mph @ 3800 RPM, the MR at the same speed runs at 3200 RPM. There are no situations that the 5 speed is better other than the cost of ownership, which is subjective.
It's too bad that a company as massive as Mitsubishi can't manage to build anything interesting.. The Evo was definitely an achievement, but I can't help but think they could have done better. Considering how little R&D time they seemed to spend on the rest of their line

I understand people complaining about the Evo being auto and it's unfair to compete against a manual subaru but what people need to understand also is that the Evo in this video is a FQ400 and the Subaru is a standard STI. This is also an unfair matchup. The FQ400 is a more powerful and expensive version of the standard evo and to be fair it had to be competed against a similar customised version of the subaru, which is the S series. So all in all it was somehow a fair battle.
Mitsubishi pushed the dual-clutch automatic gearbox so hard, lots of people didn't know the Evo X came with anything else. And I really felt like I had *settled* when I got mine with a 5-speed. The more I hear from dual-clutch owners and see videos like this, the more I like my 5-speed.

You can double the hp and it continues to work exactly the same as the standard car. If you think that's normal for tuned cars (or bikes) then you haven't done much tuning....

Zillions of people missed the one line per article that said a 5-speed was standard equipment.

Evo lost cause of the transmission and lack of driver skills. Everyone knows Evo is a demon. They should put the Manual Transmission and a high-skilled driver.
Before buying my car I got to drive an Evo X and a 2011 WRX STI sedan. While the Evo was fun I didn't like the feel of the 5 speed. Also, the suspension made a loud bang when you stamp the brakes at low speed. The STI was great on the other hand. The turbo spool and recirc sound was quiet but the exhaust note was amazing. They were both used but the STI had lower miles and was stock. It cost more but I went with the Subie and don't regret it for a single day. I still like Evos but my heart lies with the 6 stars.
Should have both been manual transmission, but as compared, the Subaru won the race and blew away the Evo in the slalom test - and was clearly a lot more fun to drive - so how could they pick the Evo???
The so called EVO X is not an Evo its more "Nissan" than Mitsubishi, I would like to see this test repeated with a modern subaru vs the Mitsubishi EVO 9 or 8 now that would be a test to see how far we have come technology wise and how good the Mitsubishi Evo series was.
