Harry Maguire is as gifted at public relations as he is defense. At least he showed a little loyalty to a teammate with this rather than just bottling another game.

you certainly shouldn't but ultimately its an example from my own experiences - I'm not saying either Konsa or Mings should be selected for England I'm just saying they are examples of players who are (would be in Mings case) playing regular football and are ultimately more resonable to select than Maguire - I'm sure there are loads of other cases of the same thing at other clubs but i can only speak from experience@@Yourfuckinslow

Dunk and Guehi played so well together but for some odd reasons , SG doesn’t play them anymore . Maguire is so protected.

I still don't understand how Southgate is still the England Manager. Picking Henderson, Phillips and Maguire while they are nowhere near the level they were a couple of years ago, is an insult to the FA and the better footballers who aren't picked. No, I think they should be winning the euros and the world cup. But they aren't able to do that due to terrible decisions by Southgate in important matches. Plus, there are better managers available.

You can talk about stats all you want, but England is likely the best national team in the world right now on pure talent, and we have been for years now, and what do we have to show for it? 1 final appearance, and some good results against worse teams? Is that how you measure success? Because personally, when you're given the best team in the world, your success should be measured on trophy wear. I don't care if we have great stats, if we don't win anything, what does it matter? We should have beaten Italy in the last Euros, and we didn't. End of, no amount of random stats will save you from the fact we lost. Most decent managers would have walked to a Euros win, and at least the final in the WC with this group of players.

I was at the game, I completely agree with what Goldbridge has said here & before. A player like Henderson who's gone off to the Saudi league and yes... was good at one point but isn't as elite as he once was shouldn't be taking up a spot for our national team. I for one & as Goldbridge said would have put ward-prouse in the squad over Henderson etc any day. The squad shouldn't be about picking your peers and/or who knows who. Places for the team should be competitive and we should have the best possible players in every position available to us. Back in the day Beckham was told he wouldn't play in the England squad if he remained in the sub-par US leagues... why should it be different now?

Mate you just suggested that we should replace one of the only holding midfielders in the squad with a box to box midfielder. Why not replace Maguire with Watkins, or Pope with Scott, its the same level of correlation. Muguire tries not to put his foot in his mouth and fails. For those of us of a certain age, we remember Mike Gatting taking an "England" cricket team to play in South Africa during the height of Apartheid when South Africa was generally being boycotted. As Ian Botham said "I was asked to play there for a lot of money, but how could I ever have looked Viv Richards in the eyes again". Maybe Henderson doesn't have any LBGTQ+ family or friends so the money means more to him but why does anyone else think they need to stick up for him and not just say fans are entitled to thier opinion. Remember Rooney coming off the pitch during the World Cup in South Africa with England fans booing the team and his performance and him complaining. You can support England and have decency towards people being oppressed and freedom to express your opinion, it's called being a human being.

I don't blame Maguire for saying what he said. He's sticking up for a teammate which is the right thing to do, because if he did the opposite, it would cause problems and tension in the team and then as such have an affect on how they play. Should fans boo Henderson? Yes. Should Maguire stick up for him? Yes. It's honestly not a big deal.

Henderson was massively targeted by online idiots who just thought he wasn't good enough yet gave his all on the pitch. You're absolutely right about the media using this for engagement, well I mean, you would know after all !! International breaks are notoriously slow for football sites that trade in daily premier league news during the season so they've just decided to focus on the boos because it gets people talking (case in point). As a child, I started hating the media when they quoted players and managers out of context. I detested them and believed that I should never entertain them. That's a belief I've held, and perhaps too far, I choose not to engage the media in any circumstance in my profession (I'm a lawyer). I do understand that the media is what supplies the news, but standards since the early 2000s, perhaps the 1990s, were really bad. Even for daily news (non-football related), I struggle to believe anything I read in the media unless it is properly supported by documentary evidence. I don't blame Maguire for what he said, but why does he need to be trained to deal with professional liars (the media). For the record, I am not a Man Utd or Maguire fan.

I think this conversation about JWP is silly. He doesn’t do the same things Henderson does. JWP is more of an attacking option with great set pieces. Henderson is a defensive option. In midfield we have so many strong attacking options I doubt he’d even get a sniff ahead of Bellingham, Foden, Trent, Rice or Philips. We would have to change tactics to accommodate his style. I like him but I can’t make sense of the outrage

I don't know what JWP has to do to get in the England squad. I am a Pompey fan and even when he was at Southampton I couldn't understand why he wasn't getting picked for England, but with what he has done this season for West Ham so far there is no way that he shouldn't be in the England squad. I don't know if booing is the right way to get the point across however if that is what is causing the boos, maybe chanting something like where's James Ward Prowse or just shouting his name in unison for a whole minute after 7 minutes because that is his shirt number for West Ham.
