Hope you enjoyed the daily uploads for a month! I'll be going back to a normal upload schedule next month.
Thank you for all your hard work
How can I enjoy videos with no Lilian Voss on them?
Jk Ir was great. I watched them all when they came out
It was pretty cool. See ya next month!
You made lockdown so much better :) thank you
Back in the day and in classic now I'd fish waiting for the boats to come to take to one of the other continents. Also a favourite memory was finishing 10 man Naxx and our druid tank just realizing he tanked it all with his fishing pole equipped.
I've been guilty of this as well!
You forgot about the Coin Master achievement that gives you the Titanium Seal of Dalaran.
I spent so much of my Wotlk time getting that
*seal claps happily*
*casually flips his Titanium Seal of Dalaran*
Fishing is always meta. To gauge if a game is good or not strictly depends on if and how good the fishing is.
Not true…at alll
@@lonestarglover420 example Minecraft
@@johnnymartinez478 stardew valley is awesome but the fishing sucks ass
Same for me honestly
Should have brought on Crendor for this
Agreed!
the fact that people are in the comments mentioning things you didn't talk about is not indicative of your video quality but to how amazing this profession is. Your videos great as always
When the video is 17m long and consise yet not enough for all you can speak about, fishing truly is amazing and underrated
You forgot to talk about the Kalu'ak faction, which at exalted allowed you to purchase the Masterwork Kalu'ak Fishing Pole. This pole gave you +30 to Fishing, but also gave you the ability to breathe underwater when equipped. It also had a unique pole design. There was also Pengu, a penguin battle pet that you could purchase from the same vendor. Not a fish, but still interesting.
This item saved me many times when we used to attack stormwind 🤣👌🏻
A grave oversite in a video about the "History of Fishing".
I made bank selling pengu lol
Amazing comment thanks
A pole I still have equipped today for that water buff.
I'm surprised you didn't even mention the Ashbringer rumors that were attached to Fishing for so long that Blizzard made its Legion Appearance incorporate Fishing.
I loved going after these rumors even if it was obvious that these were just rumors. Or trying everything to get to GM island.
Thank you for the shout out to El's Extreme Anglin. That is a blast from the past and beloved by us long time fishing fans. Its nice to see call outs to things like that from the past
Legion fishing was so good, I have so many fond memories of it
Legion was so good, I have so many fond memories of it
Fishing was good in every expansion, but Legion definitely did the most with it. And the Underlight Angler is still useful two expansions later.
Dude hiru you are a champ man. Thanks for all the amazing content
Thank you for the daily uploads, but this is a lot. 20 minute videos every day. Take a break after this month because this must of been stressful. We appreciate this though!
Kaluak Mastercraft Fishing pole was BIS in WOTLK. Needed rep to get it but it was great. Even allowed you to breathe underwater. Plus It's Epic level Purple.
finally a history lesson i can get behind
That’s FANTASTIC beasts, my dude.
I was expecting a special Gun-Ther Arc-Anus cameo on this one :P
Fishing was a big thing for me. I sat in the lake behind goldshire in Argent dawn fishing, talking to strangers that came by. Imagine not reaching max level character, but have 10.000 fish caught. Thank god i moved but damn, dark period.
That quote at the end hits home, last year i hit 300 fishing on 4 chars (vanilla). and won the BB tournament on 2 of them
Gratz!
I played back in the MoP days and a bit before that and LOVED fishing. it made sense to level cooking at the same time. The Artisan fishing quest from Nat Pagle was so much fun and it was a real sense of accomplishment completing it. Seeing this vid sure brought back memories.
Man i alwaysed really liked fishing in wow. Almost completed the achivment for the Salty titel to getting the artifact rod in legion and leveling that it was just amazing. Really hope they will bring great meaning to the professions again in a new expansion.
I don’t know if it’s still active but the underlight angler used to allow you to swim as a shark in the river of Twin Peaks while holding the flag. Worked in legion and BFA. I used it against the horde for a lot of easy flag caps.
I know there's only a small chance of Hiru reading this but just wanna tell ya that after watching ya solid handfull of ya vids over the last year or two, this video has the best audio and your voice sounds really good - dunno if you got a new setup but you sound more.. confident somehow, I dunno - I guess its just nice to hear the improvement over time mate ^^
Yeah I put in extra effort to make this one more relaxing
Unpopular opinion: I like fishing in WoW.
If you ever went fishing irl you know it's one of the most monotonous things you can do. I like that fishing is one of the most passive, relaxed, and quiet things you can do in game.
PS: fishing in Legion was awesome
I Love fishing and i Play a fishing Simulator besides wow. I really Love that relaxing Part. Some chill music or Talk With some Friends over discord. Best you can do
Agreed. My SO hates fishing (and mat farming in general) so I've been his fish catcher for years. I love it! Same with archeology!
When I was introduced to WoW I had many unkind things to say about fishing in-game as I have a real-life hatred for the activity. I had to eat my words.
Fishing in-game is my favourite wind-down activity.
Fishing irl sucks, but in wow is awesome.
PS : Fishing is always awesome.
Huh, this actually helps me figure out when I started playing. I'm pretty sure it was a bit before fish tracking was added... so... a fair bit earlier than I thought!
I was so overjoyed when in Legion they released the Arclight Angler legendary
i miss el extreme angling:(, also you forgot to say that for long time it gave the best food in game - Midnight thingie fish from darkmoon island
I noticed from playing classic that a lot of people didnt know that fishing was hands down the best proff in the game for farming. During Vanilla it was possible to fish for leather working, alchemy, tailoring AND enchanting mats very efficiently from floating debris pools.
Literally no one understood how I was level 35 with max enchanting and tailoring on my first character.
That wowhead guide in turn hooked me on fishing, and now that's what I do. Forget raids and mythic dungeons and pvp, gimme dat rare stupid thing to fish for and I'm happy.
Getting the Salty title back in the day was so long ago that I had forgotten how difficult it actually was. I still use Mr. Pinchy the Magical Crawdad in pet battles to this day. :)
You could also have mentioned in Wrath there was a guild achievement to fish x amount of pools that would reward the recipe for a wrath stat feast.
One thing u forgot to put in video is a super rare Dagger weapon called Dustbringer (homage to Ashbringer), that u can fish up in Northrend. As of this day it's one of the rarest weapon in game, and it goes for a such a high prices on auction house.
I really enjoy these "the history of ..." videos, keep up the good work. I think "a history of achievements" video would be interesting.
I had the one ring! It was the first fishing rod I threw out in darkshore with my lvl 12 Nightelf Druid in 2005! Have in on my druids bank since then up to today
The person behind Salty El and the site was hired by Blizzard and had to close the site because of that. He was behind the Fishing Pole legendary in Legion, AFAIK.
Was a super fun month of daily history videos...
And it will be another fun one next month!
Right hiru?
Wow i forgot all about the wraith Saturday fishing derby. Thanks for that. One time ill actually win the og fishing durby as well. I either miss it or closetest i came is 3rd place back in the day
Technically, SOME fishing items had PvP usage. The old fishing rewards included, if I recall correctly, a hat with a lot of stamina. You could get it at a low level and it was a sought-after item for certain low level PvP twinks, because the comparatively huge health boost from something like +20 stamina on a lowbie was much stronger than anything else you could get in the lowest twinked bracket.
Yeah so many twinks doing fishing contest for the hat mostly. Hat was like lvl 20+? in vanilla...
I remeber spending a couple months grinding the Fishing extrav for The Lucky Fishing Hat and Fishing Boots. They were BiS for almost all Lvl 19 twinks. Great memories.
Gahz'ranka in ZG and The Lurker Below in SSC get no mention? Pretty big omission there, especially since the ZG guy dropped Turtle Polymorph.
Man , I loved fishing in legion, as someone with the artifact pole could power level anyone to max fishing in like a half hour.
Dont think you mentioned it but I do like using, and having, the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole since it allows you to breath underwater as well :)
I have pretty much zero context for anything you're saying cuz I've never played WoW but I still watch all your videos. Cheers
I miss joining big raids for fishing and just hanging out with other players :(
I would say engineering is the developer's favorite considering they can just do whatever they want with it. "Here's some boots that make you fast but can sometimes explode"
Also cause you to burst in flames dealing self damage for most of your hp. Died few times that way.
What about the Epic fishing rod in WotLK from reputation grinding?
Before I unsubbed I made sure to finish my fishing goals. I also enjoy a beer while casting digitally in Azeroth's waters. Great video! Glad to see I'm not missing much in Shadowlands.
But are you missing Nat Pagle popping up randomly on Draenor to say that you owe him a beer or that he thinks he saw a dolphin in that pool of lava outside the Horde garrison?
I just got my fishing 225 in classic. Going to do the quest now so I can get 300 so I am ready for tbc :)
Fantastic video! I am a long time angler and am SO happy I found this video!
I think a few of the fish even had a higher chance to catch one or the other depending on if it was night or day... and then if it was the summer half of the year or the winter half.
fishing, and cooking have always been very useful skills, when combined provided stat buffs. it used to surprise me how few actually knew this until i told them. i made my G for riding, and mount from selling blackmouth, and firefin on AH. was a very lucrative business, especially the goblin AH. i guess my rep got around as the horde stopped attacking me in southshore knowing soon i'd have mats on the neutral AH for potions they didn't need to farm.
There used to be an fishing app, so you could use your phone like fishing pole when casting. The bad thing about was that your cursor had to be on the ability Fishing, and you had to move your mouse, and click on the bobber, when there was a catch
I have spent more time fishing than probably anything else in this game. And I still don't know why it brings me back to the game from time to time haha
Now this is my profession! I got every fishing pole with the +5 fishing line. (+6 exists but is easier to get so thus worth less) and every reward except one of the turtles which has eluded me for years. >_
Cool. The Stranglethorn Fishing Contest is the bane of my existence. The only thing standing between me and my salty title.
I fished up the turtles in my Garrison, rather early on in WoD. Try there for a bit.
I got riding turtle in my garrison, but have had zero luck with Sea Turtle. Even when joining fishing raids.
The best profession, period.
I remember fishing so much just to make deviat delight to sell on the auction house. Easy cheesy way make gp. At one point I was selling stacks for 35gp if I remember correctly.
Fun fact about the underlight angler: it can be used in bgs, so it actually has some decent use in twin peaks as a flag carrier. allowing you to outrun your persuers. but you did loose the stats of your weapon. so high risk high reward
I love the way you put your fact videos together. Teach me your ways!
Didn't mention Horde-only quest reward fishing pole from troll village that was BIS before getting arcanite fishing pole
For a time in BFA you could use the hyper compressed ocean to also block the siege vehicles from driving out of the workshops.
In retrospect, some of my happiest memories of wow are just enjoying the fishing content and archaeology grind.
Also on Margos' island there was also a chance to get an item to summon a water ele for extra currency items. To complete him I think it was 580 water currency items and before the expansion people sat in raid groups to do that too.
fishing goes hand in hand with cooking to level up and always good to have a food buff
I used to hate fishing but Legion made me love it
Wow fishing is great! Has anyone but me noticed that the fishing line to the bobber looks like a catenary and not just a straight line? Nice detail.
The amount of things in this game is so overwhelming now. You hear all the stuff that's been and gone and just couldn't be bothered trying again in retail.
Really enjoyed this one , had no idea its history was so in depth
Waiting for History of hirumaredx: Best WoW RUclipsr - Happy birthday!
Honorable mention to the hot minute when fishing skill was the same as weapon skill, only you could increase it faster and to a higher cap leading to people beating up everything with fishing poles.
I really liked archeology too. Was bummed when it got abandoned
Such a great way to skill cooking in Vanilla, and if you lucked out and got the Deviate Delight recipe to drop, it made for some nice income too.
my, no mention of fishing the pond nettle in argus :(
Still my favorite fishing times are when you fish in raids groups (like Conjuror, or garrison lvl 3 turtle fishing, or legion friends, etc..)
Took me 1178 casts to catch the Pond Nettle. I hear that's on the low end. My Sea Turtle casts are past that point.
I really couldn't face levelling it all over again in Classic. Have been grinding it out since Vanilla and have probably everything achievable in retail. Painful
Another thing that I don't think you mentioned was that the crit % chance was based on your fishing skill at one point. Had randomly noticed it went up when I applied a lure one time. Not sure if that got changed at some point.
Ik everyone mentions it but DAMN are you pumpin' out the content dude
Literally finished watching the last one I hadn't seen and this was on the homepage "uploaded 53 seconds ago" when I was done xD
I quitted in early legion but at the time you can use Underlight angler in Twin peaks to capture the flag extremely quick as a alliance rogue, just sneak in and go to the waterways at the side and just swim and no one can catch you.
The fishing orb was also used in wintergrasp, people would drop it so you wouldn’t be able to interact with the npc to build demo’s & catas making the workshops useless
Keep those videos coming!
Okay. True story and one of my favorite WoW stories. I spent about a month fishing up Mr. Pinchy to try and get the pet from it. I was fishing in the high lakes in terrokar and I got him. He had three uses that could give you random effects (one of which was a permanent pet). I wished and got... a npc mr pinchy that would follow me around and attack what i attacked. But I was in the middle of nowhere so it was pretty useless... EXCEPT... there was an afk horde warlock on the other side of the lake. I bopped him on the head once and stepped back. It took a while but Mr. Pinchy ate a warlock!
Bind cast to a mouse button, turn down all wow volume but ambient?, kick up your feet, turn on netflix, make money. Once you get your system going you only have to look at your screen to readjust your curser to the new bobber location. I've made quite a bit of gold at the start of BfA and Shadowlands till fish prices eventually tank.
My favorite pastime was beating up mobs for half a dungeon run then panic switching to my weapon after forgetting I had a fishing rod equipped
It’s been awesome having these daily videos
It took me 3 whole actual days fishing to get the item for the hidden ashbringer appearance in legion. I haven't enjoyed fishing in wow as much ever since lol
I remember being 13 fishing for pet carp in pandaria , getting it was the best feeling ever
13:26 The swim speed no longer works in combat since late BFA/Shadowlands. Which is what demoted having the pole a necessity in my bags to just if I'm kitting myself out for a few beverages and sinking some hours into the closet thing Azeroth has to a slot machine.
I've probably fished 1000 hours in every spot 😆
I haven't logged in since Pandaria ended so I'm easily 1000 hours behind ... Gotta go catch up!
i remember at cata launch fishing was bugged and you got a skill up EVERY TIME you cast so i just stopped leveling and went and got my fishing to max super easy
I actually remembered the fish icon.
I just finished the entire fishing achievement tab this weekend
You can actually fish up any of the rare fish from the Hyper Compressed Ocean toy. I'd throw it down in raid all the time in between pulls. Saw somebody fish an Old Crafty out of it once.
oh, very cool.
I'm surprised he forgot the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole-kaluak-fishing-pole from the Kalu'ak in dragonblight when exalted
I loved the ending. It just felt good
Spotted some of Kraken's videos in there. ;)
I always enjoyed waking up and fishing on wow with my coffee, idk why
I got old crafty just by doing the fishing daily in org for the crocodile and some how got it, went to wow head and saw that it had a super low drop rate. lol
What mod are you using to alter quest pop ups?
Wow this really was longer than I anticipated
now, all you need is history of pet battles to make a perfect trio of things most people don't do
Interesting view, I wonder how true this is.
I have never done pet battles but vast majority of people I know have fished.
Really should of tagged on the Ashbringer quote too
During Cata I showed my arena partner/gm a safe fishing spot in Orgrimmar where npcs wouldn't aggro and players weren't likely to find you and the bastard caught Old Crafty on his first cast.
You forgot about mentioning about fishing in back in Vanilla and BC that was needed in 2 raids for optimal bosses
Great summary mate.
