I live on the other side of the planet, and am from a country that is currently also seeking independence (Scotland) and my support is with the people of Hawaii and their RIGHT to freedom and self determination. Long live IZ, Long live Hawaii, Long live freedom!
Today is the first time I have heard IZ! Watched the Over the Rainbow video, fell in love, what a beautiful voice--that's the only word that is coming out of my heart & mouth to describe my thoughts and feels for IZ. Then I gasped at the last scene of the ashes being poured into the ocean! He's dead...really?! So, I googled him & not only have I just discovered one of God's missed talents but yesterday was his birthday. So IZ, happy birthday! I look forward to meeting you in person in heaven.
Truly inspiring song. God Bless IZ, his music inspire us in Poland to how to protest for our civil rights and bright future for our children. Warm greetings from Poland.
We the Voices Behind The Face....POWER to the PEOPLE!!! I miss living in Hawaii, I miss the peeps and the way of Life the land the sea,,,I MISS ME living there, ALL of it was real, All for me was PEACE! Blessings
What an awesome voice, you can tell it's driven by heart. As an Irish man I understand this song and wish you all the best of luck ... Go mbeidh an tádh leat
this man puts warmth in my heart and tears in my eyes his voice speaks to my soul he must have been an angel sent from God to us on earth so we could feel true love at least when we heard this mans magnificient voice...though we have never met I feel I know you and you are with the angels now (Over the Rainbow)..ps this song about your heritage is awesome....rip Dear Friend
How heavenly... Truely God is with this man.. I luv the spirit that he puts forth in this song.. Very Very sad to learn that he has died... He left the world a better place.. Sad when any race has to suffer injustices...
His music is truly beautiful. You know that he must have been a pleasure to just be around when he was alive. He seems like such a kind soul. Greetings from Massachusetts.
@MendelGrummanF22z808 I just got back from O'ahu a few days ago. A great place with nice people and wonderful music and culture. I visit there a lot and enjoy it every time.
Wow! Brodah IZ was truly a legend, i came across this clip for the first time on the 22 February 2018. And since then, i couldn't just stop listening to his songs.I got so heart broken that he is no more. Was just wondering why his people couldn't help such a rare legend fight the obesity that was killing him. Hawaiians really missed this legend the way i see. He makes me feel like coming to Hawaii someday to see where he was buried and also see his family. His songs are very relateable. I like him. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
Christopher Itodo I don't believe he was buried. He was cremated along with his uke and the ashes were spread on the waters he loved. Some of the footage from that event is used in the official Somewhere Over The Rainbow video. It will bring tears to your eyes. Tears of sadness that he is gone. And tears of joy because IZ LIVES on in our hearts
this man´s voice brings so many peace to my heart. he is for sure a real star, but not one of thar horrible ones we see now days... he really shines like a sun, feeding us with all his beautyful light. He encourages everyone to shine with him... to become our primary matter... light. I´m a withe guy... I think that anyone with rasism problems shall try ti find their hearts before it´s too late... and it´s gone.
Brother Iz would be proud of his People on Mauna Wakea if he was still here today. Listen to the words of this song, relevant today as it was back then. Mahalo Brother Iz may you be smiling up in the Sky.
iz reminds me of a african shaman. connected primarily to the earth and realizing his connection to it. he felt a deep connection to those islands like many people that live there. a connection to earth through heart and soul
To me, this is the best song that IZ has written. The first time I came across it when was BJ Penn used it as an entrance song for one of this fights. He seemed so focused, and the song that was playing seemed so powerful yet so gentle... this is an amazing song.
If we need to think the same things as other people, freedom will only be a dream. But if everybody wants a better world, then we can do it. Hope, isn't the only thing he gave us. He gave us the strenght to live in a better world. I'm a fan of electro, rock, metal and also of classic and other styles but his songs are full of promises for the futur generations. Love,self-esteem,respect of the oihers people. That's what's missing nowadays. I'm a 16 years old student and I'm concerned.
I accidentally came across one of his videos tonight and couldn't turn away. He has the most riveting, angelic voice I've ever heard. I enjoy various types of music but none have held my attention and focus as his voice does. I'm truly shocked that so many who have written cruel negative comments can actually sit there being selfish, prejudiced, rude, vindictive, hateful and verbally abusive for no other reason except that this man was overweight. You are showing yourself to be extremely petty, crass, obnoxious and insecure. Can you sing like him??? I highly doubt it and why would you ever criticize someone who has such a beautiful talent when you have no talent that could ever compare? Do you actually enjoy spiteful judging? Do you honestly think you're better than this musician? You obviously are in love with an idealized, grandiose image of yourself and this is where your dysfunctional attitude is coming from. By the way....... grandiosity is an unrealistic sense of superiority--so grow up, get a real life and step down from that stool you think is a throne!!!! I could go on and on and on but I've wasted enough time on small insignificant minds.
I am white, I am no Haole. My grandmother is from Oahu and my grandfather was a soldier in Hawaii during WWII. It just amazes me how much hate still exists. I admire the people who love their heritage, but c'mon. IZ is a wonderfull person and artist. He promotes music about love and happiness, and the comments that show up on here are hate.
nah...u still haole. the hate us hawaiians have is nothing compared to the years of injustice that foreigners have caused. our language was banned, as was our hula. our land was stolen and our gods forgotten. haole literally means foreigner. anyone who is not kanaka maoli are haole, although today it is just used to describe white people.
kirkings, No disrespect. but if you look throughout history, that's what nearly every culture has gone through. Yours is just much more recent than most. I don't support what was done to the Hawaiian people at all, but what was done is done, it can't be changed now right or wrong.
IZ and Teresa Teng, the two most beautiful voices to ever sing a song...gone forever, never to be replaced but never forgotten. They will be listened to as long as their recordings can be played. You don't have to understand the languages they sing in (Hawaiian (IZ), English (IZ &TT), Chinese (TT), Japanese (TT)...the beauty of their voices will hook you. Check out TT on RUclips, esp. her Japanese and English songs with her and IZ serenading you'll be in heaven.
@TheCauseOfWetPanties aloha, I'm hawaii'n thank you and we are natives. We have our way and you have yours. and way back in our history we were known as warriors and peaceful men. we do have weight problems but no one is perfect. aloha brother and let the waves carry you to our ways
My mother would play his albums when I was just a few years old and I fell in love. I eventually had her burn the cd’s for me and I still have them to this day :’)
