I always dug Katt's stuff but this interview gave me a whole new level of respect for the man. It takes balls to stand up to the hierarchy of Hollywood. Over a decade ago Katt Williams got up on a radio show and told THE TRUTH about what THEY did to Dave Chappelle. For those who don’t know, according to Katt - The Chappelle’s Show did so good back in the day, the language in the contract stated that Dave earned $500 million - but was told he outperformed said contract and Comedy Central only offered him $50 million (10% of what his contract said he earned)

I LOVE seeing how strong Shannon's platform is becoming. Funny how Skip clearly thought Shannon needed him, but it was the other way around. I believe that Dave's contract with comedy central was for him to get half the earning of the show and maintain creative control. The show made somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 to 500 million and the network didn't want to give him the money and now wanted complete control of the show. They offered him 25 to 30% of what he was due and he walked.

The agreement was if Dave signed over the rights to the show, they would not ask for any money they had already paid him via the stipulations of the readjusted contract.
Also, the $50m was being weighed against all of the incentive riders attached to the contract. If he met all of the incentive, he COULD receive up to $50m. The incentive clause was no different than the one Sony and other companies have extended to the likes of Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Marriah Carey, Coolio, and others. The trick has always been to purposely under promote the last album as to make it difficult for the artist to check off all the listed incentives. So, in reality, Comedy Central would've made it their business to curb Dave from ever fulfilling the incentives to receive the $50m.
What many realize once they sign those contracts, example: Martin Lawrance, Flip Wilson, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Arsenio Hall, and others, is once they sign that second contract after the show becomes a success, the studio has paid them to take over the creative control of that show. Yes, that show is no longer yours; it now belongs to the entity who paid you for control over it.

He pretty much verified what Dave said about it himself. He didn't just turn down 50M. He turned down the degradation that was intermingled with it. Not easy to do when we dk them frfr. They can easily play the role & laugh all the way to the bank, but they chose to say no.
