    Soft tires are worse for top speed because they grip more onto the asphalt slowing the car down on the straights, soft tires would also wear out way too quickly at those speeds around an oval.
    Also I’d like to see how fast an unrestricted f1 car without any limitations on the engine or power would go, with constant DRS and longer gear ratios and monza spec for highest speed.

      Rolling resistance probably doesn't depend on the compound in the game. It's a flat value for all the cars.

    • @MrBarniculusBaboonicalshire
      @MrBarniculusBaboonicalshire Месяц назад +1

      @@davidaugustofc2574I’m not taking about the rolling resistance thought, that’s the drag that’s caused by open wheels when the spinning rubber is exposed to the air moving along the car, I mean that the more the tire grips onto the road surface, the slower you’ll be in a straight but better performance will be delivered around the high and low speed corners of a circuit or the corners of an oval, indycar uses rear wheel guards on their rear wheels to attempt to prevent more rolling resistance from occurring whilst still keeping the car an open wheel car.

    • @davidaugustofc2574
      @davidaugustofc2574 Месяц назад +1

      @@MrBarniculusBaboonicalshire Rolling resistance and Aerodynamic resistance are independent of eachother.
      Softer tires don't mean the tires are literally soft, they still have the same internal structure and rigidity, besides the outermost layer which is made from different rubber. It shouldn't have any effect on the air around the tire, like the rear wheel guards do.
      Softer tires will increase rolling resistance by gripping more strongly at the contact patch, not aerodynamic resistance.

    • @MrBarniculusBaboonicalshire
      @MrBarniculusBaboonicalshire Месяц назад +1

      @@davidaugustofc2574that is a fair argument that I can agree with, the outer layer of the soft tire will eventually wear out and melt off and then the car can start to get the performance out of the compound

      @@davidaugustofc2574so I guess the only things that will truly affect the straight line speed of the car are the aerodynamic setup of the car, the horsepower depending on the turbo mapping and last but not least, the gear ratios, is that correct? If not then please inform me.

    what about an indy car with no restrictions at all, a car with 1500-2000hp that is built to go as fast as possible, has toluene and ground effect and fans. How fast would this thing go, 500+kmh?

    • @hooyabaaa2
      @hooyabaaa2 Месяц назад +5

      The air resistance increases exponentially. 200 km/h is easy 200 hp or even less (a VW Golf for example) but you gonna need at least about 800 hp to hit 400 km/h with more or less the same aerodynamics and weight.
      That being said, 500 km/h is probally something possible for a light car (like an Indy car) and with good aero, BUT...
      500 km/h is dangerous to the tires. They wont survive for much time and putting that speed in OVALS is even more problematic, almost impossible IMO. The outside tires (the tires on the right, close to the wall), supports a lot of weight (by the bank of the curve + downforce + weight of the car being transfer) and receives an tremendous amount of punishmant at over 350 km/h...
      Formula 1 have a huge fail at Indianapolis beucase tires arent surviving their typical downforce configuration for track, at the outside ring of Indianapolis at 350 km/h.
