    I've been hanging out for the update. I enjoyed it, you have a very calm way of speaking and your edit suited me good. I'm going to be using your solution to run my Bluetti ac200max. I'll be running a 2000w inverter off of my crank battery with a fuse that I'll use as a type of disconnect. Because the setup is just for charging the bluetti while camping this set-up should be fine. I'm hoping my 180amp alt will allow me to put a full 1400w in. Do you like your Westinghouse induction cooktop? I just brought the twin plate vision which has 1000w and 1400w plates. Happy camping this summer. 🇳🇿

      How many watts could you get out of the inverter? I'm looking to do the same off of my crank battery and 170 amp alternator in an emergency power outage scenario.

      @@TheAutumnWind_RN4L I'm not sure. I've only used it to 500w. I haven't tried the 1400w yet.

    I’ve used your method on my sprinter van for a couple months now. Trying to find the optimal wattage to draw from my alternator while idling. Vans have a beefy 180a alternator, but that’s while driving I think. Thanks again!

      My transporter has a 140a I went with a 700w inverter that pulls 73a I have had not problems in 2 years and I live on the road full time this method definitely works

    Totally justified my reason for purchasing a power station instead of the typical solar set ups thank you enormously for this Blog i enjoyed every bit of it

    Great test. Not sure about all the sausage and bacon (nice as they are) but great to see the system in action. I am going to copy the set up for my sailboat.

    Thanks for the update video. I have a bluetti ac180 and was looking for a way to speed up the charge rather than the cigarette socket in the camper.

    Just came across your videos. They are very informative as I have just bought the delta Max 2000 for my RV and am trying to work out various ways of charging it. I have a 1000w inverter already, so good to know I can charge via that. However, as an older female I find the Delta is heavy to move around my RV and the supplied mains cable is short. Is it possible to use an extension cord to charge? If so, could you recommend one (provide link)? (am in Aus) Thanks

    • @ExpeditionAustralia
      @ExpeditionAustralia  11 месяцев назад +2

      You can use an extension cord from the inverter to the AC charging cable that came with the Delta Max. Any standard extension cord that you get from Bunnings etc. should be fine. Get one that is as long as it needs to be but not much longer.

      @@ExpeditionAustralia Thank you! I tried it last night & worked well. Limited the input as you indicated in your video. Am very happy with this solution. Keep up the good informative videos and thank you for responding.

    I do the same but charge my delta 2 at 350w. It’s no stress to the alternator and about 30a is pretty standard.

    Hi from Germany,
    Traveling with the Delta Max 2000 and the 400W Solar Panel as well. Its a great idea and im about to buy the 1000W inverter.
    My question is: Do i have to install the + and - cabel which comes with the inverter, directly to the starter battery? (Or where)
    Or is it also somehow possible through an internal 12V Socket (which has 8 Amps max i guess)
    A second battery is not needed right?
    Any help would be great! Thanks a lot.
    F.B.

    I saw some of your other videos and was convinced that i should do the same for my ecoflow. But ive now seen others saying that the inverter will draw way too much from the lead acid battery. They should only be a .2c discharge it seems. Any trouble with your battery?

    • @ExpeditionAustralia
      @ExpeditionAustralia  9 месяцев назад

      I haven’t had any issues with the battery but I dialled the charging of the EcoFlow down to 600W so as to not overtax the alternator. I’d recommend talking to an auto sparky about your specific setup.

  • @jakedickinson

    Great real world test.
    I’m looking to do something like this with either an inverter or dc/dc converter.
    That was my concern, how much the inverter would draw at 800w.
    Be interesting to know what the amp draw is at different eco flow charge settings?
    Do you know what amps your vehicle alternator is ?
    That would be a good reference.

    • @ExpeditionAustralia
      @ExpeditionAustralia  11 месяцев назад +2

      About 80 amps I think. I will do more testing at some stage and may even upgrade to a higher output alternator to see if we can get the full 1000w from the inverter. Not urgent though.

    Sorry if i missed it in the video. But how many amps is your alternator?

  • @2001cusito
    @2001cusito 9 месяцев назад

    Thank you for your video. My Ecoflow Delta 1300 is not adjustable for wattage input. When I charge it from a regular house outlet, it draws about 1050 watts. Does this mean that even with a powerful enough alternator and a 1000 inverter, it will not put out sufficient wattage to the Delta 1300 ? Even if it is at a slower pace ? Thanks again.

  • @rydawell
    @rydawell 11 месяцев назад

    very interesting! So your alternator is rated for around 60-80 amps of draw?

    • @ExpeditionAustralia
      @ExpeditionAustralia  11 месяцев назад

      About 80 I think. There are plenty of aftermarket options with much higher outputs so I might upgrade at some stage and be able to get the full 1000w out of the inverter.

    Good idea, but it can damage your car battery because the alternator will continue sending charge to your battery without knowing that it would be charged. Place a Victron Orion or similar.

    Can you hook it up to a good DC-DC charger?

    • @velianlodestone1249
      @velianlodestone1249 11 месяцев назад +1

      I believe you can hack the solar input to make it accept higher dc charge - the 100w limit on the cig lighter seems pretty standard though.

    • @ExpeditionAustralia
      @ExpeditionAustralia  11 месяцев назад

      Not sure if a DC-DC would help. You can run both DC and AC into the EcoFlow at the same time so you could have the inverter delivering whatever your alternator can handle and also power coming in from a solar panel on the roof.

    Will this system put more stress on the battery or alternator ?

    • @Energy_69
      @Energy_69 4 месяца назад

      All depends how much energy he is pulling from the inverter,.if he stays to around 500W or 600W should be ok,…anything over it can be a problem

    • @Energy_69
      @Energy_69 4 месяца назад

      Most of the systems with fuses or DC to DC are over the top in my opinion !
      Someone was saying I need to install a fuse to the car battery so when power station is full I can switch it off,..but as far as I’m aware you can do that by switching the inverter off manually or with remote if you install one ,..so I do not see the point putting fuse

    Your taking all the power from you alternator to your inverter from you 75amp engine battery 🪫 your alternator will be red hot 🥵 and your starter battery will die soon and you alternator as well dc to dc is the way so you don’t end up with a bigger bill when it all goes wrong 😑

    • @johnnysprocketz
      @johnnysprocketz 7 месяцев назад +1

      If that is true why hasn’t his alternator fried yet, never heard anyone who had this actually happen to them, only people “claiming” potential failures are forthcoming yet failure hasn’t occurred. Maybe you and your friends don’t understand electricity
