Thank you for the review. One big downside for me would be HDMI 2.0 - it means if I will connect it to my LG C1 OLED TV which supports 120hz it will be only 60hz.
this would have been a perfect laptop for me - I finally caved a bought an 2023 asus g14 last week for $999 - I've already upgraded it - it's fantastic. I just wish I had a slightly bigger screen. NIce review, as always.
Do you still have the laptop and were you able to fix your driver issues with updates? Thanks for the great review! I have have the smaller 14.5 inch slim pro 9i and am considering going for the larger display.
It works a lot better but battery life is still bad. I’d still suggest that AMD is the way to go, as it has been for several years now. Intel has a lot of catching up to do
What do you recommend, a yoga pro 9i with ultra core 9, 32gb ram, mini-led touch, rtx 4060 (2300€) or Legion slim 7i glacier white with 13700h, 32gb ram, rtx 4060, 3200 res screen (1550€). The Yoga is brand new with 3 years premium care warranty, while the Legion only has a one year warranty, and is from ebay, apparently had faulty ram which was repaired (checked repair ticket with lenovo) , the seller mentioned the faulty ram but claims the laptop was unused. I would mainly use it for music production but like doing some color grading when I have the time. I don't game. I wanted something that was closest to a Windows Macbook Pro laptop. (good screen, build, speakers, etc) The Legion just popped up and the difference in price is significant (800€) I would love to know what your recommendation would be. Is the Yoga pro 9i worth 800€ more? (I still have a chance to return the Yoga and buy the Legion if its still available) I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you and all the best!
Did you by chance take it out in the sun? I was planning to get this one and then ended up getting the Asus Zenbook S 16 and tested it outside today and wasn't as bright as I was hoping but love the lightweight. I like working outside at cafes. And I know this 9i gets the 1200 peak nits but does it hit that unplugged and easy to see in the sun? I'm debating going to get it at Best buy and if anything just return it back.
Hey, nice review... I'm doubtful on choosing between this and macbook pro. How noisey this laptop gets when compared to macbook pro M3 pro ? If I use chome and code on Vstudio at the same time does it get loud? Thanks
It will only get a bit noisy if using performance mode while gaming. Balanced doesn’t really get noisy ever, and the whole system will be silent when doing normal tasks
Would you recommend this or the new macbook pro for mainly video streaming and office work? I'm usually streaming video or RUclips, no gaming at all and don't need too many native pc apps
16" laptops should never have soldered wifi. A wifi card is small and it should be no problem fitting a socketed one. Further, if you're going to solder it, at least include the latest wifi version. Wi-Fi 6e is obsolete already and the laptop isn't even widely available yet
This is a bit of a weird and nitpicky one, but how's the contrast between the keys an the rest of the laptop? Is there enough of it to make the keys highly legible or is that grey too close to the rest of the laptop and too light to the point where the letters just blend in and become indistinguishable?

Lenovo has the better sales - i can get the 64 gb version with a 4070 cheaper than the Asus Zephyrus G16 with 4060 and 32 gb - so probably i should go with the lenovo anyway 3. How is the quality of the hinges in the lenovo - i read about hinges being a problem on lenovo laptops (especially the yoga slim models and ideapad) would be great to get a responds since i think it could help others as well - especially regarding the hinges
I have the same laptop, but HDR just seems to be really bad with a lot of BLOOMING on darker screen with texts. If tried playing around with the settings, updating the driver, replacing the OEM Intel Graphics driver with the INTEL ARC Graphics also download custom colour profiles but nothing seems to solve it. Bought it mainly to use the 1200 bits brightness but getting disappointed.

You can watch my gaming test, it’s out now on my channel. As for switching between iGPU and dGPU, use nvidia control panel, under display locate “advanced Optimus”
I noticed you added a new NVME drive, but when you booted up you have a Lenovo screen background, did you install Windows 11 on the new NVME and re-added the background image? Or did you somehow transfer the OS from the old NVME to the new?
You should collect the wallpapers first, they are located in: C:\windows\web In that folder all your background are present. there should be a “Lenovo” folder with your background

Audio: close but yoga wins Screen: yoga wins easily (mini led). Although the 3.2k screen on the 7i is much better than the 1600pz Battery life is bad on both. If that matters go AMD

Where are you located cuz here in the US it’s not available
@@christophervillanueva9909 It is now
One con about this device is that the screen does not have precision stylus support, so artists will need an external tablet to do art.
Thank you for the review. One big downside for me would be HDMI 2.0 - it means if I will connect it to my LG C1 OLED TV which supports 120hz it will be only 60hz.
The 2024 model is HDMI 2.1.
@@saturnotaku thank you.
this would have been a perfect laptop for me - I finally caved a bought an 2023 asus g14 last week for $999 - I've already upgraded it - it's fantastic. I just wish I had a slightly bigger screen. NIce review, as always.
I have a follow up review of the g14 2022 and 2023 coming soon. They are still awesome. I got one on the same sale as you :p
(good screen, build, speakers, etc)
The Legion just popped up and the difference in price is significant (800€)
I would love to know what your recommendation would be. Is the Yoga pro 9i worth 800€ more?
(I still have a chance to return the Yoga and buy the Legion if its still available)
I would really appreciate your advice.
Thank you and all the best!
Managed to grab this beauty for 1649 USD on Best Buy, I'm so excited thanks for the review man!
👀
Did you by chance take it out in the sun? I was planning to get this one and then ended up getting the Asus Zenbook S 16 and tested it outside today and wasn't as bright as I was hoping but love the lightweight. I like working outside at cafes. And I know this 9i gets the 1200 peak nits but does it hit that unplugged and easy to see in the sun? I'm debating going to get it at Best buy and if anything just return it back.
Great review, thank you. Which one would you say has better sound - Yoga Pro 9i or Legion 7i (2024)?
The yoga
Hey, nice review...
I'm doubtful on choosing between this and macbook pro. How noisey this laptop gets when compared to macbook pro M3 pro ? If I use chome and code on Vstudio at the same time does it get loud?
Thanks
It will only get a bit noisy if using performance mode while gaming. Balanced doesn’t really get noisy ever, and the whole system will be silent when doing normal tasks
Firefox, chrome is a hog
@@newolde1 For me the Safari browser on the MacBook is a misunderstanding, the worst browser I have ever used.
Would you recommend this or the new macbook pro for mainly video streaming and office work? I'm usually streaming video or RUclips, no gaming at all and don't need too many native pc apps
Very nice review and device. Does it have a kensington lock?
No it doesn’t
ur review is the best i've seen. subbed
16" laptops should never have soldered wifi. A wifi card is small and it should be no problem fitting a socketed one. Further, if you're going to solder it, at least include the latest wifi version. Wi-Fi 6e is obsolete already and the laptop isn't even widely available yet
Hello nice review :) Do you think getting the 4070 is worth it for gaming purposes?
This is a bit of a weird and nitpicky one, but how's the contrast between the keys an the rest of the laptop? Is there enough of it to make the keys highly legible or is that grey too close to the rest of the laptop and too light to the point where the letters just blend in and become indistinguishable?
Nice review! How did you fix the GPU driver upgrade isse? Having the same issue but I am not able to download the latest driver on the device.
No but you an try the Nvidia Beta software. I posted the issue to intel directly and also lenovo forums
Hi nice review , I need a laptop for video editing and stuff , can’t afford the Mac Pro , do you recommend this one or the specter x 360 16 inch ? , thanks for all
this is superior to an HP spectre. you will love it
Please get a quality microphone, I had to turn my speaker volume between 22% and 50% several times throughout the video to get an even volume
Does this laptop has single and multiple dimming zone display features on board like Asus?
Great review. Can you please share the stock wallpapers coming on this laptop?

Hello, i just subbed after your great review! Thank you !
I have three questions about the Yoga pro 9i - maybe you can help me.
1. would you take this over a Asus Zephyrus G16 (same specs)
2. Lenovo has the better sales - i can get the 64 gb version with a 4070 cheaper than the Asus Zephyrus G16 with 4060 and 32 gb - so probably i should go with the lenovo anyway
3. How is the quality of the hinges in the lenovo - i read about hinges being a problem on lenovo laptops (especially the yoga slim models and ideapad)
would be great to get a responds since i think it could help others as well - especially regarding the hinges
1. Yes. The g16 has very annoying fans
2. Get the Lenovo in this case
3. The hinges are grey in my testing
@@TechGuyBeau appreciated thx
The focal length you use for your camera is too distorted, difficult to grasp how the laptop looks like in reality
Sim tray is accompanied ?
Thanks for the review 🤝🏽 what do you think the typical life expectancy is on one of these laptops?
I had two Lenovo yoga’s, first one handed down to my son and it’s like 8 years old and still kicking. Got the c930 a few years, 2019, back and it is tough as nails. Still runs fantastic.
Great review, do you know if enabling HDR boosts the brightness for windows apps near its 1200 nits peak brightness?
Theoretically yes. I don’t have a measure tool but it does sear the eyes
i know this year its suppose to have close to 1600 dimming zones compared to last years model had 1200 dimming zones
Just received mine. I managed to install Nvidia game ready drivers jutst fine using geforce experience. Also your Lenovo Vantage program look svery different to the new MS Store version. Maybe that caused an issue?
can you share the configuration u use in your tests? like resolution, efficiency/power/balance mode, etc. Also, how did you change from iGPU to the nVidia? :o
You should collect the wallpapers first, they are located in:
C:\windows\web
In that folder all your background are present. there should be a “Lenovo” folder with your background
@@TechGuyBeau thank you!
I am getting 1TB SSD, but wanting to double it at least. For the additional SSD I want to add, can I go over 1TB? Also which one would be recomended for this machine? I appreciate this very detailed review. Thank you so much.
You can add at least 4tb per slot
Amazing review! How would you compare this screen compared to a MacBook Pro 16 screen?
Technically this has a better screen. But they are close
@@TechGuyBeau Thanks for the reply! do you know the difference in number of dimming zones between them?
This have up to 1500 dimming zones, mac have 2500@dustydynasty802
@@4ernuy89 great! Unfortunately the only configuration available in my country has the mini led NON TOUCH display which would have been great except it’s apparently matte and not glossy like the touch configuration. Disappointing
Did you have the discharge on 170 watt power supply that they are talking about on Reddit? Basically battery drains while on power supply during performance mode
How does the gaming capabilities (and the corresponding fan noise) compare to the Legion Slim 5 14"? I'd much prefer the 14" size, but am very tempted by the lower fan noise i keep hearing about this laptop.
Gaming will be basically identical to the legion 5 14”. 100 watt 4060/70 is basically
Awesome review. Thank you for this detailed review of this model.
For an windows laptop this lenovo model is awesome. In my region it is priced at ~2500€.
What do you think about this model compated to the macbook pro m3 max ? Price difference is of ~1000€. I've found m3 max at the same price as m3 pro.
The laptop will be used for programming, daily tasks, probably some LLM, AI in the near future. Thinking about doing cross platform development also, but not 100% sure (only if i go with macOS will include iOS also).
What do you think it is a good long term option?
Mac has advantages for things like battery, however for compatibility value go yoga
Thanks for the video, can I ask that in my region the yoga pro 9i haven't come out yet, there is the new yoga pro 7i gen 9 with Core Ultra 9 and rtx 4060, do you think it would have the same performance and good thermals like the new yoga pro 9i gen 9?
Get the 3.2k screen and you will love it
@@TechGuyBeau right now in my place the price is the same as rog flow x16 4060 13th gen I9 with 240hz Mini-Led screen, which one do you think I should get?
Since you're the only person who has experienced both the 2023 and 2024 versions, I want to ask you something. Do you feel that the quality of the mini LED display has been upgraded in 2024 compared to 2023? Or has the specification been improved? (Although it appears the same on the surface).
They are both incredibly nice. this years model is the nicest screen I’ve ever used, last years was also supremely nice
can you compare it to legion 7i 2024 ? audio screen quality and battery life wise
Audio: close but yoga wins
Screen: yoga wins easily (mini led). Although the 3.2k screen on the 7i is much better than the 1600pz
Battery life is bad on both. If that matters go AMD
Sir, I'd like to ask you two things from Korea.😊
1. Did the glass panel you purchased come with an anti-reflective coating, or is it a version without the anti-reflective treatment?
2. I bought the 2023 version but ended up selling it because the mini LED flickering was too severe for me to use. I'm very curious if the 2024 version still has the flickering issue.
I don’t notice any flickering. Also there was no anti reflective coating
@@TechGuyBeau Thanks for response.
Could you please answer one more question?
I'm curious whether you think using a Mini LED version for working on PDF documents or Excel for 3-4 hours a day would not cause eye fatigue or discomfort. Or would it be better to opt for an IPS version for document work?
@@고민이고민이다personally I find it better. I stare at words and spreadsheets all day. Fine resolution, bright, with good colours helps me. You can turn the brightness high when needed and down when not. Typically I prefer niniLED over even OLED in this regard
@@고민이고민이다 I thought it was Oled screens that suffer from PWM at lower brightness?
Quick question regarding this laptop's color. I ordered mine in Tidal Teal because the Luna Grey looks much lighter than last year's grey and in videos / photos and such. I see that you were using the lights at home (yellow light?) and it looks much darker in this video. Does it look more light or dark in this color? In this video I like the color and maybe should have gone with this one haha. Curious to how you perceived this color IRL. Great video!
It’s not that dark, it’s fairly middling grey. I’ve used some blue yoga laptops from Lenovo, they are quite lovely
What would you think of the 4060 and IPS touch screen version?
I have a pretty good offer at the moment with those specs
Thank you!!
Depends on the price difference. If it’s quite a bit lower go for it
@@TechGuyBeau Hi, love your honest review man! so.... I accidentally bought the IPS version of the laptop (didn't read the specification properly), my country kinda suck in return policy so I can only sell this laptop. Do you think its smart to sell this laptop and buy the miniled version? I'm feeling really dumb rn, is the quality of 3.2k IPS drastic from 3.2k Mini-led ? I noticed you have experienced the 3.2k in the thinkpad, how better is the miniled from the IPS? Is it like 30% better? Thanks !
I have had the driver problem on two different legion units now! Also on the 2024 Legion 7i ... Vantage did not find any drivers even thought the Laptop came without any drivers... not even the keybord or the mousepad were working...
Did you do a fresh windows install? It’s not u common for windows to not find trackpad drivers
@@TechGuyBeau Yeah, I did
This is truly a great laptop. Great review. Will there be a 14-inch version for sale?
already is actually yoga 7
@@TechGuyBeau thanks!
is this laptop with haptic touchpad?
No, only the z13 and z16 have those for now
Good review, try Zephyrus G16 2024 , see if it can beat this one in sound and display exercises )
I think it can completely best every laptop in terms of screen wobbling
I was looking into this laptop, except I just dont do numberpads, it kills the entire laptop for me.. no matter how good everything else is...
hi, would you choose Lenovo - Yoga Pro 9i 16" 3.2K Touchscreen Laptop - Intel Core Ultra 9 185H with 32GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 - 1TB SSD - Luna Grey for $1899 or Lenovo - Slim Pro 9i 14.5" 3k MiniLED Touchscreen Laptop - Core i7-13705H with 32GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 - 1TB SSD - Storm Grey for $1399. Both in Best Buy. Thank you.
Do you know whether you can use a pen with this on the touchscreen version? Also, if I was to watch youtube videos on battery, how much would I get out of it?
I don't think it has pen support
Hi there, do you think this laptop would be suitable for an engineering degree?
How does the sound compare to the thinkbook 16p from last year? You said that had pretty good speakers as well
Thinkbook 16p is really good… the yoga 9i is exceptionally good. The only laptop on the market I’ve touched with better speakers was the MacBook Pro 16 m2
@@TechGuyBeau can you compare the speakers to asus G16 and G14, they seem to have good speakers too.
How does this laptop compare to the legion lineup (likes the slim 7) in silent mode gaming? Comparable performance and noise?
Silent mode it’s a bit better on AMD laptops, but it’s still good here. AMD chips are more efficient on low wattages when compared to really anything Intel. The gpu will perform identically
best review. natural
Great review!
Been considering this one with the 32 gb ram and a 4060. Anyone using this for development? Considering getting this mainly for content creation but also maybe a tiny bit in CAD and Blender.
What do you think is better in terms of battery performance ThinkBook 16p Gen 5 (16” Intel) or Yoga Pro 9i (16″ Intel)
They both aren’t great but the yoga is probably twice the battery life
Hi, Im very torn between this and the new Legion 7i, I want to do heavy 3D work on it like run simulation in Houdini etc, but I want to do some solid AAA gaming like Alan Wake 2 etc, would you recommend this or the Legion 7i? they are so similar even in price point, only difference is Legion feeds on more power and is slightly less portable
When it comes to raw power the 4060/70 don’t really benefit above 100 watts. So it’s really up to you. With prices being the same I’d take the yoga 9i
