The Carpenters are the only group that consistently has me in tears when I listen to them. You don't even need to begin to understand their music, Karen's voice is more than enough to take you on an emotional rollercoaster.
She has one of the best voices ever. 😊😊😊😊😊
This song was first done for a Crocker Bank commercial. Richard took it and made it theirs.
Karen Carpenter is a legend. When you have 14 #1 songs on the adult cotemporary charts in 5 years that is incredible. 3 #1's and 5 # 2's on Billboard 100. Also is a drummer admired by many as the best. Her voice is rated #1 on Xm/Sirius 70's on 7. No one has ever sounded like Carpenters before or after.
😄
The Carpenters are ICONS! Karen had the most beautiful voice ever. Unfortunately, she passed away from Anorexia. It is an eating disorder. Karen and Richard are sister and brother. She is so very missed! Love your reaction!
LET THE SONG BEGIN YOU WILL TALK BETER LATER !...
She did not sing on the commercial Paul Williams (one of the writers) did. Richard saw the commercial and called Williams (who was also signed with A&M records) and ask if it was a full song Williams said yes (but admitted he would have said yes even if it were not yet). Williams went on to be a singer song writer and actor. It was Carpenters third single and included it on the LP Close to You. Released in late summer 1970. I saw them several times as the Dick Carpenter Jazz Trio in clubs around LA. Karen did not sing back then but as a 15 to 18 year old jazz drummer she was phenomenal. I was 27 when their first album came out (1969 Karen was 19 by then) There were many great singers in the 70s but no one could touch your soul like Miss Carpenter.
No, she did not. Only after they crafted a full song did she record it. Those who believe she sang on the commercial, well, that's a crock (er).
In my opinion (and that if my heart and soul), you are listening to the finest pure tonal voice of all time. Of all time.
Songwriter Paul Williams and Richard Nichols wrote this, wa shear din part in the commercial and as i understand it, completed the song when Richard Carpenter contacted the m. in turn of course Richard arranged all vocals and instrumentation. it was the Carpenters 2nd go single and 2nd big hit in 1970. Went to number 2 on billboard hot 100,which is totally like number 1 anyway... Karen was only 20!!! Karen was a real fine drummer too but here they are all made to stand and sing to the record on the variety show without instruments. I was 14 and had a terrible crush on Karen....
Thank you for your reaction to this Carpenters song. Please also react to their song called, "Superstar" - peace.
👍👍An awesome performance. 🖖❤
The truly sad thing about them is she is the Female voice of a generation for sure as far as on key wonderful technical sound that just so rare to hear. The reason I say it is sad is who is my generations Karen or "I am gen X" who is Z's and so on? I grew up we had some really big names maybe more well known that Karen Carpenter but let me be honest I can name maybe 3 voices that may have been as good. Also if you have never seen it check her drumming skills Girl was wild with some stick's she was a wonderful drummer as well. Talent like her is just unthinkable this day and age that is what is sad.
I remember seeing that commercial and immediately being struck by the song. I was about 9 or ten. Later when The Carpenters song came out I thought the commercial had ripped off their song! I was definitely confused, but what a song Paul Williams wrote. And what a classic Richard and Karen produced. Sublime.
Wow, you did your research. That's extremely uncommon with reactors. Good work. Enjoyed the reading of the lyric explanation ahead of it.
Hi, I’m not sure why you have the same reaction twice with two different covers? But if you’re willing to check out a true second version, here ya go. For the first time in 54 years this song has been covered correctly and with love and respect. IMHO as an OG Carpenters fan, I’ve never heard a Carpenters song given this treatment. It was a world wide effort that took years to complete. The original effort was stopped because of the untimely passing of the lead vocalist. Jim, the man behind this, was sure his work was going unfinished. Then RUclips did what it does and introduced him to The Voice he was hoping for. You heard the magical original by Karen and Richard Carpenter. Brace yourself for the cover.
Very important! This is an independent work and should not be filtered. It is crucial to be able to see the video work involved. It has been reacted to over 40 times and no one has had any issues. So it should be presented, as intended. As you will see how important seeing the imagery is.
The music by Paul Williams (lyrics) and Roger Nichols (music) are intact, so the only real analysis is the performance. How did they all do?
I hope you enjoy this very rare treat.

Sharing horizons is the best part of the song and you stopped it both times it started. Musical appreciation is not your strong point
