Maybe the "live crowd" and the "live performance" wasn't really live, but meant to portray those early years in weird venues with weird crowds that many musicians play when starting out? Maybe.... Or maybe I'm high right now. If that crowd were really there live.. Then clearly the leader of the weird cult who meet weekly at the banquet hall next door had been arrested right before the meeting started.... And you know how cult members are without a leader... Dazed, confused and blankly staring into oblivion waiting for instructions on what to do now.... From Someone!!! So they shuffled quickly to where they heard someone on a microphone next door hoping.... 😂

Otto Jones omg they pissed me off so much. HOW can you sit there and watch him and not have your jaw on the floor. I can't wait to see him live again. It was epic.
Saw Gillian and Dave in Asheville at the beginning of a tour a few years ago - it was chaos. Crowd dancing, singing along, spilling beer, cheering at each new song. Was so excited to hear that they were ending the tour at the Ryman almost a year later, couldn't wait to see them on my first visit to that historic location. The history was awesome, the music was amazing...and folks sat quietly and golf clapped at the end of each song. It's incredible how much impact the crowd can have on the music and the experience.
I've seen Hayes a half dozen times or so between Knuckleheads, Cain's and The Cotillian. I've seen 4 weekday shows, 1 at each, 2 in KC and a weekend show in KC and Tulsa. Thus, I've seen smaller crowds, bigger crowds, crap weather and beautiful nights. That being said, two things were the same at all 6. The crowd was freaking feeling it and Hayes, even in his darkest period, poured his heart out through his songs and stories. He is truly a jewel of our time.
