Boxer dogs were originally bred to be medium-size guard dogs. Today, although they are a part of the AKC’s Working Group, Boxers mostly find homes as loving family companions. That said, they still retain their high energy levels and need plenty of exercise.
Square-jawed and muscular, this breed is the George Clooney of the dog world-a looker with a sense of humor and an underlying sweetness. They adore their families and will also appreciate consistent training that doesn’t rely on harsh reprimands.
Love my Boxer! He turns 14 tomorrow. He wanted to play fetch today! Only went for it twice and was done but just happy he is still mobile and happy for his age. Vet has renamed him Moses lol. He is getting weaker and has arthritis but still has quality of life. He has been a pure joy to have.

I lost Herr Noble after 9 years. Silent and Huge. He never said a word just tilted his head. Then punched the shit out. 105 Lbs.
They are the biggest clown you’ll ever play with. Only once did I see my dog become protective, and that told me something was WRONG outside the house. Greatest dog ever!

My first dog was a boxer, second dog was a German Shepard. Since both have passed to doggie heaven. I recently picked up a boxer puppy at 8 weeks and am so excited to have another boxer. Literally one of the best dogs around!

Was born with boxers have had them in my since. They are my breed of choice. I've had both fawn and brindle always with a lot of chrome on them. Never had less than two at any given time. Male and female pairings is the way to go. Extraordinary breed!! Going on 56 years with the breed in my life. I have been blessed!!

Do you find that having two boxers make them less attached to you because they have each other or is that not the case?
@@aneta6839 not at all. For me it helped in their training and when you leave them for any reason they are far less prone to suffer from separation anxiety. I have always had male and female pairings. Two males can have dominance issues.

Just lost my best friend in February. I miss her so. She was almost six died of a heart attack and had a tumor. She was a great loyal dog. We gave her a great life ❤

One of my absolute favorite breeds along with the staff and pit.. Always loving, always loyal, loves camping and hiking, jumping off the boat every time I put his the life vest on.. I didn't say you can go yet 😆😆 Love this breed!

My German boxer lad is 4 today. He's a 75 pound tank who will defend the family, and be a clown and shadow the rest of the time. Attentive, smart, loyal, observant and goofy are the words to describe boxers.

I miss my Boxer Dory she was fawn had her less then 4 yrs she was 6 1/2 when I adopted her she passed away on October 28, 2017 she was 10 yrs 4 mo :)

My dog is a 2nd generation boxerXbullmastiff (both parents were boxerXbullmastiff as well but not siblings). Almost 1.5 y/o. I couldn’t ask for a better dog she’s amazing. Growing up I’ve had many dogs from Border Collies, Golden Retrievers, and Bernese Mountain Dogs, to Akitas, Shiba Inus,and shih tzu’s. My dad had a Bernese and a Saint Bernard and currently has two huge Newfoundland dogs (120lbs and 135lbs still growing). As much as I’ve loved all my dogs. My boxer is the best dog I’ve ever had. She listens great she doesn’t bark too much, she has the perfect temperament she doesn’t need tons of exercise and she’s always happy. Overall, she is the best dog I could possibly ask for. I would get another boxer without a doubt. 10/10 best dogs. All dogs have something about them that makes them great, but boxers have EVERYTHING about them that makes them great lol.
My family has had 5 boxers, one lived to 16 years, one to 15 years, one to 10 years - he was struck in a down ward move that dislocated his spine and unable to use his back legs ( note this was done by someone nolonger allowed here),one to 6 years - she passed do to cancer, and a pup who only lived to 6 months due to brain abnormalities. Boxers are absolutely fantastic family companions, service dogs and single people. If I wasn't in my 60's I would most definitely have another one.

Had a boxer for 9 great, amazing years. My best years. She brought me so much joy. Defo recommend getting a boxer but make sure you screen the parents for heart and cancer problems. Common problem with these dogs.
Yes to all of this. My dog has had 3 cancer scares. Be sure you know the possibility if you can.
My friend has a boxer/lab mix. That dog is ENERGETIC.
First for one of the best breeds
I really want a boxer but I work a full time job. I got my first boxer when I was 12 and I trained him to go off leash in a field and on our lawn in just 3 weeks at the age of 15 weeks. I work a full time job and I am going to give him 1 hour of field exercise in the morning and 1-2 hours when I come home. I will also be paying a neighbourhood kid to walk my dog around the block and play with him in my backyard for a bit. Do you think my dog will be ok.
I had an intelligent, beautiful & joyful girl for 10 years. Sadly this breed tends to get lots of types of cancer at that’s what happened to her in the end. Still, she played and cuddle without complain until she had no force to get up on all fours.

Owned them all my life. Majestic with ears cropped, but I'm necessarily for that. Just a gorgeous with regular ears.

My mom has a boxer and it charges me every time I go near her, and attacks the back of my legs; even drawing blood from me and her when she tries to stop it. I live in the same household. The dog also lays still and doesn’t eat until she gets back. The dog is super chill and listens to commands when she is not home, but the moment she comes home I am the enemy. Why does this happen?

We had a boxer when I was a kid, my parents and I were first time dog owners and totally unprepared for a boxer but here's what I can say. We lived in a small condo but Baxter didn't mind and was happy because we were home a lot and get him a ton of excercise in a nearby forest. About an hour a day of off leash exercising, running etc. This is crucial in order to stop boxer from going nuts, they are incredibly high energy and remain like that until the old age if their health allows it.
They dont like staying home alone. If you work long hours don't get a boxer, they will be miserable and start destroying things. Baxter was not a destroyer unless we left him alone for half a day or something, then we'd find an anxiety poop in a middle of the carpet and a trashed house. Be gentle with their training and don't be too critical of them, scream at them, punish them etc. They react very well to reward and praise based training. Socialize them with other dogs. Baxter loved all dogs as a younger guy but when he got older he turned out to be aggressive towards other dogs because he wasn't socializing enough. He also became quite territorial as an older dog, ie he'd want to sleep in my parents bed and because they did let him for many years if you then tried to get him to get off the bed he'd growl and be visibly angry. I later found out these are just regular things to watch out for with boxers. They are fantastic family pets, they love children, they love to play, they stay in a silly puppy mode for many years. If you have a house with a yard and a big family your boxer will be in heaven. But like I said ours did fine in a small condo too because we'd exercise him a lot. Lots of dog channels/articles don't recommend boxers for first time dog owners but I'd say as long as you do your proper research and realize it takes work and commitment to ensure your pup is happy and well behaved go for it.
What did you do with him if you needed to go out of town for the day? I'm home most of the time and can crate for short periods, but what if a longer outing?

The Boxer is my favorite breed. Ive owned a few of them and recently just lost my Bella in February. The only thing that scares me about boxers is they have health issues including cancers and cardiomyopathy

Boxers are a perfect mix between being bulky and athletic (in my opinion) with a pretty impressive head and lean strong bodies, really love this breed and their expression always makes me smile! But they're energy bombs so prepare for exercise 😋
Boxers are unbelievable dogs when bred well. But they are the worst when bred poorly. Sincerely from someone who has a working boxer and has rescued and trained many.
I had and bred boxers before Rottweilers. They are just lovely dogs. The only problem I ever had was that they are very high energy dogs and I am not athletic😇

My boxer is a thief steals anything made of fabric and paper and loves to steal remotes. But he is so cute its hard to get mad at him and he knows it
@Kurt oh he will steal food too he is just lucky he is cute. I think he knows he's cute and uses that to his advantage. He has my girlfriend trained as well. The only way she can get things away from him is to give him a treat in exchange for the stolen item

Are boxers friendly and good with smaller dogs?
It depends on how well each dog is socialized. Boxers, if not socialized properly at a young age, can easily become protective of their humans and stand-offish towards other dogs. Young Boxers can sometimes be too energetic for smaller dogs (the high energy may intimidate the smaller dog). I will say I’ve seen many many dog pairs that are big and little that get along just fine.

The red tiger bulldog is not a breed. It is just a coat color of the American Bulldog.

I have a 5 and half month old male boxer. We have had him since he was 9 weeks. Potty training is a STRUGGLE! This is our 2nd boxer in life and I didn’t have this kind of issue with the first one who died. Any advice?
maybe try putting bells near the door so you can train him to notify you and reward him when he does
EMILIO. A Thanks for your note. You are the 2nd person to mention the bell. So, we are getting one for reinforcement. He actually goes to the door letting us know he needs to go out. However, sometimes he doesn’t or maybe within 15/30 minutes of going out he’ll just pee in the house. This is the frustrating part.

Excellent breed, they have one drawback and that is snoring . You can't sleep with a Boxer .

Tulley Rue is 98 Lbs 4 year old that will attach and rip the protection gear and only (Call) pulls him to me with hugs. They are the Joker of Dogs. He understands when in gear he must finish a fight. Unless I call for him. I always have a pair so been amused when both get in a public place with people.
I used to look at boxers and other mastiffs were just plain ugly...Now I think they are some of the best looking dogs

Boxers are nice, but they are overly energetic, they don't like staying in one spot at all.
Our boxer girl is not like that. She can without a problem lay in one spot, and she is very calm at home. As long as she gets her exercise and mental stimulation, we never experience the "over energetic".
