Yang is a fist-fighter, she _could_ wield a hammer like Nora but she wouldn't be as good with it even if she spent just as long practicing with it as she did with Ember Celica. Same thing with Ruby and Crescent Rose; she could wield a sword or a spear instead, but a giant scythe is the weapon that works best, the one that resonates with her soul, thus making it the easiest for her to express her aura with.

@@madladdie7069 i dont remember where to fact check this but its because her semblnece requires massive amounts of her body's energy and stamina (better explained in V8 but I wont spoil), this means if she uses too much it in normal fights where recovery time is not guaranteed it can leave her massively venerable as she wont have the energy to fight if it wasn't a finishing move or there is a ton of enemies this is why she didn't really use it in combat till V4 because her body has gotten more efficient at storing energy but its still heavily draining

The assumption that it can drain her quickly isn't that hard to make considering she grew tired in V2 when carrying Penny.

@@s-094cam5 Time of useful consciousness is 1-2 minutes at 30,000 feet. Given the entire fight is just under 5 minutes there's plenty of time for Yang to go up, peak in her arc and then come back down.

i like the nod to physics at the end. ruby's charge cracked the wall when she stopped. she never touched it, but the air moved fast enough to break the wall. not that the rest of the fight or even most of that scene had anything to do with physics.

This was Monty Oum (creator and also did the old animations). My first exposure to him was Dead Fantasy. I didn't even know this was his work as well. Of course... due to him being gone, vol.3 onward are clearly different, for better and worse.

see the thing which gets to me is this isn't your average food fight (ofc not but still) 1 glass plates, 2 metal rods, 3 broken ceiling and support beam made of stone-, and of semblances. like if we took out the semblances these kids are straight up having fun by breaking each other's bones, because of a food fight-

+relez ze algerian 2. Yang was fine after the fall. Clearly while the shot had power Nora cant deal with Yang's recovery or endurance. If the one shot is all she has bad thing. Still this did have a bit of an o**** moment when Weiss nearly bought it. The shot knocked her out cold, if the statue had fallen on her... It forced Ruby to break out her semblence. We Learned a few neat things about it. 1: Difficult to use in small areas. 2: Range is very long 3: Can create an incredibly powerful vortex that drags things along with it. 4: In final form it grants her flight. Things to keep aware of as season 3 rolls along.

But yang loses the least when losing her weapon out of everyone.... Nora's hit also lost alot due to her not having her weapon.. also tbh the whole thing was done for fun by rt... even weiss being knocked out was so ruby could only her whole... "noooooooo" scene.. so they weren't really going to have characters take damage.. unless like weiss it was for a joke. . Which it was.. because it ended up being a huge troll for the second trailer.
I'm not saying she would beat yang in a one on one fight btw.. I think you miss understood that.. tbh I don't know who would win.. both or their semblance's boost power. . And speed.. also yangs endurance isn't that outstanding.. neo knocked her out.. without anything too flashy
Saw a few comments asking why the food was so tough and such. The reason is aura. It can act as a personal shield (why the did not die beating the helll out of each other) or be used to alter/enhance their weapons (why the food was so tough).
Indeed! Some people find this scene silly because of the sturdy food, but think about it: Without aura protecting also weapons, clothing and other gear they would break and tear all the time!
Literally the best scene in the whole show. It also shows how powerful Ruby is. Although throughout the rest of the volumes including eight I have never seen her use her powers like that again or in a similar way to make a cyclone type wind thing.
Ruby needs to get angry to use power up. In this episode, she gets angry for Weiss and be stronger. Well, in other episodes she's like that. But hurting Weiss to make Ruby angry for each fight isn't nice for... Various reasons. I suppose so
it's possible it uses a ton of energy and isn't viable in actual combat. In the V4 character short Ruby does levitate the Harambe Grimm into the air using her Semblance. Kind of like a less intense version of this.
They played with their food, but instead of high school/college level food fights, we get property damage because they're people with superpowers. That's sort of why they just get a warning to eat their food instead of playing with it. Freaking out at them over the damage caused won't change anything. THey're just children playing, the key difference being that they were children with POWAHS. So how should they be dealt with? Like you're dealing with children. "Please. Don't. Play. WIth. Your. Food." :D
Monty actually did animate some of Volume 3's fights, partially (he wasn't able to finish them, though, since he died, and one of his WIP fights for Volume 3 was actually cut), anything Monty didn't do for Volume 3 was done by Shane Newville and Dillon Gu.
It’s not that their aura was able to sell size food, except for Pyra , but whatever. It’s just that they are skilled enough to wield food as weapons, and defy logic at that.

This scene is when it became apparent that a lot of the fandom doesn't understand what a physical gag is and exibit B of how Monty's "Cool Rule" could screw with power scaling in the series.
Its not that big of a deal. The power scaling isnt as important here as it isnt technical show like say hajime no ippo or maybe gunter x hunter. If you look too closely at rwby, you start to see flaws, except with fight scenes. The closer you look tge better they get.
every entity is a conduit for aura. it means if one can use aura. his/her weapon (whatever that is) can be protected by aura. thats why even a sheet of paper cant be easily be torn if held by a good aura user
When yang hits her hands together with the turkeys you can see her aura flash a little detail that's easily overlooked so yes they're using their aura on the food
This is a prime example of what a good fight scene is. It shows character & preference as well as the 'jokingly' intense combat, unlike modern rwby, you can feel every impact slash & dash. I'd prefer Rooster Teeth to re-animate these same scenes with the new style.

It just occurred to me that this was one of, if not the only time, that these two teams battled against each other "seriously".
i like the nod to physics at the end. ruby's charge cracked the wall when she stopped. she never touched it, but the air moved fast enough to break the wall. not that the rest of the fight or even most of that scene had anything to do with physics.

Lol, i became a fan solely for the fights. Rubies voice got annoying and she had barely any leadersgip qualites imo. I liked her personaliylty though. I think rwby might be the top of my fight scenes list for shows. Monty did all that with those trashy models. Check out the camera work. It hides the flaws so well

My first exposure to him was Dead Fantasy. I didn't even know this was his work as well.
Of course... due to him being gone, vol.3 onward are clearly different, for better and worse.
I have no idea why else you'd become a fan except for music.
so, this started out as your average Huntsman food fight, then it started escalating when Blake and then Weiss use their semblances, then Nora took it up a notch and used hers to hammer Weiss into the pillar, before Pyrrah activated hers, causing Ruby to go in for the kill

+relez ze algerian 2. Yang was fine after the fall. Clearly while the shot had power Nora cant deal with Yang's recovery or endurance. If the one shot is all she has bad thing. Still this did have a bit of an o**** moment when Weiss nearly bought it. The shot knocked her out cold, if the statue had fallen on her... It forced Ruby to break out her semblence. We Learned a few neat things about it. 1: Difficult to use in small areas. 2: Range is very long 3: Can create an incredibly powerful vortex that drags things along with it. 4: In final form it grants her flight. Things to keep aware of as season 3 rolls along.

relez ze algerian Remember yang did not have her main weapons. The power of those things can force a change in direction. In an actual fight between the two, Yang would have rejoined the battle far more quickly. Where as Nora basically had her weapon.
But yang loses the least when losing her weapon out of everyone.... Nora's hit also lost alot due to her not having her weapon.. also tbh the whole thing was done for fun by rt... even weiss being knocked out was so ruby could only her whole... "noooooooo" scene.. so they weren't really going to have characters take damage.. unless like weiss it was for a joke. . Which it was.. because it ended up being a huge troll for the second trailer.
I'm not saying she would beat yang in a one on one fight btw.. I think you miss understood that.. tbh I don't know who would win.. both or their semblance's boost power. . And speed.. also yangs endurance isn't that outstanding.. neo knocked her out.. without anything too flashy

Saw a few comments asking why the food was so tough and such. The reason is aura. It can act as a personal shield (why the did not die beating the helll out of each other) or be used to alter/enhance their weapons (why the food was so tough).

Literally the best scene in the whole show. It also shows how powerful Ruby is. Although throughout the rest of the volumes including eight I have never seen her use her powers like that again or in a similar way to make a cyclone type wind thing.
Ruby needs to get angry to use power up. In this episode, she gets angry for Weiss and be stronger. Well, in other episodes she's like that. But hurting Weiss to make Ruby angry for each fight isn't nice for... Various reasons. I suppose so
it's possible it uses a ton of energy and isn't viable in actual combat.
In the V4 character short Ruby does levitate the Harambe Grimm into the air using her Semblance. Kind of like a less intense version of this.

They played with their food, but instead of high school/college level food fights, we get property damage because they're people with superpowers.
That's sort of why they just get a warning to eat their food instead of playing with it. Freaking out at them over the damage caused won't change anything.
THey're just children playing, the key difference being that they were children with POWAHS. So how should they be dealt with? Like you're dealing with children.

Monty actually did animate some of Volume 3's fights, partially (he wasn't able to finish them, though, since he died, and one of his WIP fights for Volume 3 was actually cut), anything Monty didn't do for Volume 3 was done by Shane Newville and Dillon Gu.

Aura it tanks a lot of damage before its overwelmed. It can heal what it cant block too.
This scene is when it became apparent that a lot of the fandom doesn't understand what a physical gag is and exibit B of how Monty's "Cool Rule" could screw with power scaling in the series.
Its not that big of a deal. The power scaling isnt as important here as it isnt technical show like say hajime no ippo or maybe gunter x hunter. If you look too closely at rwby, you start to see flaws, except with fight scenes. The closer you look tge better they get.

I mean you can thing of it as them extending their aura around the food to strengthen them.
every entity is a conduit for aura. it means if one can use aura. his/her weapon (whatever that is) can be protected by aura. thats why even a sheet of paper cant be easily be torn if held by a good aura user
When yang hits her hands together with the turkeys you can see her aura flash a little detail that's easily overlooked so yes they're using their aura on the food

That food fight was a massive upgrade from "I threw a banana at a guy!" :)
This is a prime example of what a good fight scene is. It shows character & preference as well as the 'jokingly' intense combat, unlike modern rwby, you can feel every impact slash & dash.
I'd prefer Rooster Teeth to re-animate these same scenes with the new style.
I'd prefer RT took hints from the fights in V1 & V2 and used that concept in the fights going forward. V5's final fight was disappointing.
