I Eat A Wild Pigeon After Setting Tent At Local's House | Cycling In Vanuatu, South Pacific

  • I've cycled in the main island of Vanuatu, the South Pacific. After setting my tent at local people's house, I was invited at dinner. And there was the meat I've ever tried before. It was a wild pigeon. It was quite tough meat. But I've heard if you cook in the oven, the meat is very soft. Anyway, it as really amazing experience to meet local people and try local food.
    On the road, I've found a cave but to enter the cave alone was scared that I hesitated at first. This is problem that I got scared too easily. But later I entered after getting courage.
    To cycle around Vanuatu's main island was epic travel.

    Great videos Jin. I’m a recent sub and binge watching your channel. Appreciate the effort to set up your takes. Re the bat. I think the locals can make things up sometimes with visitors. Pays to look up online and confirm. That looked more like pigeon to me. I used to eat both pigeons and bats, growing up. Both are delicious to my Pacific Island palate. The bat is all black with a thickish skin, fatty and gamey to the taste and a head like a rat’s. Pigeon looks like this, 19:32, red feet with goosebumpy skin. It’s a very oily but delicious eating bird. You’re shown Vanuatu off in all her beauty; landscapes, people and culture. The hospitality is warm and welcoming and that good organic food, yum!

    I think all those people shouting greetings would be more exhausting for me than the cycling. Respect to you for always having a cheery response - I must admit to having been quite grumpy at times on bike tours when constant random greetings got too much.

    • @universewithme
      @universewithme  Год назад +4

      I love greeting while cycling that I enjoy it so much. That's why I put many of them on the video. What makes me really tired on the road is that sometimes I am very tired once I stop cycling. So I just want to have the rest. Then people ask me endlessly all those same questions over and over like "Where are going? why cycling? where cycling from?". That makes me exhausted as people don't let me have the rest but keeping asking same question over and over.

    thank you for visiting vanuatu and for showing me my country through your eyes. you might have noticed that some behaviors coming from my people are not very acceptable and this might be because of the different ways we look at foreigners, especially Port vila since it is a melding spot of different cultures and ways of thinking coming from different Islands but we are in general happy and friendly people. I hope you enjoy my country. if you are still in port vila I hope to see you around.

    You did very well to ride down Klems Hill without crashing. When I lived in Vanuatu in the 1970s (when the country was known as the New Hebrides) only a few roads close to and in Port Vila were tar sealed, the road around the island was surfaced with either coral or gravel. If it rained a lot it was difficult to drive along some sections even in a four wheeled drive vehicle. Occasionally roads and bridges were washed away. It is nice to hear that the people are still friendly and helpful.
