@@sandraragole2679 I'm going to be installing one in a mobile home in NH.
Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ruclips.net/user/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
*This unit works like a charm. Keeps my room 20 x 20 very **Fastly.Cool** . I recommend to anyone that wants to keep a room cold without having to turn on the main a/c.*
Hey MrCool, in case it helps to make you feel good about sponsoring this video, it was THIS video that made me decide to choose this same unit. My garage is being built in a few weeks and I'm ordering the 18k unit in a week or so to have it ready to put in as soon as I get the electric, insulation and drywall done.
this guy is the real deal he actually explains bit by bit . i love the way he explains well done .. some people just do videos just to show off how good they are . hopfully having someone to call them to instal the air con.... but this guy he really has what it takes to teach well done man keep it up with the great videos man
He did not run a vac.. I don't see how this install was correct.
@@mo_joe963 No need to run a vac on the Mr Cool installs. The refrigerant lines are already pressurized with refrigerant and oil.
@@mo_joe963 don't know if you've looked any further into this system, but the lines and units are already filled with refrigerant and once connected and opened, are ready to go as is. This is the diy version.
Best video ever ! Mr Cool folks should pay this guy.
Finally an install video that doesn't gloss over all the details.
Back when I worked as a Commercial / Industrial Electrician, We always left the wires long in the panels. We would go to the bottom of the panel and then back up to the breaker. That way we knew there would always be enough wire for future work or modifications.
Pretty cool to see a full installation of a split A/C unit with all of the little details. I'm pretty sure if somebody is gonna install one, this video will be extremely helpful.
no brother he didnt vacuum that coper tube.its a mandatory thing to do.but he didnt.it will effent his AC's performance!
@@khosruzzaman4207 You are lost my friend. The DIY kits are made specifically to NOT have to vacuum lines. Read up before you make careless comments.
@@itisaporsche yes you’re correct. The other comment doesn’t know what he’s talking about. These DYI kits come with fully charged lines so anyone can install without having to vacuum the lines.
Finally, someone installing one of these into cinderblock. Well done!
I've watched a ton of Mr. Cool minisplit install vids as I have purchased and installed a 27k 2 head setup. This is by far the best and most thorough video I've come across regarding the install process. Appreciate you taking the time here.
Hi, What was the breaker size you use for 27k 2 head? Thanks
Excellent video! Clear, detailed but still succinct, to the point with no peculiar aside comments, professional, no obnoxious music drowning out your speech, good video coverage etc. All good! WTG!
This is the best Mr Cool install guide I've seen and I've almost watched them all. No one but you shows how to wire everything.
This was by far the best DIY video that I needed to see. I'm so glad that you explained that part about your garage spaces from above and all the cracks that air could seep out. That's an awesome job.
This is BY FAR THE BEST video I've seen regarding installing a Mr Kool mini-split. Great job!!!!
no no, you have to vacuum the sistem
I've been looking at MrCool install videos for a long time, and yours is the best I've found! You're the only one who actually shows step by step what you actually did! The wiring info was particularly valuable to me, and let me do my install with more confidence. I will certainly recommend you to anyone I know who wants to put in a MrCool! Liked and subbed, thanks!!
Took me a lot longer than you to install mine but just got it done and you covered every step perfectly unlike most videos. Thanks!
Hey man, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for this video. My old man and I got my Mr Cool 2-Ton/24K installed in my garage easily with your video. Thanks again!
Your welcome!
Let me say, that this instructional video is one if not the best DIY Mr Cool video on RUclips, and from someone who is about to install one myself thanks for the time and effort you put into doing it.
Absolutely is. I've been watching them for a couple of months and was specifically looking for information on what sort of whip to get to install mine and this video shows how to make it with the wire I already have .
I was also going to have a friend run the connection from my breaker box to the other side of the house, but since this shows me specifically what to do, will likely also do that myself over the next week.
Pouring a concrete pad today or I'd likely be tempted to do it all today 😄
Great video.
I followed the directions of this video and it was 100% perfect! Great video to help you install your unit!!!
I installed one 2 months ago - it was a fantastic investment, not too difficult to install with an immense payoff.
Thanks for the video. Very clear instructions. I have one going in an metal building that is a garage with a little apartment. I have gone through 2 window units (in 20 years) and next is to install a mini split and make a window where the old heat pump (window unit) was. I am comfortable with electric and it looks straight forward to run the existing refrigerant. Thanks and have a great fall.
I've watched quite a few Mr Cool videos and this is the most complete by far.
Excellent video man. Much appreciated. Of all the mini split installs I have seen on RUclips yours was the first with concrete block construction like my house and you were the first I saw make the hole first and then set up the mounting plate for the head unit. Well done.
One of the cleanest installs I have seen to date. Great work!
This is the best video for the installation of these units. Appreciate your attention to detail and your clear explanation of each step.
Thanks for sharing your expertise and talent.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to make this video. All the detail you show makes it much less intimidating to someone like me who has a minimal background in HVAC.
I wish I had this mans confidence with electrical. This guy's amazing. Great video man wow you knocked it out the park for me Thank you so much for this.
Dude, this was the perfect video for me. Literally explained every single thing and answered every question I had. Thank you!
Very nice done. I will installing my 36K this weekend and watching this video clear a lots of ????’s. The best video. Thanks 👍🏾
Looks professional with the added details provided.
I have watched many MRCOOL DIY installations and I must say , this guy is very instructive, I’m going to hook up my 18 K MRCOOL just like he did, electrical and unit. My MRCOOL arrived today, 10-8-20
Good luck and thanks for the compliments!
I took heating and cooling back in the day. Never did anything with it though. When I was taught, you had to evacuate all the air out of the system before introducing the refrigerant. This was accomplished with a vacuum pump and a set of manifold gauges. Blows my mind how that doesn't have to be done here.
This company make precharged units, the line sets are pre-Vacuumed. THe lineset connectors have valves (like a schraeder) built in.
@@pablopicaro7649 As far as I can see the "precharged' lines are only made for their central air units. They say nothing regarding the Mini Splits.
@@btomas225 They do have pre vacuumed lines in certain kits. You pay a lot more for those however.
@@btomas225 all of their diy mini split units come with precharged lines, that's what makes them diy. Otherwise you would need an hvac certified person to come out and charge them.
@@keishabaskin2174 - You don't need an "certified HVAC person" to do DIY. You just need a vacuum pump. All Mini Splits come with a precharge of freon stored in the condenser.
All that's necessary to do is to pump the system down and then open the valve. Tons of videos here on YT, including my own to show you how...
ruclips.net/video/eBQpcXg86cE/видео.html
I have two accounts on YT, the above video is my primary channel.
These "Mr. Cool" systems are more than twice the cost of a non "DIY" mini split.
Go to Harbor Freight and buy a vacuum pump for around $150 and save literally hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on the install not to mention diversity in shopping for brands of mini splits without precharged lines as this brand, Mr. Cool, markets.
On my channel you will also see me DIY a full up 5-ton central ac system in my home.
Nicely done, as clean as the ones I do professionally. Cleaner than a lot I've seen done by other professionals.
Thanks for the compliments!
Hey Alex something to suggest, is while you were drilling your 1st hole inside, add a longer masonry pilot bit to whole saw setup so your outside pilot hole would have a better line up for the sleeve your installing... it may cost you some for bit but saves you some additional time and work buddy!
Your attention to detail is awesome, nice job on the electrical.
Thanks!
I literally could not have installed mine without this video thank you so much
Thank you very much Mattew for sharing the video of your installation of mr cool mini split a / c, impressive work very professional with all the details and the best is not necessary to make an vaccum in the system or add extra freon because it comes exactly with the load of freon from the factory to the distance of the installation kit, only if you require more distance of tube would be necessary to add freon.
You made a good video it covers most of the issues...and one can see that making a hole through concrete or else is often the biggest challenge.
Just bought the 12000 btu unit from Mr Cool.
You answered all my questions about the electric hookups however I am still
going to get my electrician to run everything to the disconnect box for me! I'll take it from there. I am also using it for my garage shop. Looking forward to being nice and cool for a change during the summer here in Florida! Maybe now I can finally work thru the year without sweating to death!
Elyse, how's it working out for you? I live in Ocala and my shed is an oven in the summer! I've been thinking of a split system for it. Thanks.

Amazing video. You REALLY explained the entire process clearly and explained your reasoning concisely.
You got the right idea using a cheaper hole saw to do it,it’s a small price to pay for a one time use.I did the same thing on my installation, unfortunately you didn’t run in to a hollow section, but hey,it is what it is and worked around it.I enjoyed the video, brought back memories on my installation.
Absolutely one of the best install videos I have seen. great job.
I installed a 24k heat pump mr cool myself a couple of years ago in my house. I do like how quite it is, the indoor unit will get nasty after a couple years. I recommend placing the indoor unit where you can get to it for cleaning. You did a great job!
Thanks for the tip and compliment!
Great video and nice install job. I installed 2 of these types of units in my house and do awesome for heating and cooling. I noticed in your sub panel that you have your main ground on the left side on a single lug by itself. It should have a ring of green tape on it signifying its a ground wire. Most importantly it should be with the ground bar on the right side of the box. Also by most codes you should have a bare ground wire coming out of box from ground bar going outside to a ground rod between 6 and 10 feet into the ground. In any case I highly recommend you move the main ground over to the ground buss bar. Normally the grounds and whites share one or both sides of the main side buses. The one down in the right I believe is for the main earth grounding. Figured I would share that with you. Stay comfortable :-)
Thanks. My ground wire runs back to the main panel. My grounds and neutrals are bonded at the main panel, and unbonded at the sub. I got the wire for free so why not? I can add some green tape to the ground...I thought I did that somewhere because I bought some tape years ago for that project.
Dam professional work good job going to install one in my house for sure thanks
Thank you Matthew. Your video is very informational and easy to understand. Excellent job. I am subscribing.
thank you for the video, wanted to let you know that you have encouraged me to install it myself so i went an ordered the same unit
You have a very special home. The garden & chilidrens play area is wonderful.
Thank you!
I've watched several You-Tube videos on the Mr. Cool installations and I must say you have been the best so far. I'm almost convinced on the purchase. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the compliment!
Me too. He takes his time datz da difference from da other video dey rush thru
it
I would agree Gary!
This has been one of the most concise install videos for this unit. I have the 12K model and watching other videos didn't explain things as thoroughly as you have, even everyone's favorite, April Wilkerson's video seemed overly simplistic. While it is not hard, it is daunting. No one wants extra holes in their house and siding! Thank you!
Great video! Thanks. I will be helping a friend install that exact unit. You’re a Godsend.
I ordered the 18k unit and was trying to decide if I can mount the condenser on the wall but not annoy my neighbors with the sound. This video helped me decide that it should be fine because of how quiet it is. Thanks!
Outside unit is very quiet, can't even hear it.
Nice job man, getting ready to put one on my neighbors.thanks for sharing this in depth and great instruction guide.
Best video by far that I've seen of this type of install. Thank you!
Sht I red the comments first and everyone is saying what I wanted to.well.i felt like I was an apprentice in training watching this.you walked us thru problems along the way and how to tackle them.epic.thanks
One hell of a job ! Great work
Great video! I watched a lot of these before installing my own Mr. Cool and yours is the best I've seen. The step-by-step is very clear and you don't skip any steps in the video. Thanks a lot, and my Mr. Cool is up and running largely thanks to this video.
Awesome. The other day it was 90° and humid outside. I had it 72° in the garage and my feet were cold! You'll love the unit.
Awesome, mine is on order now. Once I have AC I don’t think my wife will ever see me in the main house.
Nice job. Clean and done the way it should be. Start to finish.
Thanks a lot, helped me a bit with the electrical. Most of the other videos aren't super clear on the breaker installation, etc.
This video is remarkably well done and executed. Thank you for the very professional job of demonstrating an install for the DIYer! My 12BTU shows up in a couple days. I'm ready...
Thank you!
Did you install it and how easy was it. How long it took
Thanks for making this video. I've been thinking about a Mini Split system for a while and it was nice to see a real installation.
Matthew is great! Mr. Cool should be paying him for walking buyers through the install process! GREAT VIDEO!
The instructions for installing the DIY Mr. Cool unit are good--far better than most--except they to not tell you how to wire the unit to your breaker. Matthew does, taking the guess work out of it.
I like this video u really went step by step… Now I have an clear idea of how to install the unit and what is required 👍🏾
Very nice! I also have a Motorcycle RUclips Channel. I live in Florida, so you can imagine how hot it gets in my Garage. I’ve tried filming at night to make it a little easier, with no success. It makes filming miserable lol. I finally made the decision to buy one of these! Can’t wait to get it installed. Thank you for making the video, I know how much time it takes to make one of these.
How did it go?!
@@LDBaha went awesome! And couldn’t be more pleased. Just added insulation on the garage doors, and that made a huge difference.
Thank you for posting. Looks awesome.
Awesome, thanx for sharing. I'll be installing a 9K BTU System in a She Shed I built for Wife & Daughter.
She shed? Nice!
Excellent install vid. Thanks very much
I did the 2-3 ton universal air handler (not the mini split) an bent my line set by hand and broke it first try, I am very mechanically inclined and I would suggest just having a pro do a flared line set install and don’t worry about it. If your bending the line set by hand with the insulation covering the lines then you won’t be able to see if it kinks. Also the line sets have a steel spring wrapping the lines and where exposed this “spring” started rusting badly in the first few months. I don’t think the rust will affect the copper but it’s ugly as can be and bugs me.
That all said the system runs GREAT and is very strong. I highly recommend mr cool
Amazingly detailed, fantastic video!
Great Job Alex, I’ll be doin something Similar to a Tuff Shed from HD, purchased. Dual Zone Senville, will record like you did to show the process, Thanks again for the DIY! Best Regards

Excellent video of installation of split system .
Thank you for posting this video!
Exactly what Info I needed. TY
Great video and clean install.
Thank you for your video. Just used it to install a 18k btu mr cool. Super easy!
Did you have to vacuum the pipes before filling with coolant gas?
@@woodsmic Not in the DIY models... The lines come pre-vacuumed and pre-charged, with a valve that opens when you connect them.
Matthew, fantastic video, thanks.
You’re a such a stud! My buddy just quoted me $2300 with me doing the electrical. Mmm Mmm, I don’t think so. Again, I will fall victim to my abilities. Abilities that just got enhanced by you and this awesome video. I used some or most of your ideas on my blasting cabinet a few years ago and now you’re teaching me how to install a mini split. Funny side note is you talk exactly like my neighbor. He came from Illinois originally, but he’s a Northern Minnesotan now.
LOL awesome! Thanks for the compliments!
8.15.21 Nice video. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
Nice job very professional looking
You have the best video. Thank you!
Explaind very well.good job
Great video.. exactly what I need.
Joel, I had a Mitsubishi mini split salesman come by today. Nice fella. He wants 13k to put in a 2 head system (2 Head+1 condenser). I swallowed hard. I can put two 12K systems into my duplex for less than 3k. What should i do? Smile. Thanks for your very detailed explanation. It was very well done. Thanks for sharing. See you fix bikes. I had a Hayabusa that i rode for 10 years. Bought it for 12 K and put another 15K into it....you know the drill....carbon fiber wheels, single sided titanium race pipe, race struts fore and aft, custom bass ass paint job....on and on...upgraded brakes...sold it for 7K....us men are nutts.
Never got to ride a busa, would love to take one out one day.
i like the ways you explain whole working system Thank you.
Good looking install. Nice work.
I had to drill through a thick cement wall too. I drilled a pilot hole with a long bit angled slightly down for the drain. I then drilled from the inside then the outside with a carbide hole saw. Still took me about 20-30 minutes for each side. I didn't have a hammer drill, just a 1/2 drill.
I wish I had painted the lineset covers when I installed them. The PVC got very yellow so I had to pull them back off and paint them. We did a lot of similar things on the install. I put my outdoor unit on a pad however. You did a really good job. I'm rethinking my install now.
Good idea. If I had a long bit I would have done the same.
@@HTMR I thought ahead for a change. I just didn't think to paint the coverset. I also wish I had used metal conduit for the outside run. I used the liquidtight.
I make water and sewer taps on mains and we used a borsch hammer drill for years to chisel through 8 inches of concrete for the 4 inch. It was a hammer drill/regular drill combo with the large bit. Basically drilled most of the holes out, then hammer drilled the shape for the hole and usually hit a steel cable they use to form manholes up with. Until recently we bought a core bit that 12 inches long and 4 inches in diameter. It’s so good it goes through the steel with no issue. But the drill is $3600 and the core bit is $700 so we take care of them lol.
Excellent video thank you taking the time.
really great guide
1st: People need to stop asking the same question. The DIY units come with pre-vaccumed/charged lines. Maybe OP should pin this as first comment. 2nd: This video is better than the MFG's video. 3rd: I feel dumb because I did not think of painting the line housing to match my house! Brilliant. My 36k unit will arrive any day now and this video was a blessing. Just like chickens!
wow i loved your video i had never seen a core drill bit they are very expensive but really cool i love minisplits
