I like when you include errors in the video, it does a couple things, it shows 'real life' that you may experience the same thing, but then it also reminds us that you're human, too. 🙂
Great tutorial as always Quin, And yes I personally like seeing the problems or errors left in as they happen to us all and seeing you work them out in real time helps us out. I hope you are all well 👍🏻
What a lifesaver you are. I was just asked yesterday to create a light display with 500 plus led's for conference booth. I was was going to use my portable hotspot to run it but with your direction you helped use another path. Thankssssssd.
Arrrgggg! I literally just finished editing a video for next week that includes a short section on using WLED without WIFI (via the WLED AP). Naturally, your method is better in many cases, so I now have to shoot and edit in a new section to reference your method and video! Thanks a lot... I thought I was done! (Seriously, thanks for the alternate method... it is a better way to approach it and maintain Internet/cellular connectivity with your phone).
Hahaha, I know the feeling man, I know the feeling! Would be awesome if you could include a pointer to my video, much appreciated! Love watching your videos too, glad there is room for lots of approaches and ideas! :D
Awesome video, as there's far more misinformation than real out there about how to use WLED, as you say, "on the road". I've started teaching a class at my Makerspace about WLED basics, so will definitely be testing this out to have ready for Q&A! In terms of errors showing up in a tutorial... so long as they're limited, that's good. Livestreams are fair game for half an hour of prodding and poking. What was in this was perfect.
Hahaha, yeah I can imagine that being problematic otherwise. Get one of the remotes, control day to day with that and then when you one to change settings and such, enable hotspot and boom, easy going! :D
Exactlly as I will do it in my car lowglow project. With iPhone, you cannot share through wifi and also use it to setup WLED to the iPhone hotspot, you need an additional device. Thanks for the amazing video.
Please show things not working. That way we can see where common failure points are and know we can work around them or a simple retry fixes the issue.
Nice one, will try it out and use it for our 5 wled matrix carnaval costumes, sync all to the equalizer effects with auto gain for sound sentive to the music for all bars we visit😅😊
I like the wifi hotspot method. It would be cool to also have bluetooth as an option, especially if you're using a powerbank as bluetooth is significantly less power hungry than wifi.
Yes, I've been spamming the WLED Reddit group about this for a couple of weeks now. I eventually ended up doing this on my own. But ran into some problems specifically with programming, LED configuration and saving presets. I think I have got it figured out now!
This is excellent! I'm building some custom LED whips for my off road toys, and wanting to use wled to control them. My tablet that I use while out has a cellular connection and the ability to hot spot. It'll be pretty sweet to be able to control all my mobile LED's through the tablet!
great video. And to the the question leave issues in or fully scripted? I would leave in issues, makes it more real life scenarios we all may experience. Keep up the excellent works! Geweldig om van te leren 👌
Exactly what i needed. Had this problem in my head after installing btf with remote. Which apparently i need a gateway to even use its app? Im hoping i can just connect the btf controller to wled through hotspot without gateway.
Juist als er live foutjes te zien zijn geeft het een vorm van vertrouwen als het daarna weer goed gaat. Especially when mistakes are visible live, it gives a form of confidence when things go well again afterwards.
Do you know how well this works when using audio/sound reactive? I'm just wondering if there's latency between the main controller and the synced ones when they're reacting to sound. I'm guessing it uses the mic from the main controller, then sends the patterns to the synced ones.
Just answered my own question... This is in fact a different app called WLED Native. I tried it, but it seems to be a bit slower/more buggy than the regular WLED app.
Would this same process also work with the Dig Octa? I’m currently planning out the best way to completely wrap my Toyota Tacoma with pixels for next years holiday season.
Great tip about the hot spot Once question - if I may be so bold - the reconnect is indeed pretty snappy. Yet my devices do not connect easily, but these are ESP8266 (and you use ESP32 I believe) and would that explain the difference? ESP32 boards do a better job at reconnecting?
Poh, I really don't use ESP8266 anymore so I can't really tell you. On my ESP32 (mainly tested with my own custom boards) it performs like in the video, even after a day or so. It might also be possible it's the mix with your phone or something like that.
I like the errors so I know I am not the only one that it happens to. also I setup the Wizmote remote you showed and I was wandering if there is a way to controll more than 4 presets? like maybe another button combination press right now I can only change presets 1,2,3,4 and the only thing the sleep button does is dim the lights and you can't go bright again unless you choose a preset again. can the sleep button be reprogrammed to do something else?
Yes you can actually use API codes inside of a preset to for instance cycle through multiple (other) presets! Change color palate per press from a few selected, etc.. Would it be interesting to make a video about that?
Yes I would like to see that done in a video. I am always wanting to learn ways to use products beyond there default use. I am putting leds around my screen porch roofline with the Dig quad and was glad to see a remote that my wife could use to operate them. @@IntermitTech
I ordered a wizmode after your last video, but also order another device, hard to determine if devices have their own mac address, but will give it a try.. Miboxer B8 Wireless 2.4GHz 8-Zone RGB+CCT Wall Mounted Smart RF Panel Remote Controller, for RGB+CCT WiFi LED Bulb,Downlight,Flood Light,Strip Controller
Would it be possible to turn off wifi (both connecting to and hotspot) to preserve battery? I'm creating a WLED matrix shirt and want to extend battery time without having a too bulky power bank. I'm thinking wired buttons for on/off and next preset/playlist. ESP32, battery and buttons will be located in hoodie's front pocket.
I'm confused! My app works fine in AP mode. I connect to the wireless AP created by the esp8266 running wled and the app instantly starts, I don't even need to open it, just pops up
This does not work for me.. got the remote after the last video, but as soon as i turn off the wifi router, the remote becomes unusable. Hardly any presses are registered. Also on discord trying to find out why?! Thanks anywayzz, great channel!!
In theory you can order them from Allnet (we've sent to India before) but you'd have to use DHL shipping which makes it quite costly. Sadly I don't have a better way either.
@@IntermitTech Very Sad but can not do much. Is it possible to ship in Germany to a Friend without any additional charges. I can request him to get it for me when he is coming back

always nice to walk Through all obstacles to learn more

Perfect solution. So many forget the power of a hotspot. Thx

Yeah I have dig quad in my car, finally a video how to use it also outside parking lot!

With problems included. Always! Good job.

Oh! Sounds interesting! If you are on the Discord make sure to share some photo and videos!
I have never understood why the WLED mobile app doesn't allow control using the phones Bluetooth connection. That would be a great "on the go" option.

Yes having the issues fixed in the same video is better
Keep the problems in. Don't like when I try them and the problems show up and then what! Nice to see others get them.

Good stuff here! Is there a way the controllers can be it’s own AP again if the Hotspot isn’t available / out of range?
A reboot would do it
Keep the problems in, more realistic than a "laundered" video!
Hi Quindor, you UI in WLED looks different than mine, and I like yours better. Is this a customization? How can I get the same look?
Just answered my own question... This is in fact a different app called WLED Native. I tried it, but it seems to be a bit slower/more buggy than the regular WLED app.

Oke, thanks for reply. I think if I really want to have an aswer I need to switch to 32. Which I should be doing anyway 🙂@@IntermitTech

Is that one also ESP-now based? If so, transmit codes would still need to be added to WLED but that isn't the hard. Do you know if it is?

Poh that's a good question, I you can enable WiFi powersave mode in WLED at least but I'm not sure you can actually full turn the wireless chip off.
maybe time to upgrade the intro sound LOL, that's ancient
Is there a chance that the esp32's IP can change without us wanting it since it is not static?
100% include “failures”!

Подскажите, можно как то в wled создать картинку для вращающейся pixel led. Pixel poi. Спасибо.
I use hotspot from my phone for home wifi. my led's are on a 12solar system.
Very nice!!
Can you use the remote with a dig quad as well on the latest beta?
Absolutely, all of the current Dig controllers including the dig2go are compatible!
Hola, soy Antonio Recio. Soy mayorista, no limpio pescado.😂
thats a good way to use it in the car.
Please keep the problems (and therefore the troubleshooting) in the videos!!
So if I install the LEDs in the bed of a truck I could use the remote to change the effects with the presets without the hot spot?
Yes, that's correct! You can use the hotspot to configure everything when you need to and when not just use the remote to control it daily.
This does not work for me.. got the remote after the last video, but as soon as i turn off the wifi router, the remote becomes unusable. Hardly any presses are registered. Also on discord trying to find out why?! Thanks anywayzz, great channel!!
Reasonable way to do it - use wifi as client, instead of server, but I still vote bluetooth/BLE, but probably wled can't do it yet
TKS!!!
I love your Dig2go but getting them in India is not easy. I would have loved to get them. But sad we dont have a way to get them in india
